Proposed is a hybrid randomizing function using two asymptotically optimal randomizing functions: Elias function and Peres function. Randomizing function is an mathematical abstraction of producing a uniform random bits from a source of randomness with bias. It is known that the output rate of Elias function and Peres function approaches to the information-theoretic upper bound. Especially, for each fixed input length, Elias function is optimal. However, its computation is relatively complicated and depends on input lengths. On the contrary, Peres function is defined by a simple recursion. So its computation is much simpler, uniform over the input lengths, and runs on a small footprint. In view of this tradeoff between computational complexity and output efficiency, we propose a hybrid randomizing function that has strengths of the two randomizing functions and analyze it.

This paper presents a method to fabricate freestanding structures by (100) silicon anisotropic etching and nickel electroless plating. The electroless plating process is simpler than the electroplating, and provides good coating uniformity and improved mechanical properties. Furthermore, the (100) silicon anisotropic etching in KOH solution with being aligned to <100> direction provides vertical (100) sidewalls on etched (100) surface. In this paper, the effects of the nickel electroless plating condition on the properties of electroless plated metal structures are investigated to apply fabrication of micro structures and then various micro structures are fabricated by nickel electroless plating. And then, the structures are released by silicon anisotropic etching in KOH solution with a large gap between the structure and the substrate. The fabricated cantilever structures are $210\mum$. wide, $5\mum$. thick and $15\mum$. over the silicon substrate, and the comb structure has the comb electrodes which are $4\mum$. wide and $4.3\mum$. thick separated by$1\mum$. It is released by silicon anisotropic etching in KOH solution. The gap between the structure and the substrate is $2.5\mum$.

With the recent series of damage caused by earthquakes in Korea, such as Gyeongju and Pohang, we know that Korea is no longer a safe zone for earthquakes and that we need to be prepared for them. In addition, bridges built prior to the introduction of seismic design concepts remain without adequate seismic reinforcement measures, and earthquake reinforcement should be performed efficiently considering economic and structural safety. Preliminary assessment of seismic performance of existing bridges is divided into four seismic groups, taking into account seismicity, vulnerability and Impact, considering the magnitude of the existing bridge's seismic, and prioritization for further evaluation of seismic performance. In this study, unlike the existing anti-seismic reinforcement priority method, scores are calculated based on the seismic design criteria applied to bridges, importance coefficient of the bridge including the zone coefficient and the Importance, vulnerability index of the bridge including the soil condition and the elapsed years, detail coefficient of the bridge including the superstructure form, the span length, the width, the height, the design load, and the daily traffic volume. The calculated score items will be weighted and grouped according to the results. Using this, a simpler and more efficient algorithm was proposed to determine the priority of seismic reinforcement on a bridge.
Because most metricsin the literatures are described by a natural language, they can be interpreted in an ambigous manner. To cope with this problem, there are some researches to express based on Object Constraint Language(OCL). Because OCL has been proposed to describe structural constraintsfor Unified Modeling Language(UML) diagrams, it is difficult and awkward. In this paper, we propose Metric Description Language(MDL) which is a high level language to describe metrics. MDL supports a modular description of complex metrics, aggregation function, and automatic navigation between entities. Moreover, we develop MetriUs for describing metrics using MDL and supporting an automated computation for UML diagrams. In a case study, we have described a variety of existing metrics using MDL and found that MDL contributes to producing simpler expression of metrics than OCL.
We study existence of polynomial integrating factors and solutions F(x, y)=c of first order nonlinear differential equations. We characterize the homogeneous case, and give algorithms for finding existence of and a basis for polynomial solutions of linear difference and differential equations and rational solutions or linear differential equations with polynomial coefficients. We relate singularities to nature of the solution. Solution of differential equations in closed form to some degree might be called more an art than a science: The investigator can try a number of methods and for a number of classes of equations these methods always work. In particular integrating factors are tricky to find. An analogous but simpler situation exists for integrating inclosed form, where for instance there exists a criterion for when an exponential integral can be found in closed form. In this paper we make a beginning in several directions on these problems, for 2 variable ordinary differential equations. The case of exact differentials reduces immediately to quadrature. The next step is perhaps that of a polynomial integrating factor, our main study. Here we are able to provide necessary conditions based on related homogeneous equations which probably suffice to decide existence in most cases. As part of our investigations we provide complete algorithms for existence of and finding a basis for polynomial solutions of linear differential and difference equations with polynomial coefficients, also rational solutions for such differential equations. Our goal would be a method for decidability of whether any differential equation Mdx+Mdy=0 with polynomial M, N has algebraic solutions(or an undecidability proof). We reduce the question of all solutions algebraic to singularities but have not yet found a definite procedure to find their type. We begin with general results on the set of all polynomial solutions and integrating factors. Consider a differential equation Mdx+Ndy where M, N are nonreal polynomials in x, y with no common factor. When does there exist an integrating factor u which is (i) polynomial (ii) rational? In case (i) the solution F(x, y)=c will be a polynomial. We assume all functions here are complex analytic polynomial in some open set.
Detection of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri (Xac) on citrus fruits for exporting is usually made by bacteriophage test (BPT) to demonstrate the pathogen-free status. BPT has rather time-consuming and complicate procedures for dealing with massive samples to be inspected. In this study, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was applied to detect Xac on fruits, and compared with BPT. In ELISA, positive reactions occurred in the bacterial densities of $3\times10^5$ cells/ml or more. To detect the bacterial infection on citrus fruits with a density of lower than $3\times10^5$ cells/ml, the bacterial suspensions were mixed with fruit rinse water and incubated in broth medium. Ordinary peptone sucrose broth (PSB) was not a proper medium for increasing Xac density specifically enough to be detect by ELISA. On the other hand, modified PSB (MPSP) amended with Fe-EDTA (0.25 g/$\ell$) and 2.5% potato-dextrose broth sufficed to differentiate uninfected and infected citrus fruits by ELISA after 24 h incubation of the fruit rinse water. Using various citrus samples from infected and uninfected fields, efficiencies in detecting Xac on fruits were compared between ELISA and BPT. For infected fruits samples, ELISA detected Xac by 100%, while BPT by about 44%, indicating that the detection efficiency was improved by 23.5% by ELISA, compared to BPT. In addition, ELISA has simpler procedures for testing and is less time-consuming than BPT, suggesting that ELISA may be accurate and simple method to detect Xac on citrus fruits.

