  • In this study, dyeability of PET fabric was investigated depending on dyeing temperature, pressure, and leveling time using laboratory scale supercritical $CO_2(scCO_2)$ dyeing machine. Dyeing temperature, pressure, leveling time were varied from 100, 120, $130^{\circ}C$, 150, 200, 250bar, 40, 60, 80, 100min, respectively. It is proved that the higher temperature of $scCO_2$ dyeing process, the higher K/S value and the lower $L^*$ value, which in turn means the lower amount of dyeing molecules remained after process done. Compared 200bar with 250bar of dyeing pressure, $scCO_2$ dyeing fabrics under 250bar appeared to have a lower $L^*$ value, a higher K/S value than those from 200bar, meaning that dyeing color turns to darker with higher dyeing pressure. The experiments showed that the most ideal condition for $scCO_2$ dyeing process is $120^{\circ}C$, 250bar for 60 - 100min of leveling time.

  • This study aimed at examining the anti-inflammatory effects of Scutellariae Radix & Lonicerae Caulis water extract(SC). RAW 264.7 mouse macrophage cells were treated with $25{\sim}200{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ SC for 24 hours. Cell viability was then measured using MTT assays. The nitric oxide(NO) production and the creation of several cytokines in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells were investigated. SC inhibited significantly increasing the production of NO in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cell at the density of 25, 50 and $200{\mu}g/m{\ell}$. SC inhibited significantly the TNF-${\alpha}$ of the RAW 264.7 cell induced by LPS at the density of $50{\mu}g/m{\ell}$. SC inhibited significantly the MIP-$1{\alpha}$ of the RAW 264.7 cell induced by LPS at the density of 25, 50 and $100{\mu}g/m{\ell}$. SC inhibited significantly the MIP-$1{\beta}$, MIP-2 at the density of 50, $100{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ in the RAW 264.7 cell increased by LPS, respectively. SC did not affect the production levels of VEGF in RAW 264.7 cell. As a result, SC significantly inhibited the inductions of MIP-$1{\alpha}$, MIP-$1{\beta}$, MIP-2 and NO in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cell without causing the toxicity. These results signify that SC has anti-inflammatory effects on controlling the over inflammatory reaction on the RAW 264.7 cell.

  • Objectives : This study was undertaken to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of Spatholobi Caulis water extract (SC) to thioacetamide (TAA)-induced acute liver injury (ALI) in rats. Methods : The rats were injected intraperitoneally with TAA (200 mg/kg body weight) and orally administered SC (100 or 200 mg/kg b.w.) daily for 3 days. Liver biomarkers were assessed by serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT), and ammonia levels. Malondialdehyde (MDA) was measured both serum and liver tissue. In addition, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase, anti-oxidant, and inflammation-related proteins were investigated by western blot analysis. Histological examination further confirmed though hematoxylin and eosin stain. Results : The SC treatment reduced liver function markers like GOT and GPT and also remarkably decreased ammonia level. Moreover, the elevated MDA level in TAA-induced group was significantly reduced by SC treatment. NADPH oxidase expression associated with oxidative stress including NOX2, NOX4, and p47phox markedly inhibited by SC administration. SC treatment exerted anti-oxidant effect through the increase of anti-oxidant enzyme including superoxide dismutase (SOD), Catalase, and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1). The protein expressions of inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-), IL-6, and IL-1 induced by nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-B) activation were modulated through blocking the phosphorylation of inhibitor of nuclear factor B (IB). SC treatment also improved histological alterations. Conclusion : These findings suggested that SC administration may be a potential candidate for the prevention or treatment of ALI.

  • For proton pencil beam scanning (PBS) technology, the accuracy of the dose distribution in a patient is sensitive to the properties of the incident beam. However, mechanical deformation of the proton therapy facility may occur, and this could be an important factor affecting the proton dose distribution in patients. In this paper, we investigated the effect of deformation on an SC200 proton facility's beam isocenter properties. First, mechanical deformation of the PBS nozzle, L-shape plate, and gantry were simulated using a Finite Element code, ANSYS. Then, the impact of the mechanical deformation on the beam's isocenter properties was evaluated using empirical formulas. In addition, we considered the simplest case that could affect the properties of the incident beam (i.e. if only the bending magnet (BG3) has an error in its mounting alignment), and the effect of the beam optics offset on the isocenter characteristics was evaluated. The results showed that the deformation of the beam position in the X and Y direction was less than 0.27 mm, which meets the structural design requirements. Compared to the mechanical deformation of the L-shape plate, the deformation of the gantry had more influence on the beam's isocenter properties. When the error in the mounting alignment of the BG3 is equal to or more than 0.3 mm, the beam deformation at the isocenter exceeds the maximum accepted deformation limits. Generally speaking, for the current design of the SC200 scanning beam delivery system, the effects of mechanical deformation meet the maximum accepted beam deformation limits. In order to further study the effect of the incident beam optics on the isocenter properties, a fine-scale Monte Carlo model including factors relating to the PBS nozzle and the BG3 should be developed in future research.

