United Electromagnetic Characteristics and Online Monitoring Method of Static Air-gap Eccentricity of Turbo-Generator

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the united Electromagnetic characteristics for the effective monitoring on the static air-gap eccentricity (SAGE) of turbo-generator. Different from other studies, this paper not only studies on the unbalanced magnetic pull (UMP) and the vibration characteristics of the stator and the rotor, but also investigates the harmonic features of the magnetic flux density and the circulating current inside the parallel branches (CCPB). The theoretical calculation, together with the finite-element-method (FEM) simulation and the experiment verification, is taken for a SDF-9 type non-salient generator. It is shown that, when SAGE occurs, apparent double-frequency UMP and vibrations will be produced both on the stator and the rotor, while the CCPB will have an obvious increment at the $1^{st}$ harmonic component. In addition, the amplitude of the magnetic flux density will be of cosine distribution in the circumferential position of the air-gap, while in normal condition it is a constant. Moreover, the pass-band amplitude, together with the $1^{st}$ harmonic of the magnetic flux density, will be enlarged as well. These united electromagnetic characteristics can be used as the diagnosis and monitoring criterion for SAGE.

포항시 마을 숲 조성실태 연구 (A Study on Condition of Village Groves in Pohang City)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the village groves in Pohang city by classifying them into 5 categories: sage plantation, shelter-belt plantation, shore plantation, ornamental plantation and bower plantation. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; The village groves in Pohang city consist of 16 sage plantations ($128,682m^2$), 14 shelter-belt plantations ($807,755 m^2$), 17 shore plantations ($447,616m^2$), 10 ornamental plantations ($141,276m^2$) and 6 bower plantations ($79,075 m^2$). Namely, the ratio of shore plantations is highest (n=17) in terms of number, while that of shelter-belt plantations is highest (50.3%) in terms of area. On the other hand, Pinus Thunbergii account for the absolute majority (n=55,239, 74.1 %) of the trees, followed by pine trees (n=18,017, 24.2%). Both species are combined to account for 98.3% of the entire trees, which means that the plantations are simple in terms of tree species When the village groves were compared in terms of functional age, sage plantations are oldest or aged 143 years, followed by bower plantations (aged 137), ornamental plantations (aged 118), shore plantations (aged 92) and shelter-belt plantations (aged 88).

Gene Expression Profiling in Rice Infected with Rice Blast Fungus using SAGE

  • Rice blast disease, caused by the pathogenic fungus Magnaporthe grisea, is a serious issue in rice (Oryza sativa L.) growing regions of the world. Transcript profiling in rice inoculated with the fungus has been investigated using the transcriptomics technology, serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE). Short sequence tags containing sufficient information which are ten base-pairs representing the unique transcripts were identified by SAGE technology. We identified a total of 910 tag sequences via the GenBank database, and the resulting genes were shown to be up-regulated in all functional categories under the fungal biotic stress. Compared to the compatible interaction, the stress and defense genes in the incompatible interaction appear to be more up-regulated. Particularly, thaumatin-like gene (TLP) was investigated in determining the gene and protein expression level utilizing Northern and Western blotting analyses, resulting in an increase in both the gene and the protein expression level which arose earlier in the incompatible interaction than in the compatible interaction.

매염제 처리에 의한 허브 염색직물의 염착 특성 - 세이지와 로즈마리 추출물 중심으로 - (Dyeing Characteristics of Herb Dyed Fabrics Treated with Mordants - Focused on Sage and Rosemary Extract -)

  • Unlike synthetic dyes, natural dyes do not affect the human body or create atmosphere pollution that are also mothproof, antibiotic and sterilized. This study examined the changes in dye adsorption properties according to mordant types and mordanting method to qualify trends using sage and rosemary extracts. Dyeability of sage extract is often similar to rosemary extract regardless of dyeing conditions. Dyeing properties of herb colorants on cotton, silk and wool fiber and effect of dyeing conditions on dye uptake were also compared. Dyed fabric showed a yellowish color and the dyeing affinity was somewhat good with rosemary extract. The surface color of the dyed fabrics was darkened by mordant treatment. The K/S value of herb colorants of protein fiber was higher than cellulose fiber. The concentration of mordant having the highest dyeing affinity was different from the mordant type. Regardless of the type of fiber, the K/S value of premordanting was the highest in mordanting method, and the K/S value of simultaneous mordanting indicated no noticeable mordant effect. The fastness of washing of silk fabric was reduced the most by mordant treatment. The lightfastness was reduced in Al mordant treatment regardless of the type of fiber. The lightfastness of wool increased somewhat by mordant treatment.

DUST PRODUCTION BY EVOLVED STARS IN THE MAGELLANIC CLOUDS

  • Within the context of the hugely successful SAGE-LMC and SAGE-SMC surveys, Spitzer photometry observations of the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds have revealed millions of infrared point sources in each galaxy. The brightest infrared sources are generally dust producing and mass-losing evolved stars, and several tens of thousands of such stars have been classified. After photometrically classifying these objects, the dust production by several kinds of evolved stars - such as Asymptotic Giant Branch stars and Red Supergiants - can be determined. SAGE-Spec is the spectroscopic follow-up to the SAGE-LMC survey, and it has obtained Spitzer-IRS $5-40{\mu}m$ spectroscopy of about 200 sources in the LMC. Combined with archival data from other programs, observations at a total of ~1000 pointings have been obtained in the LMC, while ~250 IRS pointings were observed in the SMC. Of these, a few hundred pointings represent dust producing and mass-losing evolved stars, covering a range in colors, luminosities, and thus mass-loss rates. Red Supergiants and O-rich and C-rich AGB stars - the main dust producers - are well represented in the spectroscopic sample. This paper will summarize what we know about the mineralogy of dust producing evolved stars, and discuss their relative importance in the total dust budget.

