석면 분석방법에 대한 고찰 (Review on asbestos analysis)

  • This document was prepared to review and summarize the analytical methods for airborne and bulk asbestos. Basic principles, shortcomings and advantages for asbestos analytical instruments using phase contrast microscopy(PCM), polarized light microscopy(PLM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), scanning electron microscopy(SEM) were reviewed. Both PCM and PLM are principal instrument for airborne and bulk asbestos analysis, respectively. If needed, analytical electron microscopy is employed to confirm asbestos identification. PCM is used originally for workplace airborne asbestos fiber and its application has been expanded to measure airborne fiber. Shortcoming of PCM is that it cannot differentiate true asbestos from non asbestos fiber form and its low resolution limit ($0.2{\sim}0.25{\mu}m$). The measurement of airborne asbestos fiber can be performed by EPA's Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) method, World Health Organization (WHO) method, International Standard Organization (ISO) 10312 method, Japan's Environmental Asbestos Monitoring method, and Standard method of Indoor Air Quality of Korea. The measurement of airborne asbestos fiber in workplace can be performed by National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) 7400 method, NIOSH 7402 method, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) ID-160 method, UK's Health and Safety Executive(HSE) Methods for the determination of hazardous substances (MDHS) 39/4 method and Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) CODE-A-1-2004 method of Korea. To analyze the bulk asbestos, stereo microscope (SM) and PLM is required by EPA -600/R-93/116 method. Most bulk asbestos can be identified by SM and PLM but one limitation of PLM is that it can not see very thin fiber (i.e., < $0.25{\mu}m$). Bulk asbestos analytical methods, including EPA-600/M4-82-020, EPA-600/R-93/116, OSHA ID-191, Laboratory approval program of New York were reviewed. Also, analytical methods for asbestos in soil, dust, water were briefly discussed. Analytical electron microscope, a transmission electron microscope equipped with selected area electron diffraction (SAED) and energy dispersive X-ray analyser(EDXA), has been known to be better to identify asbestiform than scanning electron microscope(SEM). Though there is no standard SEM procedures, SEM is known to be more suitable to analyze long, thin fiber and more cost-effective. Field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) imaging protocol was developed to identify asbestos fiber. Although many asbestos analytical methods are available, there is no method that can be applied to all type of samples. In order to detect asbestos with confidence, all advantages and disadvantages of each instrument and method for given sample should be considered.

  • The electric part of thermal SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopy) consists of high voltage generation, lens control, and image processing. Several methodologies for enhancing SEM image are addressed and those results are verified through analyses and experiments. The controller employes a DSP(Digital Signal Processing), making the system more flexible and convenient than the classical analogue based controller. In some parts based the analog circuit, there are inevitable sources of noise and image distortion. The experimental investigation is provided along with analytical proof to enhance the SEM image.

  • Microstructural analysis was conducted to observe the effect of aging treatments in a Cr-Mn austenitic stainless steel containing nitrogen, and the amount, size, shape and distribution of precipitates were investigated. It was found that on water quenching from $1000^{\circ}C$ after holding 3 h at that temperature, the steel contained no precipitates observable by optical microscopy. Precipitation of phases begins at places most favorable for the formation of nuclei-in the boundaries of grains and twins. Precipitates were studied in detail by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Chemical compositions of precipitates were examined by the use of scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) together with an energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) microanalysis. Also chromium depletion adjacent to grain boundary precipitates was investigated by the use of Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) for a direct examination of the fracture surface chemistry.

  • 이 논문은 SEM(Scanning Electron Microsopy) 경통부에서 전자빔의 집속특성을 최적화하기 위한 방법을 다루고 있다. SEM 에서 물체 표면을 확대하기 위해서는 경통부를 지나는 전자빔을 효과적으로 집속하여 표면에 충돌하는 프로브 직경을 줄이는 것이 중요하다. 이 전자빔의 집속정도를 나타내는 지표가 반배율이다. 본 연구는 전자빔의 집속특성을 효과적으로 구현하기 위해 그에 영향을 끼치는 경통부의 설계 인자들을 렌즈 해석과 광선 추적을 통해 알아본다. 이 결과를 근거로 민감도 분석을 수행하여 설계 인자들이 빔의 집속에 끼치는 영향의 정도를 정량적으로 비교해 볼 수 있다. 이러한 전자빔의 특성에 따른 설계 인자의 분석은 경통부 설계에 있어 중요한 기초 정보로 활용될 수 있다.