  • The antioxidant and antimicrobial effects of acid-soluble and pepsin-solubilizable shark (Isurus oxyrinchus) collagens (SC) (ASSC: acid-soluble shark skin collagen, ASMC: acid-soluble shark meat collagen, PSSC: pepsin-solubilizable shark skin collagen, PSMC: pepsin-solubilizable shark meat collagen) and standard marine collagen (STMC) as materials, and the ability of these materials to inhibit tyrosinase and elastase, were investigated. The electron-donating ability of SC ($1{\sim}5\;g/mL$) was $14.91{\sim}17.21%$, which was $3.0{\sim}3.6$-fold higher than that of STMC at the same concentration. Also, the SOD(superoxide dismutase)-like activity of SC (5.80 mg/mL) was $4.67{\sim}37.28%$, thus $3.0{\sim}3.6$-fold greater than that of STMC. The MIC values of SC against Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella enteritidis were $5{\mu}g$/disc, which were remarkably lower than that of STMC ($200{\mu}g$/disc). There was no antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli in STMC, but the MIC against E. coli was $200{\mu}g$/disc for acid-soluble SC and $100{\mu}g$/disc for pepsin-solubilizable SC. The inhibition of tyrosinase by SC (3-5 mg/mL) was $58.95{\sim}98.16%$, $3.34{\sim}3.74$-fold higher than that of STMC ($17.67{\sim}26.25%$). Also, elastase inhibition by SC (at 1 mg/mL) was $53.33{\sim}80.0%$, $1.1{\sim}4.0$-fold greater than that of STMC. These results indicated that shark collagens may be valuable new functional materials owing to their antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, and because the inhibitory activities against elastase and tyrosinase are better than those of standard marine collagen.

  • In this paper, Intermediate frequency tunable 4th order Switched Capacitor(SC) bandpass Sigma-Delta(${\Sigma}-{\Delta}$) modulator using feedback integrator using feedback integrator coefficients is proposed. The center frequency of the modulator can be easily changed than conventional structure because of a number of integrator coefficients which is decided rate of capacitors in circuit is reduced. In addition additive clocks and additive clock generating circuit are not necessary. The purposed modulator was implemented in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The resolution of the modulator within 200 kHz bandwidth and 80 MHz sampling frequency under fin = 15 MHz, 20 MHz, 25 MHz are over 12 bit.

  • This paper presents a switched capacitor (SC) based bidirectional dc-dc converter topology for high voltage gain applications. The proposed converter is able to operate with multiple integral voltage conversion ratios based on user input. The architecture of a user-friendly, inductor-less multi-voltage-gain bidirectional dc-dc converter is proposed in this study. The inductor-less or magnetic-less design of the proposed converter makes it effective in higher temperature applications. Furthermore, the proposed converter has a reduced component count and lower voltage stress across its switches and capacitors when compared to existing SC converters. An output impedance analysis of the proposed converter is presented and compared with popular existing SC converters. The proposed converter is simulated in the OrCAD PSpice environment and the obtained results are presented. A 200 W hardware prototype of the proposed SC converter has been developed. Experimental results are presented to validate the efficacy of the proposed converter.

  • Supercritical $CO_2$($scCO_2$) extraction has a great possibility to be a new process to recover metal and to replace the existing leaching/solvent extraction processes. The cobalt extraction was carried out using $scCO_2$ from cobalt sulphate solution. The bis (2,4,4-trimethylpentyl) phosphinic acid and diethylamine ligands were used to extract cobalt ion in $scCO_2$. The recommended method consists of $scCO_2$/extractants complexation process and metal extraction process at 60, 200bar. Experimental results showed that the extraction efficiency of Co was increased by 16-99% with increasing the ligand amount.

  • Three switched-capacitor(SC) networks are presented including series-parallel capacitor set, reversed-switched-capacitor network and push-pull switched-capacitor network, the performances of which are discussed. Combining the SC networks with traditional DC-DC converters, we form several new topologies. Experiment and analyzed results show that the behavior of a DC-DC converter with large voltage ratio can be improved. A wider voltage conversion range is also obtained.

  • The objective of this study was to enhance the oral bioavailability (BA) of zanamivir (ZMR) by increasing its intestinal permeability using permeation enhancers (PE). Four different classes of PEs (Labrasol$^{(R)}$, sodium cholate, sodium caprate, hydroxypropyl ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin) were investigated for their ability to enhance the permeation of ZMR across Caco-2 cell monolayers. The flux and $P_{app}$ of ZMR in the presence of sodium caprate (SC) was significantly higher than other PEs in comparison to control, and was selected for further investigation. All concentrations of SC (10-200 mM) demonstrated enhanced flux of ZMR in comparison to control. The highest flux (13 folds higher than control) was achieved for the formulation with highest SC concentration (200 mM). The relative BA of ZMR formulation containing SC (PO-SC) in plasma at a dose of 10 mg/kg following oral administration in rats was 317.65% in comparison to control formulation (PO-C). Besides, the $AUC_{0-24\;h}$ of ZMR in the lungs following oral administration of PO-SC was $125.22{\pm}27.25$ ng hr $ml^{-1}$ with a $C_{max}$ of $156.00{\pm}24.00$ ng/ml reached at $0.50{\pm}0.00$ h. But, there was no ZMR detected in the lungs following administration of control formulation (PO-C). The findings of this study indicated that the oral formulation PO-SC containing ZMR and SC was able to enhance the BA of ZMR in plasma to an appropriate amount that would make ZMR available in lungs at a concentration higher (>10 ng/ml) than the $IC_{50}$ concentration of influenza virus (0.64-7.9 ng/ml) to exert its therapeutic effect.
