  • Water extracts from spent mushroom substrate (SMSE)of edible mushrooms, Pleurotus eryngii, Hericium erinaceus and Lentinula edodes promoted growth of pepper seedling. Mycellial growth rate of Phythopthora capsici and Fusarium oxysporum was dramatically inhibited by 100% and 70% on PDA added with SMSE of H. erinaceus. SMSEs from H. erinaceus, P. eryngii, and L. edodes effectively reduced the disease severity of Phytophthora blight of pepper caused by Phytophthora capsici to 75%, 10% and 35%, respectively. These results suggested that SMSE from the mushrooms have dual effects that suppress phythopthora blight disease and promote plant growth of pepper.

  • Shored Mechanically Stabilized Earth (SMSE) walls are types of soil retaining structures that increase soil stability under static and dynamic loads. The damage caused by an earthquake can be determined by evaluating the probabilistic seismic response of SMSE walls. This study aimed to assess the seismic performance of SMSE walls and provide fragility curves for evaluating failure levels. The generated fragility curves can help to improve the seismic performance of these walls through assessing and controlling variables like backfill surface settlement, lateral deformation of facing, and permanent relocation of the wall. A parametric study was performed based on a non-linear elastoplastic constitutive model known as the hardening soil model with small-strain stiffness, HSsmall. The analyses were conducted using PLAXIS 2D, a Finite Element Method (FEM) program, under plane-strain conditions to study the effect of the number of geogrid layers and the axial stiffness of geogrids on the performance of SMSE walls. In this study, three areas of damage (minor, moderate, and severe) were observed and, in all cases, the wall has not completely entered the stage of destruction. For the base model (Model A), at the highest ground acceleration coefficient (1 g), in the moderate damage state, the fragility probability was 76%. These values were 62%, and 54%, respectively, by increasing the number of geogrids (Model B) and increasing the geogrid stiffness (Model C). Meanwhile, the fragility values were 99%, 98%, and 97%, respectively in the case of minor damage. Notably, the probability of complete destruction was zero percent in all models.

  • Water extract from spent mushroom substrates (SMS) of Pleurotus eryngii was utilized in decolorization of eight synthetic dyes and wastewater from a textile factory. High laccase activity was detected in the extract of P. eryngii (SMSE). The SMSE showed that decolorization rate was 34~93% after 24 h incubation without any mediator on eight dyes including Rit-blue and Rit-red used in fiber dyeing. Dye decolorization rate more than 90% was observed on bromophenol blue and remazol brilliant blue R (RBBR). Dye in textile wastewater was decolorized at room temperature after three days by addition of P. eryngii SMSE. The results suggest that biological decolorization of dyes using the P. eryngii SMSE can be used as environmental friendly materials.

  • In this paper, we propose a joint base station(BS) and relay precoders design in multi-relay aided multi-user all-multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) system. The design criterion is to minimize user sum mean square error(SMSE) with relay sum power constraint(RSPC) where only local channel state information(CSI)s are available at relays. Local CSI at a relay is defined as the CSI of the channel which the relay itself accesses, out of among all the 1st hop and the 2nd hop channel in the system. With BS precoder structure which is concatenated with block diagonalization(BD) precoder, each relay can determine its own precoder using only local CSI. Proposed scheme is based on sequential iteration of two stages; stage 1 determines BS precoder and relay precoders jointly with SMSE duality, and stage 2 determines user receivers. Proposed scheme can be demonstrated theoretically to be always converge. We verify that proposed scheme outperforms simple amplify-and-forward(SAF), MMSE relay, and proposed schemes in [1] in terms of both SMSE and sum-rate performances.

  • The Mn-doped copper nitride ($Cu_3N$) films with Mn concentration of 2.0 at. % have high crystallinity and uniform surface morphology. We found that the as-synthesized Mn-doped $Cu_3N$ films show suitable optical absorption in the visible region and the band gap is ~1.48 eV. A simple photodetector based on Mn doped $Cu_3N$ films was firstly fabricated via magnetron sputtering method. The fabricated device with doping of Mn demonstrated high photocurrent response and fast response shorter than 0.1 s both for rise and decay time superior to the pure $Cu_3N$. Furthermore, the energy levels of Mn-doped Cu3N matched well with ITO and Ag electrode. The excellent photoelectric properties reflect a good balance between sensitivities and response rate. Our investigation reveals the excellent potential of Mn-doped $Cu_3N$ films for application of photodetectors.

  • We propose methods of linear transceiver design for two different power constraints, sum relay power constraint and per relay power constraint, which determine signal processing matrices such as base station (BS) transmitter, relay precoders and user receivers to minimize sum mean square error (SMSE) for multi-relay multi-user (MRMU) networks. However, since the formulated problem is non-convex one which is hard to be solved, we suboptimally solve the problems by defining convex subproblems with some fixed variables. We adopt iterative sequential designs of which each iteration stage corresponds to each subproblem. Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) theorem and SMSE duality are employed as specific methods to solve subproblems. The numerical results verify that the proposed methods provide comparable performance to that of a full relay cooperation bound (FRCB) method while outperforming the simple amplify-and-forward (SAF) and minimum mean square error (MMSE) relaying in terms of not only SMSE, but also the sum rate.

  • In this paper, we propose an iterative transceiver design in a multi-relay multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. The design criterion is to minimize sum mean squared error (SMSE) under relay sum power constraint (RSPC) where only local channel state information (CSI)s are available at relays. Local CSI at a relay is defined as the CSI of the channel between BS and the relay in the $1^{st}$ hop link, and the CSI of the channel between the relay and all users in the $2^{nd}$ hop link. Exploiting BS transmitter structure which is concatenated with block diagonalization (BD) precoder, each relay's precoder can be determined using local CSI at the relay. The proposed scheme is based on sequential iteration of two stages; stage 1 determines BS transmitter and relay precoders jointly with SMSE duality, and stage 2 determines user receivers. We verify that the proposed scheme outperforms simple amplify-and-forward (SAF), minimum mean squared error (MMSE) relay, and an existing good scheme of [13] in terms of both SMSE and sum-rate performances.

  • Sol-gel processing of $BaTiO_3$ ceramics doped with La(0.01~1.00 at.%) were prepared from metal barium, titanium n-butoxide and lanthanum iso-propoxide. Characterization of the sol-gel-derived powder using XRD, SEM is also reported. The obtained results showed that insulator to semiconductor transition for highly donor-doped barium titanate was closely related to the incorporation of donor into the grains and to the resultant grain size, which were significantly affected by the sinterability of $BaTiO_3$ powders and sintering conditions used.
