In this paper, a design equation for the punching shear capacity of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) slabs is proposed based on the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) standard specifications. Addition of steel fibers into concrete improves mechanical behavior, ductility, and fatigue strength of concrete. Previous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of fiber reinforcement in improving the shear behavior of reinforced concrete slabs. In this study, twelve SFRC slabs using hooked-ends type steel fibers are tested with varying fiber dosage, slab thickness, steel reinforcement ratio, and compressive strength. Furthermore, test data conducted by earlier researchers are involved to verify the proposed design equation. The proposed design equation addresses the fiber pull-out strength and the critical shear perimeter changed by the fiber factor. Consequently, it is confirmed that the proposed design equation can predict the punching shear capacity of SFRC slabs with an applicable accuracy.

A series of experimental study are performed to evaluate the shear strength and friction properties of fiber-mixed soil as backfill material in reinforced earth wall. In order to evaluate the properties of shear strength the big-size direct shear tests are carried out and on the friction properties, the shear friction tests and the pull-out tests are performed. In the results, when the mixed ratio of the net type fiber is 0.2%, the reinforcement effect was better than the others. Also the reinforcement effect of the net type fiber was larger than that of the line type fiber.
OBJECTIVES : Bituminous materials, such as tack coat, are utilized between pavement layers for improving the bond strength in pavement construction sites. The standards regarding the application of bituminous material are not clearly presented in the Korean construction guideline without RS(C)-4. Hence, the objective of this study is to determine the optimum content of bituminous materials by analyzing interlayer shear strength (ISS) from the direct shear tester, which was developed in this research. The shear strength of tack coat was defined with the sort of bituminous materials. METHODS : The mixtures for the shear test were made using marshall mix design. The specimens were vertically and horizontally separated for the direct shear test. The separated specimens were bonded using bituminous material. The objectives of the experiment are to determine the performance of bond and shear properties resulting from slippage, rutting, shovel, and corrugation of asphalt pavements. A machine based on the Louisiana interlayer shear strength tester (LISST) of NCHRP Report-712 was developed to determine the ISS. The applied types of tack coat were RS(C)-4, AP-3, QRS-4, and BD-coat with contents of $0.3{\ell}/m^2$, $0.45{\ell}/m^2$, $0.6{\ell}/m^2$, and $0.8{\ell}/m^2$, respectively. RESULTS : Table 2 gives the results of the direct shear test using the developed shear machine. The BD-coat type indicated the highest average ISS value compared to the others. Between the surface and binder course, optimum tack coat application rates for AP-3, RS(C)-4, QRS-4, and BD-Coat were $0.6{\ell}/m^2$, $0.3{\ell}/m^2$, $0.6{\ell}/m^2$, and $0.45{\ell}/m^2$, respectively. These optimum contents were determined using the ISS value. CONCLUSIONS : The ISS values of AP-3, RS(C)-4, and QRS-4 showed similar tendencies when ISS increased in the range $0.3{\sim}0.6{\ell}/m^2$, while ISS decreased when the applied rate exceeded $0.6{\ell}/m^2$. Similarly, the highest ISS value of the BD-coat was observed when the applied rate was $0.45{\ell}/m^2$. However, shear strength was similar to the maximum value of ISS when the tack-coat application rate of BD-Coat exceeded $0.45{\ell}/m^2$.

Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) beams has greater shear strength than typical reinforced concrete beams due to the high tensile strength of steel fibers. In this research, an experiment has been conducted to investigate the shear behavior of SFRC beams, and especially, the portion of shear resistance by uncracked compressive concrete section has been measured. Based on the test results in this study and 87 test data collected from literature, the accuracy of the existing equations for the estimation of shear strength has been evaluated. The shear strength of SFRC beams increased as more steel fibers were mixed. However, it is considered that the most efficient amount of steel fiber for enhancement of shear strength would be between 1% and 2% in that the specimen with 0.5% of steel fibers were abruptly failed after inclined cracking, and that the specimen with 2.0% of steel fibers showed a relatively low efficiency in increasing shear strength. The portion of shear resistance by the uncracked compressive concrete section was measured to be greater than 21%, and the equation proposed by Oh et al. provided the best accuracy on the estimation of shear strength of SFRC beams among the approaches evaluated in this study.

