This paper proposes a simple numerical method to simulate ductile failure behaviors. The method is based on finite element analysis with a simple damage theory. To validate the proposed method, simulated results are compared with experimental data. Despite its simplicity, the proposed method well predicts experimental results systematic analyses are also performed to investigate the effect of the element size.

Balanced half sample method is a simple variance estimation method for complex sampling designs. Since it is simple and flexible, it has been widely used in large scale sample surveys. However, the usual BHS method overestimate the true variance in without replacement sampling and two-stage cluster sampling. Focusing on this point , we proposed an unbiased BHS variance estimator in a stratified two-stage cluster sampling and then described an implementation method of the proposed estimator. Finally, partially BHS design is explained as a tool of reducing the number of replications of the proposed estimator.

The Weibull variate is commonly used as a lifetime distribution in reliability applications. Estimation of parameters is revisited in the two-parameter Weibull distribution. The method of product spacings, the method of quantile estimates and the method of least squares are applied to this distribution. A comparative study between a simple minded estimate, the maximum likelihood estimate, the product spacings estimate, the quantile estimate, the least squares estimate, and the adjusted least squares estimate is presented.

This paper shows the formulation of fast moving least square reproducing kernel method (FMLSRKM) which is a kind of meshfree methods. FMLSRKM has some advantages compared to conventional numerical techniques such as finite element method. For simple analysis on a rectangular waveguide, point collocation scheme is introduced and applied.

A simple method for real-time monitoring the molecular orientation in a polymeric film was suggested. This method was examined in the polarization holograms by two recording beams on a poly(malonic ester) containing disperse red 1. The spatial distributions of the photo-induced alignment were measured and analyzed at various polarization states of two recording beams. As the result, the directions of molecular alignments could be identified easily by our method.

In this paper, A new cost-effective and accurate input noise rejection method for High Speed Counter module of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is proposed. By using combination of simple additional logic circuit and the Timer Pulse function of general purpose MPU, Cost-effectiveness and improvement of accuracy of filtering function can be achieved. This proposed method is verified by simulation. This proposed method is much useful for simple industrial controller based on simple microprocessor because of simplicity, accuracy and low cost.

This paper proposes a simple current compensation method to improve the control performance of B4 inverters. Four-switch inverters so called B4 inverters employ only four switches. They have a split dc-link and one phase of three-phase motors is connected to the center-tap of split dc-link capacitors in B4 inverters. The voltage ripples in the center tap of the dc-link generate unbalanced three-phase voltages causing current ripples. To solve this problem, this paper presents a simple compensation method that adjusts switching times considering dc-link voltage ripples. The validity of the proposed method is verified by simulations and experiments carried out with a 1 HP induction machine.

Purpose: The inverted nipple presents many problems in both cosmetic and functional aspects. The histopathologic features of inverted nipple are that inverted nipple has less fibromuscular tissue than normal nipple, short lactiferous duct and dense fibrous tissue. Many papers have been reported for correction of the inverted nipple, however not many medical literatures has specifically described about traction method. Although traditional traction methods were using half of urine cup or lid of bottle, they were uncomfortable and incapable for wearing brassiere. Methods: We invented a simple and more natural method using a dome-shape plastic disposable lid of take-out cup. We applied new device for three patients after corrective surgery. Results: For long term follow up, all patients satisfied their postoperative status and they were comportable with the lids. Conclusion: This new method is very simple, comfortable, and effective method for traction. It also allows patients to wear the brassiere.

In this study a seismic retrofit scheme for a building structure was presented using steel plate slit dampers. The energy dissipation capacity of the slit damper used in the retrofit was verified by cyclic loading test. Genetic algorithm was applied to find out the optimum locations of the slit dampers satisfying the target displacement. The seismic retrofit of the model structure using the slit dampers was compared with the retrofit with enlarging shear walls. A simple damper distribution method was proposed using the capacity spectrum method along with the damper distribution pattern proportional to the inter-story drifts. The validity of the simple story-wise damper distribution procedure was verified by comparing the results of genetic algorithm. It was observed that the capacity-spectrum method combined with the simple damper distribution pattern leaded to satisfactory story-wise distribution of dampers compatible with the optimum solution obtained from genetic algorithm.
