  • The influence of internal stress and joint strength(shear, tensile) according to the deposition conditions was investigated by the Polyimide substrate and ZnO thin film. Deposition thickness and temperature affect the internal stress and the internal stress was minimum at the 60nm and $200^{\circ}C$ of the deposition conditions. Tensile strength is large at the deposition condition that shear strength is large and the shear strength was about 50% of the tensile strength. The shear strength and tensile strength were large at deposition condition that internal stress was small. Crack occurred near the joint interface of Polyimide substrate and progressed along the interface until the final fracture.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the shear strengthening effect of steel fiber in high strength SFRC beams. For this purpose, 13th specimens are prepared and structural tests are performed. Testing variables are shear span to depth ratio, steel fiber volume fraction, shear strengthening ratio in 60 MPa SFRC concrete. From the reviewing of previous researches and analyzing of material and member test results, shear span to depth ratio 2.5 and steel fiber volume fraction 1.0% can be having a maximum strengthening effect in steel fiber. Proposed shear strength estimation equation, which is considering steel fiber strengthening and shear span to depth ratio effect, underestimate the shear capacity of high strength SFRC beams. Therefore a detailed research on strength characteristics of high strength SFRC beams are needed.

  • In order to analyse the strength problems for an unsaturated soil, it is required to examine closely the characteristics of the parameters of shear strength which was changed with the metric suction and void ratio. To this ends, a triaxial compression test was conducted on the three samples-granular soil, cohesive soil and silty soil. The specimen was made by pressing the static pressure on the mold filled soil and was controled the void ratio with the different compaction ratio. And the test was performed by using the modified apparatus of the triaxial compression tester. The range of matric suction was 0-90 kPa.The measured results for the deviator stress and parameters of shear strength were analysed with the void ratio and the compaction ratio, and they were examined closely the characteristics of the strength for an unsaturated soil.

  • The headed studs those are used extensively for steel-composite construction is specified as SS400 at the current Korean Standard specification considering the welding condition. And the corresponding equation for the shear force calculation is limited for the use of compression strength of concrete below $300kg/cm^2$. However, it is expected that the high strengthening and precast of both steel and concrete due to the necessity of shear connector or other connecting material for the combination of steel and concrete. Therefore, the experimental results obtained during the development process of high strength stud for the connection of high strength concrete and the steel member are reported in this paper. Also the effectiveness of newly developed shear connector using pipe to increase the stiffness of a stud is verified by comparing both the stiffness and the strength with common stud bolt through the welding ability, mechanical characteristics and experimental investigation.

  • Based on an experimental study, this study provides an equation to describe the shear strength of high-strength concrete deep beams with rectangular openings and without web reinforcements. Twenty-four concrete deep beams were tested with the variables of concrete strength, size of web opening, and shear span-to-depth ratio. The proposed equation is expressed as the sum of the shear strength provided by longitudinal bars and concrete. It is illustrated that the proposed equation predicts the load-carrying capacity of the deep beams more properly than the experimental equations proposed by other researchers.

  • Traditional methods of earth reinforcement consist of introducing strips, fabrics, or grids into an earth mass. Recently, discrete fibers are simply added and mixed with the soil, much the same as cement, lime or other additives. The advantages of randomly distributed fibers is the maintenance of strength isotropy, low decrease in post-peak shear strength and high stability at failure. In this study, new composite reinforcement structures which consist of geotextile and randomly distributed discrete fibers were examined their engineering properties, such as shear strength of the composite reinforced soil and permeability of short fiber reinforced soil. The increments of shear strength of composite reinforced soils were the sum of increments by fiber and woven geotextile, respectively. The permeability of short fiber reinforced soil was increased with fiber mixing ratio.

  • Since most soils exist above the ground water table, negative pore pressure exist in unsaturated soils. Negative pore water pressure in unsaturated soil affects the soil structure and degree of saturation and it is important for accurate evaluation of unsaturate flow and behavior. This negative pore pressure is called a matric suction which causes an increased shear strength. Therefore, it is required that the effect of increase in the shear strength should be included in a geotechnical analysis. From the test result, the influence of net confining pressure and matric suction on the shear strength was analyzed and strength parameter was increased with matric suction increase and a unliner relationship was found to relate matric suction and shear strength.

  • This study is to propose a truss model which is able to reasonably predict the shear strength of reinforced concrete (RC) members with high-strength materials. The shear strengths of 107 RC test beams with high-strength steel bars reported in the technical literatures were compared to those obtained from proposed model, TATM, and existing truss models. The shear strength of reinforced concrete beams obtained from test was better predicted by TATM than other truss models. Also, the theoretical results by TATM were almost constant regardless of yield strengths and steel ratios of tension and shear reinforcements.

  • This study investigates the effect of surface treatment on the shear strength between aluminum panel and composite plate. The aluminum panel was surface-treated by DC Plasma and the composite Plate was surface-treated by ion beam. Lap shear test and T-peel test were performed to determine the shear strength and T-peel strength. Results showed that the shear strength of surface-treated case was 2.5 times higher than that of untreated case. The T-peel strength of treated case was more than 5 times higher than that of untreated case. SEM examination showed that the strength increase of surface-treated case was due to the more spread of epoxy to the panel.

  • In this study, a strut-and-tie models for the coupling beam based on deformations are presented. To design shear-dominated R/C coupling beams, it is important to consider shear strength deterioration with required deformations. This study proposes the method of estimating shear strength of the reinforced concrete coupling beams. The proposed method determines the strain states from target displacements based on the nonlinear truss analysis. The estimated horizontal strain of beam is then used in calculating the strength of the diagonal strut with compatibility conditions. The deterioration of shear strength of the coupling beam depends on the strength degradation of struts due to plastic deformations.
