  • Accurate inference of parameters of a stochastic rainfall generation model is essential to improve the applicability of the rainfall generation model which modeled the rainfall process and the structure of rainfall events. In this study, the model parameters of a stochastic rainfall generation model, NSRPM (Neyman-Scott rectangular pulse model), were estimated using DFP (Davidon-Fletcher-Powell), GA (genetic algorithm), Nelder-Mead, and DE (differential evolution) methods. Summer season hourly rainfall data of 20 rainfall observation sites within the Nakdong river basin from 1973 to 2017 were used to estimate parameters and the regional applicability of inference methods were analyzed. Overall results demonstrated that DE and Nelder-Mead methods generate better results than that of DFP and GA methods.

  • This paper proposed an efficient game character design method through semiotic analysis of character. It inquired into the characteristics of game character of various contents characters, added the concept of "Iconic abstraction" of Scott McCloud to its characteristics, and studied on the relation between the character and the semiotics. The semiotic character from the factual character, seized the strong and weak point of each character, and divided them in the designer's character production process and gamer's character recognition process step by step for its semiotic interpretation. As a result, two processes were reversely progressed, and the character designing process considering this gamer's semiotic recognition process is expected to be the efficient character design element that can deliver the whole characteristics of game contents.

  • This study aimed to identify the relationship between depression of the elderly and low back pain. Data were obtained from cross-sectional surveys conducted as a part of the Community Health Survey 2008. The final analysis included data from 3,647 of the 3,649 elderly participants (aged over 65 years), as 2 responses were excluded since they were inaccurate. Data were analyzed with SPSS for Windows (ver. 19.0), using a Rao-Scott ${\chi}^2$-test and Logistic regression by applying a proper weighting. The significance threshold was set as p<0.05. Factors related to the depression of the elderly were low back pain, subjective health status, average sleep duration. Further, depression score was 1.38 times higher in elderly adults with low back pain than elderly adults without low back pain. In order to decrease depression of the elderly with low back pain the development of a program to decrease activities of daily living discomfort and management of low back pain will need to be determined. It is considered necessary to conduct further study to follow through the analysis of the various variables by applying them to the elderly with low back pain and depression.

  • Hypertension has a steadily increasing incidence rate as well as represents a risk factors for secondary diseases such as cardiovascular disease. Therefore, it is important to predict the incidence rate of the disease. In this study, we constructed nomograms that can predict the incidence rate of hypertension. We use data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) for 2013-2016. The complex sampling data required the use of a Rao-Scott chi-squared test to identify 10 risk factors for hypertension. Smoking and exercise variables were not statistically significant in the Logistic regression; therefore, eight effects were selected as risk factors for hypertension. Logistic and Bayesian nomograms constructed from the selected risk factors were proposed and compared. The constructed nomograms were then verified using a receiver operating characteristics curve and calibration plot.

  • Growth rate and osmolyte accumulation of L. monocytogenes were measured at the varying concentrations of NaCl. L. monocytogenes accumulated glycine betaine and glutamate intracellularly when grown under osmotic stress by NaCl, and the amounts of them increased as the concentration of NaCl was increased. They were 685 and 345 nmol/mg protein, respectively, when grown in the BHI supplemented with 4% NaCl. In order to inhibit L. monocytogenes effectively, both NaCl and Morus alba L. leaf extract were supplemented in TSB, and antibacterial effect of those supplements on L. monocytogenes was tested. Growth of L. monocytogenes grown in TSB supplemented with 2% NaCl and 100 ppm M. alba leaf extract decreased by 10 times in CFU/ml unit comparing to the growth of control. When grown in TSB, supplemented with 2% NaCl plus 500 ppm M. alba leaf extract and 2% NaCl plus 1,000 ppm M. alba leaf extract, growth of L. monocytogenes decreased by $10^5\;and\;10^8$ times in CFU/ml unit, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors related to problem drinking in male workers according to occupational classes. Data were derived from the 2012 Korean National Survey on male workers. A total of 391 office workers, 707 manufacturing workers, and 309 service workers participated in this study. Data were analyzed using Rao-Scott $X^2$-test, simple and multiple logistic regressions. Problem drinking was defined as ${\geq}8$ points in the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test. The problem drinking rates were 45.1% in office workers, 39.1% in manufacturing, and 42.3% in service. In office workers, the factor related to problem drinking was only smoking. In manufacturing workers, the factors related to problem drinking were spouse, smoking and prevalence of Diabetes. In service workers, the factors related to problem drinking were age and smoking. Therefore, different intervention should be developed for each occupational class in order to manage the problem drinking in male workers.

  • In this study, rainfall data with various temporal scales (3-, 6-, 12-, 24-hr) are disaggregated into 1-hourly rainfall data to evaluate the performance of rainfall disaggregation technique. The rainfall disaggregation technique is based on a database generated by the stochastic point rainfall model, the Neyman-Scott Rectangular Pulse Model (NSRPM). Performance evaluation is carried out using July rainfall data of Ulsan, Changwon, Busan and Milyang weather stations in Korea. As a result, the rainfall disaggregation technique showed excellent performance that can consider not only the major statistics of rainfall but also the spatial correlation. It also indirectly shows the uncertainty of future climate change scenarios with daily temporal scale. The rainfall disaggregation technique is expected to disaggregate the future climate change scenarios, and to be effective in the future watershed management.

  • This paper aims to analyze lexical properties of keyword lists extracted from NLT Old Testament Corpus(NOTC), NLT New Testament Corpus(NNTC), and The NLT Bible Corpus(NBC) and identify that text dispersion keyness is more effective than corpus frequency keyness. For this purpose, NOTC including around 570,000 running words and NNTC about 200,000 were compiled after downloading the files from NLT website of Bible Hub. Scott's (2020) WordSmith 8.0 was utilized to extract keyword lists through comparing a target corpus and a reference corpus. The result demonstrated that text dispersion keyness showed lexical properties of keyword lists better than corpus frequency keyness and that the former was a superior measure for generating optimal keyword lists to fully meet content-generalizability and content distinctiveness.
