  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of Low Level Laser Therapy on Atopic dermatitis symptoms. Methods 19 patients (7 men, 12 women) were involved in this study. The intensity of SCORAD index (Erythema/darkening, Edema/papulation, Oozing/crust, Excoriation, Lichenification/prurigo, Dryness) and the symptom of SCORAD index (Pruritus) in two regions were measured. One region was treated by LLLT, the other region was not treated. Then a comparative study of index score of two regions was analyzed. Results After treatment, there were statistically significant differences in Edema/papulation, Excoriation (p<0.001), Oozing/crust (p<0.01), and Pruritus(p<0.05) index. Conclusions Based on the results, we concluded that LLLT is an effective in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Also, further controlled studies with clinical cases of appropriate treatment time, wavelength, and intervals are needed.

Methods : A total of 35 patients who visited Daegu Hanny Oriental Medical Center from November 4th, 2008 to December 28th, 2008 were included in this study. In this study, we observed transepidermal water loss, skin moisture content, modified scorad index of atopic dermatitis and pruritic degree. Statistical analysis was performed by using paired t-test and wilcoxon signed ranks test. Statistical significance was achieved if the probability was less than 5%(p<0.05). Results : Statistically, herbal cosmetics containing Phellinus linteus extracts showed siginificant effect on transepidermal water loss, skin moisture content, modified scorad index of atopic dermatitis and pruritic degree(p<0.05). And satisfaction after using herbal cosmetics was near good. Conclusions : Considering the above results, we have concluded that herbal cosmetics containing Phellinus linteus extracts have the remarkable effects on atopic dermatitis.

We administered mahaenggamseog-tang with heat-clearing and lung-dispersing(淸熱宣肺) effect to two dermatitis patients who showed sweating with panting(汗出而喘), vexation and thirst(煩渴), aversion to heat(惡熱), agitation(煩燥), swelling of the face and eyes(面目浮腫). The severity of dermatitis was evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS), pictures, SCORAD index(case 1), PASI(case 2). After the treatment, VAS/SCORAD index of case 1 changed from 9/71.5 to 0/6.1; VAS/PASI of case 2 from 8/36.8 to 1/6.8. Mahaenggamseog-tang could improved the symptoms of atopic dermatitis and psoriasis in this study. This study offers an approach to managing chronic dermatitis more effectively using Mahaenggamseog-tang which used mainly for bronchial diseases and obesity.

Only randomized controlled trials(RCT) was selected and anlayzed according to the research method. Results : A total 4 studies were reviewed. LI11, ST36, SP10 were most frequently used acupoints in acupuncture treatment. Among the evaluation indexes, SCORAD, VAS, DLQI were used most. In most of the 4 studies, acupuncture treatment showed significant therapeutic effects. Conclusions : These results suggest that it is necessary to develop more detailed standards about Acupuncture treatment method as the method of acupuncture is getting more diverse, and objective tools are needed in evaluating Atopic Dermatitis.

  • Objective : To observe the efficacy and safety of CheungYeolYiSeup-tang and Hwangbaek external dressings on dampness-heat pattern atopic dermatitis(AD) in a non-comparative study. Methods : 10 patients with AD were included for 4 weeks of treatment. Efficacy and safety assessment included the scoring atopic dermatitis index(SCORAD), typical signs and symptoms of AD, results of some laboratory tests related to toxicity, and the incidence of adverse events. Results : Improvements in efficacy parameters were observed and produced no significant changes in laboratory tests related to toxicity in these patients. Their SCORAD results significantly decreased after 4weeks(P value<.01, according to the Wilcoxon sum of ranks test). Similarly, significant reductions from baseline in subjective pruritus scores and (P value<.05 by the Wilcoxon sum of ranks test) and the mean average of individual signs and symptoms of AD were reported after 4 weeks(P value<.05, P<0.01 by the Wilcoxon sum of ranks test). There were no significant changes in eosinophil, neutrophil, lymphocyte, immunoglobulin E and ESR in blood serum by paired ttest. Conclusion :CheungYeolYiSeup-tang administration and Hwangbaek external dressings are an effective and safe treatment for the management of dampness-heat pattern atopic dermatitis.