This study targets SFRC hollow members with small depth under shear force and bending. To evaluate the effect of web width on shear strength of SFRC members, experiment and finite element analysis were conducted and compared with existing equations. The web width was planned to be 1/2 times and 2/3 times, and the shear span ratio was planned to be 1.5 times. In the shear test results, the maximum shear strength increased by 10.3 to 28.0% with the web width increased by 33%. When the overall depth of specimens was increased by 1.5 times, the shear strength of the specimen with a web width of 100mm was increased by 29.2%. On the other hand, specimen with the 150mm only increased by 11.3%. These results indicate that the smaller the web width, the greater the shear strength increase with the increase of depth. Also, the smaller the web width, the greater the contribution of steel fiber. It has been shown that the KCI code evaluates the shear strength of experiments as very safe side, and that the proposed formula of Shin et al. predicts the experimental strength relatively well. As the web width increases by 2, 3, and 6 times, the mean shear strength by FEA appears to be 1.18, 1.80, and 2.19 times respectively. This indicates that the shear strength does not increase in proportion to the increase in web width.
High-performance concrete (HPC) usually has higher paste and lower coarse aggregate volumes than normal concrete. The lower aggregate content of HPC can affect the shear capacity of concrete members due to the formation of smooth fractured surfaces and the subsequent development of weak interface shear transfer. Therefore, an experimental investigation was conducted to study the shear strength and cracking behavior of full-scale reinforced beams made with low-cement-content high-performance concrete (LcHPC) as well as conventional HPC. A total of fourteen flexural reinforced concrete (RC) beams without shear reinforcements were tested under a two-point load until shear failure occurred. The primary design variables included the cement content, the shear span to effective depth ratio (a/d), and the tensile steel ratio (${\rho}_w$). The results indicate that LcHPC beams show comparable behaviors in crack and ultimate shear strength as compared with conventional HPC beams. Overall, the shear strength of LcHPC beams was found to be larger than that of corresponding HPC beams, particularly for an a/d value of 1.5. In addition, the crack and ultimate shear strength increased as a/d decreased or ${\rho}_w$ increased for both LcHPC beams and HPC beams. This investigation established that LcHPC is recommendable for structural concrete applications.

Four series of reinforced concrete beams were tested to determine their shear cracking strengths and ultimate shear capacities. All beams were singly reinforced without shear reinforcement. The concrete strength was the prime variable which was varied from 247 to $708kg/cm^2$(8500 to 10000 psi). Within each series the shear span-to-depth ratio was varied from 2 to 5, while concrete strength was held constant. Test results indicate that the effect of concrete strength on shear capacities is varied as the shear span-to-depth ratio is changed. Furthermore, the current shear design provisions do not provide a consistency with respect to estimating shear capacities of reinforced concrete beams. By introducing the shear failure mode index, a new equation is proposed to predict ultimate shear strengths of reinforced concrete beams without web reinforcement.
A theoretical study was performed to investigate the behavioral chracteristics and shear strength of fiber reinforced concrete slender beams. In the fiber reinforced concrete beam, the shear force applied to a cross section of the beam was resisted by both compressive zone and tensile zone. The shear capacity of the compressive zone was defined addressing the interaction with the normal stresses developed by the flexural moment in the cross section. The shear capacity of the tensile zone was defined addressing the post-cracking tensile strength of fiber reinforced concrete. Since the magnitude and distribution of the normal stresses vary according to the flexural deformation of the beam, the shear capacity of the beam was defined as a function of the flexural deformation of the beam. The shear strength of the beam and the location of the critical section were determined at the intersection between the shear capacity and shear demand curves. The proposed method was developed as a unified shear design method which is applicable to conventional reinforced concrete as well as fiber reinforced concrete.

An analytical model for predicting the shear strength of prestressed concrete beams was developed, applying the previously proposed strain-based shear strength model. In flexure-compression member without shear reinforcement, compression zone of intact concrete primarily resist to the shear force rather than tension zone. The shear capacity of concrete at the compression zone was defined based on the material failure criteria. The shear capacity of the compression zone was evaluated along the inclined failure surface considering interaction with the normal stress. Since the distribution of normal stress varies due to the flexural deformation of member, the shear capacity was defined as a function of the flexural deformation. Finally, the shear strength was determined at the intersection of the shear capacity curve and the shear demand curve. As a result of the comparisons to prior test data, the proposed model accurately predicted the shear strength of specimens.
The change of microstructures in the base metal during transient liquid phase bonding process of directionally Ni base superalloy, GID-111 was investigated. Bonds were fabricated using a series of holding times(0~7.2ks) at three different temperatures. The flip chip bonding utilizing self-aligning characteristic of solder becomes mandatory to meet tolerances for the optical device. In this paper, a parametric study of aging condition and pad size of samples was evaluated. A TiW/Cu/electroplated Cu UBM structure was selected and the samples were aging treated to analyze the effect of intermetallic compounds with the time variations. An FIB technique was applied to the preparation of samples for TEM observations. An FIB technique is very useful to prepare TEM thin foil specimens from the solder joint interface. After aging treatment, the tendency to decrease in shear strength was measured and the structure of the solder and the UBM was observed by using SEM, TEM and EDS. As a result, the shear strength was decreased of about 21% in the 100${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ sample at 17$0^{\circ}C$ aging compared with the maximum shear strength of the sample with the same pad size. In the case of the 12$0^{\circ}C$ aging treatment, 18% of decrease in shear strength was measured at the 100${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ pad size sample. An intermetallic compound of Cu6Sn5 and Cu3Sn were also observed through the TEM measurement by using.