We used polymers of alternating cationic and anionic nature to build up shells on fiber surfaces, strengthen the worn-out fibers and improve paper properties made from such fibers. OCC and ONP pulps were either dipped or salted out in the cationic polyallylamine, polyacrylamide and starch solutions. After centrifugal drying, these were followed by treatments in anionic polyacrylic acid, poly-acrylamide, and starch solutions, respectively. The shell-enhanced fibers were formed into handsheets and their physical properties evaluated. The results show that building multiple shells on worn-out fiber surfaces can strengthen the fibers and paper. The simpler and more practical impregnation-centrifuging treatment provided the desired effects, whereas salting out the polymers produced somewhat superior fibers. The latter process, were impractical, however. The first pair of polymeric shells imparted marked strength improvement, whereas later layers had diminishing efficacies. Overall, the methods can improve fiber quality, attaining paper strength requirements without resorting to expensive measures. Alternate cationic polymer and filler powders were also deposited on fiber surface based on the micriparticle system in an anticipation of stiffness gains. Platy minerals, such as montmorillonite, bentonite, sericite, clay and talc were added following cationic PAM. After dewatering of polymer-pigment shelled fiber of one to 3 pairs of layers, handsheets either calendered or uncalendered were evaluated. The results indicate that regardless of calendaring, stiffness of the handsheets did not improve appreciably while certain other strength properties showed gains. We also attempted the novel starch gel filler addition method wherein tapioca starch and filers (PCC, sericite or clay) were mixed at high solids content of 50% and cooked until gelatinized. The filled handsheets were dried under various conditions and then tested for their properties. Improvements in strengths of modified filled paper were observed.
In the diagnosis of pulmonary diseases, auscultation technique is simpler than the other methods, and lung sounds can be used for predicting the types of pulmonary diseases as well as identifying patients with pulmonary diseases. Therefore, in this paper, we identify patients with pulmonary diseases and classify lung sounds according to their sound characteristics using various convolutional neural networks, and compare the classification performance of each neural network method. First, lung sounds over affected areas of the chest with pulmonary diseases are collected by using a single-channel lung sound recording device, and spectral features are extracted from the collected sounds in time domain and applied to each neural network. As classification methods, we use general, parallel, and residual convolutional neural network, and compare lung sound classification performance of each neural network through experiments.
In most framed structures the nonlinearities and the damages are localized, extending over a limited length of the structural member. In order to capture the details of the local damage, the segments of a member that have entered the nonlinear range may need to be analyzed using the three-dimensional element (3D) model whereas the rest of the member can be analyzed using the simpler one-dimensional (1D) element model with fewer degrees of freedom. An Element-Coupling model was proposed to couple the small scale solid 3D elements with the large scale 1D beam elements. The mixed dimensional coupling is performed imposing the kinematic coupling hypothesis of the 1D model on the interfaces of the 3D model. The analysis results are compared with test results of a reinforced concrete pipe column and a structure consisting of reinforced concrete columns and a steel space truss subjected to static and dynamic loading. This structure is a reduced scale model of a direct air-cooled condenser support platform built in a thermal power plant. The reduction scale for the column as well as for the structure was 1:8. The same structures are also analyzed using 3D solid elements for the entire structure to demonstrate the validity of the Element-Coupling model. A comparison of the accuracy and the computational effort indicates that by the proposed Element-Coupling method the accuracy is almost the same but the computational effort is significantly reduced.
Rolling shutter operation of CMOS cameras can be utilized in optical camera communications in order to transmit data from an LED to mobile devices such as smart-phones. From temporally modulated light, a spatial flicker pattern is obtained in the captured image, and this is used for signal recovery. Due to the degradation of rolling shutter images caused by light smear, motion blur, and focus blur, the conventional decoding schemes for rolling shutter cameras based on the pattern width for 'OFF' and 'ON' cannot guarantee robust communications performance for practical uses. Aside from conventional techniques, such as polynomial fitting, histogram equalization can be used for blurry light mitigation, but it requires additional computation abilities resulting in burdens on mobile devices. This paper proposes a transition-based decoding scheme for rolling shutter cameras in order to offer simple and robust data decoding in the presence of image degradation. Based on the designed synchronization pulse and modulated data symbols according to the LED dimming level, the decoding process is conducted by observing the transition patterns of two sequential symbol pulses. For this, the extended symbol pulse caused by consecutive symbol pulses with the same level determines whether the second pulse should be included for the next bit decoding or not. The proposed method simply identifies the transition patterns of sequential symbol pulses other than the pattern width of 'OFF' and 'ON' for data decoding, and thus, it is simpler and more accurate. Experimental results ensured that the transition-based decoding scheme is robust even in the presence of blurry lights in the captured image at various dimming levels