  • Plasma electrolyte oxidation (PEO) 표면처리된 Mg 합금을 scanning electron microscopy (SEM) 방법으로 표면에 형성된 산화 막을 조사 분석하였다. 측정은 상온에서 수행하였다. Burning 및 PEO 방식의 표면처리 방법을 통해 제작 된 시료의 산화막을 SEM, EDS 및 I-V 측정을 통해 분석하였다. 그 결과 burning 방식의 표면처리가 PEO보다 내식성이 떨어지는 단점이 있지만, 전도성이 부여되는 결과를 나타낸다.

Preventive Effect of Sugar-free Chewing Gum Containing Maltitol on Dental Caries in situ

  • The preventive effect of chewing gum containing maltitol, xylitol, gum base, and sugar on remineralization were investigated. The clinical study consisted of 8 weeks' randomized, double blind, controlled, cross-over clinical trials including 24 healthy adults had chew gum. After each test week, remineralization effect was evaluated by measuring microhardness and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Microhardness of experimental chewing gum containing maltitol or xylitol was significantly higher than that of sugar gum (p<0.005). Images of SEM showed the remineralization effect of gum containing gum base, maltitol, or xylitol compared with sugar gum. Maltitol and xylitol gums were more effective in remineralization than sugar gum. It was concluded that maltitol and xylitol can be used as sugar substitute to prevent dental caries.

산-염기 처리한 게 껍질에 의한 수풍의 납 이온 제거 (Removal of Pb2+ ion from aqueous solution Using crab shell treated by acid and alkali)

  • In order to examine the pre-treatment effect of crab shell en Pb$^{2+}$ removal by crab shell in aqueous solution, acid and alkali pre-treated crab shell were used. Electron microscopy techniques such as TEM (transmission electron microscopy) and SEM (scanning electron microscopy), and EDX (energy dispersive X-ray) and FTIR (Fourier transform infrared) spectrometry techniques were used to investigate the process of Pb$^{2+}$ removal by acid and alkali pre-treated crab shell. The Pb$^{2+}$ removal by acid pre-treated crab shell was much lower than that by untreated crab shell because of the decrease of CaCO$_3$ from the crab shell. However, the Pb$^{2+}$removal by alkali pre-treated crab shell increased compared to that by untreated crab shell. The results were confirmed by TEM, SEM, EDX and FTIR.nd FTIR.

  • Transparent MgO thin films were deposited on glass substrates by electron beam evaporation of MgO (99.99%) under $O_2$ atmosphere at 150-250 $^{\circ}C$. These films were characterized for their useful properties such as thickness, transmission, and refractive index using ultraviolet / visible (UV/VIS) spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Spectroscopic Ellipsometry. The thickness of MgO films were measured by alpha step instrument and found to be 600 nm to 1000 nm and are meeting the stoichiometry. The transmission spectrum of these films shows transmittance values ${\sim}$92%..

  • Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) has been applied to observe directly the {{{{ SQRT { 19} }}}}${\times}${{{{ SQRT { 19} }}}} and (1${\times}$1)HT reconstructions and the transition associated step bunching on the GaAs (111)B surfaces under As pressure. Close to the transition point, {{{{ SQRT { 19} }}}}${\times}${{{{ SQRT { 19} }}}}an d (1${\times}$1)HT reconstructions are observed in dark and bright domains by SEM and determined by micro-probe reflection high-energy electron diffraction (${\mu}$-RHEED). The reconstruction diagram shows hyster-esis. The stepped surface morphology during the reconstruction transition was unstable. Heavy step bunching with rough macrostep edges was observed.

메조포러스 ZnS가 충전된 P(VDF-HPF) 고분자 전해질 (P(VDF-HPF)-Based Polymer Electrolyte Filled with Mesoporous ZnS)

  • 리튬염을 포함하는 P(VDF-HFP)계 겔 고분자에 surfactant-assisted templating process로 합성한 메조포러스 ZnS를 충전하여 다양한 ZnS 무게비를 가지는 전해질 필름을 제조하였고 겔 필름의 이온 전도도를 온도에 따라 측정하였다. 그 결과, 대체적으로 ZnS의 함량비가 증가할수록 증가하였다. 특히 20 wt%와 25 wt% ZnS를 포함하는 겔 필름은 상온에서 $10^{-4}Scm^{-1}$의 높은 이온 전도도를 보였다. 하지만 20 wt% 이상의 함량비에서는 더 이상 이온 전도도가 증가하지 않았다. 합성된 메조포러스 ZnS와 겔 전해질 필름의 특성은 XRD(x-ray diffractometer), DSC(differential scanning calorimetry), TGA(thermogravimetric analysis), FT-IR(fourier transform-infrared spectrometer), SEM(scanning electron microscopy), TEM(transmission electron microscopy)을 이용하여 분석하였다. 이온 전도도는 교류 임피던스법에 따라서 승온하면서 측정하였다.
