The pre-service and in-service science teacher training system, institutes, curricula, programs, and evaluation on the institutes were briefly introduced. The differences before and after the 1996 reform of science teacher training system were compared. Finally, the attempts and efforts that have been done through the channels of research to promote science teachers' professional development were addressed. These efforts include the Case studies of exemplary science teachers' teaching performances, the development of licensure instruments for the certification of science teachers, the use of computers and distance education for supervising student teachers, the exploration of promoting science teachers' understanding about the nature of science, the exploration of promoting science teachers' pedagogical content knowledge, the exploration of promoting science teachers' ability of increasing effective student-teacher and student-student interactions, and the exploration of effective teaching strategies.

  • The purposes of this research were as follows : (1) to investigate the effectiveness of the program for elementary preservice teachers, which was designed to develop postmodern views of science and constructivist views of teaming and teaching and (2) to find out the relation between students' learning approaches and their beliefs about science and school science. One hundred and forty three students enrolled in Science Education 11 in the University of Education participaled in the study. Students' beliefs of science and school science was not changed after treatment of the program. But they showed postmodern views of science and school science in comparison with the science teacher. Additionally the results showed that meaningful learners showed the constructivist view about school science as compared with the rote learners.

  • The 'Mobile Science Lab' is a public program designed to bring teenagers to be engaged in the activities of science and technology. In this study, we attended to elementary school students' participating actions in the program and intended to understand their enjoyment of science from sociocultural and practical perspectives. By drawing on case materials culled from our database, we articulated the features of the enjoyable science activities in the form of two major claims. First, students had rich opportunities to communicate emotionality, which therefore grounds emerging actions on the positive emotional valence. Second, ongoing actions opened up new action possibilities not only to the actors themselves, but also to other community members. The results of this study constitute theoretical frameworks for understanding enjoyment without dichotomizing emotion and cognition, and thereby contribute to designing enjoyable activities of learning science.

  • This study investigated the effect of the 'Chemistry in everyday life' course for 234 pre-service elementary teachers on their beliefs regarding science teaching efficacy and the nature of science. This study also examined the effect of this particular course by their field (natural science, humanities & social science, and fine arts). The results show that after the semester the pre-service teachers' science teaching efficacy beliefs were enhanced. In particular, their personal science teaching efficacy beliefs were improved across all fields. However, their beliefs regarding the nature of science remained largely unchanged. This study discussed the implications surrounding science courses for pre-service teachers.

Next, we chose 1848 students that 50 teachers take charge. The results are as follows. 1. The children learned from lowest scored teacher got the higher point than the children learned from highest scored teacher in science achievement test. 2. Children's science attitude have a little differences in 4 sub-boundary area but totally lower science anxiety group have higher score than higher science anxiety group. 3.
