The Experimental Study on the Leakage of Automatic Pressure Differential·Overpressure Control Dampers by Increasing the Number of Damper Operation (자동차압·과압조절형댐퍼의 개폐동작횟수 증가에 따른 누설량 실험 연구)

  • Recently, Since buildings are bigger and higher, the damage of human life can be increased by fire flame and smoke in fire. Smoke control system is necessary to decrease this damage. Therefore, Air supply pressurization smoke control system is applied to vestibule of escape stairway. NFSC requires pressure differential of above 40 Pa, but pressure differential is excessively overpressure in the field. It is known that the cause of this over pressure differential is much leakage of damper. Over pressure differential can bad effect to escaper by pressurizing the door. Analyze the real leakage of damper by increasing the number of dampers operation for identifying this problems. The result of testing, the leakage has difference between new dampers and increased the number of operation dampers. As the static preassure increase, the leakage difference increase. Comparison with preceding study, this result has similar linear tendency.

  • There has been increased amount of atmospheric pollutants including NOx and SOx which cause acid rain and photochemical smog as a result of increased use of fossil fuels. In order to reduce the amount of pollutants produced by fossil fuel, wet scrubber system is introduced in this experiment. Wet scrubber system is applied to a diesel engine (3,298 cc) and the amount of smoke is measured before and after the application in terms of aspect ratio, filling rate, and flow rate. The result showed a lot of smoke reduction when wet scrubber system was applied, and also the aspect ratios and water spray flow rate were the important factors to improve smoke reduction.

Over pressure differential can bad effect to escaper by pressurizing the door. Analyze the real leakage of damper by testing for identifying this problems. The result of testing, leakage is $0.090m^3/s{\sim}0.154m^3/s$. It is necessary to limit the leakage of dampers for safe of escapers.

A Study on Combustion Characteristics in each Coating Thickness of Fire Retardant Paints (난연도료의 도포 두께별 연소특성에 관한 연구)

  • This experimental study shows the combustion characteristics for each coating thickness of water and oil paint which are used as fire retardant paints that prevent fire propagation through cables in underground culverts and trays. To evaluate combustion characteristics, smoke density(ASTM E 662) and Limited Oxygen Index(ASTM D 2863) experiment method was used. As the results of this study, the combustion characteristics of fire retardant paints produced the following : (a) The molt suitable coating thickness of fire retardant paint was 1.5∼2.0 mm in water paint and 0.2 mm in oil paint. (b) Flaming method in experiments of smoke density were found to be higher than Non-flaming method. (c) Water paint has the fire retardant effect and characteristics better than oil paint in measurement results of smoke density and oxygen index. (d) The oxygen index of water and oil fire retardant was able to know that it was satisfied a standard (30 or above).

Differences in Environmental Tobacco Smoke Exposure between Self-reporting and Cotinine Test: The Application of Biomarkers (자가응답과 코티닌 측정에 의한 간접흡연 노출률 비교: 생체지표 활용의 정책적 필요성)

  • Background: In monitoring exposure to environmental smoke (ETS), biomarkers can overcome the subjectivity and inaccuracy of self-reporting measurements, and have the advantage of reflecting ETS exposure in all places. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of ETS exposure measurement using biomarkers such as urine cotinine. Methods: This study used the Korea National Health and Nutrition Survey data from 2009 to 2018. A total of 28,574 non-smokers with urine cotinine data were selected for the study. The cotinine concentration and ETS exposure rate using urine cotinine was estimated and then compared with the self-reporting measurements. The degree of agreement among measurements of ETS exposure was confirmed. Results: As a result of measuring ETS exposure with urine cotinine, 23,594 (83.8%) out of 28,574 subjects were classified as to exposure groups. This estimate differs significantly from measurements made by self-reporting. In addition, the average concentration of cotinine in non-smokers has decreased to a 10th level over the past 10 years. Based on the biomarker, the sensitivity of the self-reporting was 8.5%-29.0%, the specificity was 16.4%-19.5%, and the kappa value was 2.0%-5.8%. Conclusion: The findings of our study show that self-reporting measurement does not well reflect the extent to which non-smoker's exposure to smoking materials. Whereas cotinine concentration has decreased significantly over the past 10 years, the ETS exposure rate has not reduced. It strongly suggests the need for intervention in the group of non-smokers exposed to low concentrations of smoke. Therefore, an assessment using biomarkers such as cotinine-based measurement should be made in the Health Plan 2030.

