Scatter correction for I-131 plays a very important role to improve image quality and quantitation. I-131 has multiple and higher energy gamma-ray emissions. Image quality and quantitative accuracy in I-131 imaging are degraded by object scatter as well as scatter and septal penetration in the collimator. The purpose of this study was to estimate scatter and septal penetration and investigate two scatter correction methods using Monte Carlo simulation. The gamma camera system simulated in this study was a FORTE system (Phillips, Nederland) with high energy, general-purpose, parallel hole collimator. We simulated for two types of high energy collimators. One is composed of lead, and the other is composed of artificially high Z number and high density. We simulated energy spectrum using a point source in air. We estimated both full width at half maximum (FWHM) and full width at tenth maximum (FWTM) using line spread function (LSF) in cylindrical water phantom. We applied two scatter correction methods, triple energy window scatter correction (TEW) and extended triple energy window scatter correction (ETEW). The TEW method is a pixel-by pixel based correction which is easy to implement clinically. The ETEW is a modification of the TEW which corrects for scatter by using abutted scatter rejection window, which can overestimate or the underestimate scatter. The both FWHM and FWTM were estimated as 41.2 mm and 206.5 mm for lead collimator, respectively. The FWHM and FWTM were estimated as 27.3 mm and 45.6 mm for artificially high Z and high density collimator, respectively. ETEW showed that the estimation of scatter components was close to the true scatter components. In conclusion, correction for septal penetration and scatter is important to improve image quality and quantitative accuracy in I-131 imaging. The ETEW method in scatter correction appeared to be useful in I-131 imaging.

A backscatter Kikuchi diffraction attachment to an SEM enables the convenient investigation of grain orientations on bulk or micro surface. Their relation to micro structural features gives insight into many aspects of anisotropic materials properties. In micro area such as Micro Electro Mechanical Systems(MEMS) devices is required in order to improve understanding of how they may be expected to perform upon the micro scale. Electro Back Scatter Diffraction (EBSD) helps us to find uniform area as MEMS material. The ${\gamma}-TiAl$ has two different lamellar structures ${\gamma}/{\alpha}2-Ti_3Al$ phase which have shows $\{111\}{\gamma}//\{0001\}{\alpha}2$ plane indexing. The micro size testing specimen was successfully made by this structural relation. Interlamellar structure specimen averagely show $20{\sim}25%$ lower fracture toughness value compare with translamellar specimens Moreover micro fracture surface and micro crack progress were observed.
To inspect the quality of data collected from a large-scale body measurement and investigation project, it is necessary to establish a proper data editing process. The three-dimensional body measurement may have measuring errors caused from measurer's proficiency or changes in the subject's posture. And it may also have errors caused in the process of algorithm expressing the information obtained from the three-dimensional scanner into numerical values, and in the course of data-processing dealing with numerous data for individuals. When those errors are found, the quality of the measured data is deteriorated, and they consequently reduce the quality of statistics which was conducted on the basis of it. Therefore this study intends to suggest a new way to improve the quality of the data collected from the three-dimensional body measurement by proposing a working procedure identifying data errors and correcting them from the whole data processing procedure-collecting, processing, and analyzing- of the 2004 Size Korea Three-dimensional Body Measurement Project. This study was carried out into three stages: Firstly, we detected erroneous data by examining of logical relations among variables under each edit rule. Secondly, we detected suspicious data through independent examination of individual variable value by sex and age. Finally, we examined scatter-plot matrix of many variables to consider the relationships among them. This simple graphical tool helps us to find out whether some suspicious data exist in the data set or not. As a result of this study, we detected some erroneous data included in the raw data. We figured out that the main errors are not because of the system errors that the three-dimensional body measurement system has but because of the subject's original three-dimensional shape data. Therefore by correcting some erroneous data, we have enhanced data quality.
The mechanical properties of polycrystalline thin-films, critical for Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) components, are known to have the size effect and the scatter in the length scale of microns by the numbers of intensive investigation by experiments and simulations. So, the consideration of the microstructure is essential to cover these length scale effects. The lattice based stochastic model for the microstructure evolution is used to simulate the actual microstructure, and the fast and reliable algorithm is described in this paper. The kinetics parameters, which are the key parameters for the microstructure evolution based on the nucleation and growth mechanism, are extracted from the given micrograph of a polycrystalline material by an inverse method. And the method is verified by the comparison of the quantitative measures, the number of grains and the grain size distribution, for the actual and simulated microstructures. Finite element mesh is then generated on this lattice based microstructure by the developed code. And the statistical finite element analysis is accomplished for selected microstructure.
By using an approach developed to determine the torque-tension relationship for bolted joints, frictional properties of several typical bolted joints were studied experimentally. The specific property by bolted joints certify that the most significant influence of materials and bearing surface condition. Experiments on thread friction shows that prevailing torque nuts with distorted threads provide benefit for preventing self-loosening of the nut. Repeated tightening-loosening generally increases frictions in a bolted joint. It was noted that the data scatter of the experimental results of frictions in a belted joint may overshadow the influence of size. speed, and contact positions. The results from the experimental investigation will help to better design bolted joints.