A Study on the Application of a Exhaust Engine in Basement Karaoke Fires (지하 노래방 화재 시 배연차의 활용에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of a exhaust engine in a basement karaoke fire. Exhaust engine was used as ventilation equipment in the experiment. Experiment was carried out in a basement karaoke for redevelopment. Temperature distribution and smoke concentration were evaluated according to the operation of an exhaust engine. Temperatures were decreased below $50^{\circ}C$ at the corridor due to the operation of the exhaust engine. Visibility was also improved.

  • This paper investigated the combustion properties of the Pinus rigida, Castanea sativa, and Zelkova serrata which are grown in Korea using the cone calorimeter. The heat release rate and smoke production for these species were measured. With respect to an increase of retardant properties attributed to char formation, Zelkova serrata showed good properties compared with that of Pinus rigida and Castanea sativa. The Castanea sativa has high $CO_{peak}$ Yield and high $CO/CO_2$ Yield compared with that of Pinus rigida and Zelkova serrata.

  • 흡연 당사자의 직접흡연이 이와 관련한 발병률과 사망률의 주요 원인이 되어 왔다는 것은 여러 연구조사자료에 보고되어 왔다. 그러나 최근 들어 담배연기에 대한 비흡연자의 비자의적인 노출 즉, 환경담배연기(Environmental Tobacco Smoke, 이하 ETS)로 인한 보건학적 위해성에 대한 논란이 제기되면서 간접흡연은 새로운 사회문제로 대두되고 있다(Surgeon General, 1986). 1986년에 미국 National Research Council은 미국 내에서 연간 3000명에 달하는 폐암의 발생이 ETS에 대한 노출에서 기인한다고 발표한 바 있으며(NRC, 1986), 이를 근거로 1990년대 초에 미국 EPA와 NIOSH에서는 세계최초로 ETS를 인체발암성물질로 규정한 바 있다(NIOSH, 1991; USEPA, 1992).   • 연소가스분석을 통한 건축물 마감재료의 연소독성평가를 위해 독성지수 계산법(NES 713)을 활용하여 독성평가를 수행하였다. 가연성 건축재료(우레탄, 고무바닥재)를 대상으로 독성가스를 측정하기 위해 ISO19702에서 규정하는 FT-IR(퓨리에변환적외선분광분석기)을 이용하였으며, 화재 모델은 ISO5659의 Smoke Density Chamber를 사용하였다. 독성지수를 산정하기 위해 Cf(사람이 30분간 노출시에 사망할 수 있는 가스의 농도)를 기준으로 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 연소가스 독성지수 연구의 기초연구자료로 활용하고자 한다.

Experimental Study on the Designed Ventilation System Performance at Rescue Station in Tunnel Fire (터널 내 화재발생시 구난역 내의 설계된 환기 시스템 성능에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, the l/35 reduced-scale model experiment were conducted to investigate designed ventilation system performance at rescue station in tunnel fire. A model tunnel with 2 mm thick of steel, 10 m long, 0.19 m high and 0.26m was made by using Froude number scaling law. The cross-passages installing escape door at the center. were connected between accident tunnel and rescue tunnel. The n-heptane pool fire, $4cm\times4cm$, with heat release rate 698.97W were used as fire source. The fire source was located in the center and portal of accident tunnel as Worst case.. An operating ventilation system extracted smoke amount of 0.015 cms. The smoke temperature and carbon monoxide. concentration in cross-passage were measured to verify designed ventilation system. The results showed that, in center fire case without ventilation in accident tunnel, smoke did not propagated to rescue station. In portal tire case, smoke spreaded to rescue station without ventilation. But smoke did not propagated to rescue station with designed ventilation.