A series of performance measurements of positron emission tomography (PET) were performed following the recommendations of the Computer and Instrumentation Council of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association. We investigated the performance of the General Electric $Advance^{TM}$ PET. The measurements include the basic intrinsic tests of spatial resolution, scatter fraction, sensitivity, and count rate losses and randoms. They also include the tests of the accuracy of corrections: count rate linearity correction, uniformity correction, scatter correction and attenuation correction. GE $Advance^{TM}$ PET has bismuth germanate oxide crystals (4.0mm transaxial ${\times}$ 8.1mm axial ${\times}$ 30.0mm radial) in 18 rings, which form 35 imaging planes spaced by 4.25mm. The system has retractable tungsten septa 1mm thick and 12cm long. Transaxial resolution was 4.92mm FWHM in 2D and 5.14mm FWHM in 3D at the center. Average axial resolution in 2D decreased from 3.91mm FWHM at the center to 6.49mm FWHM at R=20cm. Average scatter fraction of direct and cross slices was 9.57%. Dead-time losses of 50% corresponded to a radioactivity concentration of $4.86{\mu}Ci/cc$ and a true count rate of 519 kcps in 2D. The accuracy of count rate linearity correction was 1.84% at the activity of $4.50{\mu}Ci/cc$. Non-uniformity was 2.06% in 2D and 2.93% in 3D. Remnant errors after scatter correction were 0.55% in 2D and 4.12% in 3D. The errors of attenuation correction were 6.21% (air), 0.20% (water), -6.32% (teflon) in 2D and 5.00% (air), 6.94% (water), 3.01% (teflon) in 3D. The results indicate the performance of GE $Advance^{TM}$ PET scanner to be well suited for clinical and research applications.
This research had been executed to find out the structure of Magnolia obovata community, a dispersal range and characteristics of scatter investigation, and to prepare management measure of it. In the result of this study, Magnolia obovata was distributed in a native plant community from planting trees of UNESCO Peace Center. The maximum numbers of Magnolia obovata were found in $20{\sim}100m$ from trees of mother. Seed of Magnolia obovata has a characteristics of gravity dispersal. But some individuals was found in 420m from its tree of mother. Seeds of Magnolia obovata has a characteristics of animal dispersal, too. Major species of animal dispersal are Garrulus glandarius, Ciurus vulgaris coreae, and Tamias sibiricus asiaticus in the study site. The importance value between native plants and Magnolia obovata had a negative relation. Because Magnolia obovata is more shade tolerant than other trees. Also, the growth of Magnolia obovata is faster than other trees. And so if the influence of Magnolia obovata reduce, it is necessary to expand native plant community, and to cut Magnolia obovata over 10m of the height and over 10cm of the DBH, for preventing influence of Magnolia obovata.
Experimental and computational studies were performed to determine the effects of different blade designs on a flow pattern inside a double-spindle counter rotating mower deck. In the experimental study, two different blade models were tested by measuring air velocities using a forward-scatter LDV system. The velocity measurements were taken at several different azimuth and axial sections inside the deck. The measured velocity distributions clarified the air flow pattern caused by the rotating blades and demonstrated the effects of deck and blade designs. A high-speed video camera and a sound level meter were used for flow visualization and noise level measurement. In the computational works, two-dimensional blade shapes at several arbitrary radial sections have been selected for flow computations around the blade model. For three-dimensional computation applied a non-inertia coordinate system, a flow field around the entire three-dimensional blade shape is used to evaluate flow patterns in order to take radial flow interactions into account. The computational results were compared with the experimental results.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the method of making whole Chinese cabbage Kimchi, the family's taste in Kimchi and the reason for disliking the taste of Kimchi in the Taegu area. The results were as follows; 1) Most housewives learned the method of making the Kimchi from their mothers. Method was as follows; First, scatter salt on the whole Chinese cabbage and soak that for 3∼6 hours. After, wash the whole Chinese cabbage 3 times. Then, add red pepper powder, garlic, ginger and salted fermented anchovy as basic seasoning. Be sure to, mix the red pepper powder and salted fermented anchovy until they taste hot and salty. Store the whole Chinese cabbage until they ferment. Afterwards store the whole Chinese cabbage in the refrigerator. 2) It was the whole Chinese cabbage Kimchi that most family members preferred. 3) Among the family members, the old age group preferred newly made Kimchi because of the cool and fresh taste. The adult group preferred fresh taste, also smell and peculiar taste of the seasoning were important. The adolescent group preferred fresh taste and sour taste. 4) It shows that most of the family likes Kimchi, and among the family members, about 25% of the sons and daughters dislike Kimchi. And it shows that all family members dislike salty taste. 5) The older housewives’ Kimchi was preferred over the younger housewives’ Kimchi.
Protein-polysaccharide fractions, PJ-3 and PJ-4, were prepared from mycelial culture filtrate of an insect-born fungus, Paecilomyces japonica DGUM 32001, and subjected to a flow cytometrical analysis for their vivo antitumor and immunomodulating activity in ICR mice. When i.p. injected once daily for semen days at 100 mg/kg, PJ-4 exerted a strong antitumor activity showing the growth inhibition ratio of 85.1% against i.p. implanted sarcoma 180 cells, while PJ-3 showed only a weak activity. Moreover, PJ-4 signiscantly increased the expression level of CD25 (IL-2R $\alpha$-chain) as well as forward scatter (FSC) values of splenic CD8$^{8}$ T cells. It is also noteworthy that PJ-4 strongly induced the peritoneal exudate cells in the same experiment. In an in vitro study, PJ-4 slightly inhibited the growth of sarcoma 180 cells at the concentration of 50$\mu$g/ml or higher. These results strongly suggest that PJ-4 might exert its antitumor activity through immunostimulation as well as direct inhibitory activity on the tumor cells.