A Multi-Application Controller for SAGE-enabled Tiled Display Wall in Wide-area Distributed Computing Environments

  • Due to the recent advancement of networking and high-performance computing technologies, scientists can easily access large-scale data captured by scientific measurement devices through a network, and use huge computational power harnessed on the Internet for their analyses of scientific data. However, visualization technology, which plays a role of great importance for scientists to intuitively understand the analysis results of such scientific data, is not fully utilized so that it can seamlessly benefit from recent high-performance and networking technologies. One of such visualization technologies is SAGE (Scalable Adaptive Graphics Environment), which allows people to build an arbitrarily sized tiled display wall and is expected to be applied to scientific research. In this paper, we present a multi-application controller for SAGE, which we have developed, in the hope that it will help scientists efficiently perform scientific research requiring high-performance computing and visualization. The evaluation in this paper indicates that the efficiency of completing a comparison task among multiple data is increased by our system.

'컴퓨팅 사고력(Computational thinking)' 향상과 Sage 도구를 이용한 수학교육 (Improving Computational Thinking Abilities Through the Teaching of Mathematics with Sage)

  • 최근 주요 산업 분야에서 인간 사고와 컴퓨터 능력의 통합을 의미하는 '컴퓨팅 사고력(Computational thinking)'에 대한 요구가 급격히 증가해 왔다. 이에 따라 선진국은 지난 20여년간 수학교과의 수학적 추론, 수학적 문제 해결, 수학적 의사소통을 하는 과정에 CAS(Computation Algebra System)를 활용하여 수학문제를 해결하는 방법으로 자연스럽게 학생들의 '컴퓨팅 사고력'을 향상시켜왔다. 이러한 변화에 발을 맞추어 우리나라의 2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 수학과 교육과정 교과서들도 다양한 CAS 도구에 대한 활용을 담아 '컴퓨팅 사고력'의 향상에 발을 맞추고 있다. 본 연구는 국내 외 '컴퓨팅 사고력' 기반 교육 사례를 분석하고, '컴퓨팅 사고력' 향상에 도움이 되는 CAS 도구 특히 PC 및 모바일 기기를 이용하여 언제 어디서나 무료로 사용할 수 있는 Sage 도구를 이용한 수학교육 및 수학교과목 구성에 대하여 논한다. 또 구체적인 '컴퓨팅 사고력' 기반 수학교육 모델을 설계하여 대학 수학교육현장에 활용한 내용의 보고를 통하여, 향후 수학교육을 통한 '컴퓨팅 사고력' 향상에 대한 구체적인 방안을 제시한다.

정이(程?) 성인론(聖人論)의 특징에 관한 고찰 (A study on distinctive view of Cheng I's the sage-theory)

  • 유가사상가들이 도덕과 지식의 측면에서 최고의 이상적 인간형으로 설정한 성인(聖人)은 "선천적으로 신비한 능력을 타고나는 것인가, 아니면 후천적으로 노력을 통해 그런 경지에 도달할 수 있는가?" 이 문제에 대해 논리적 정합성을 제시하는 것이야 말로 맹자 이후 유학자들의 주요 이슈였으며, 많은 사상가들은 이 문제에 대해 다양한 답변을 시도해 왔다. 일반적으로 성인은 선천적으로 타고난다는 입장과 배움(學)과 지식(知)들 통해서 성인의 경지에 이를 수 있다는 입장의 두 가지 학설이 존재한다. 유학은 어떤 학문 체계 보다 인간의 배움과 지식을 중요시한다. 사실 "논어"의 주요 내용에서 우리는 윤리 도덕적 가치의 집합인 인(仁)에 관한 대화보다 공자가 꾸준히 강조하고 제자들을 칭찬하는 용어인 배움(學)에 대한 표현이 더 많이 등장하고 있음을 확인하기도 한다. 유학 사상사적인 측면에서 볼 때 배움과 지식을 통해 성인이 될 수 있다는 견해는 공자 이후 맹자와 순자에 이르기 까지 절대적 지지를 받는 학설로 여겨진 것으로 보인다. 그러나 한당시대에 이르러 인간의 내면에 대한 세분화된 견해를 정립하는 것을 시도하게 되는데, 한유와 왕충 등의 사상가들은 '성인은 이미 선천적으로 결정된 것이지, 인간의 노력으로 도달할 수 없다'는 견해를 피력하였다. 그리고 다시 송대 성리학 시기 정이천은 이 문제에 대해 깊이 있는 논의를 제시하고, 치밀하고 자세한 설명구조를 확립하는데, 즉 선진시대 사상가들의 견해를 계승하여 '배움과 지식을 통해 그리고 인간의 노력으로 성인이 될 수 있다'는 사유를 제시한다. 성인에 대한 이런 이해 방식은 송대 성리학의 주류를 형성하게 되었으며, 주자 이후 유학사상의 핵심이론으로 자리매김하게 된다. 이 글은 유학의 기본 테제라 할 수 있는 성인과 관련된 문제에 대한 정이(程?, 1033-1107)의 사유를 정리한 것이다. 그는 기본적으로 '성인가학이지(聖人可學而至)' 즉, 배움을 통해 聖人에 도달할 수 있다는 견해를 피력하고 있으며, 이와 관련하여 태어나면서 성인인 경지에 대한 표현법인 생지(生知)와 배움과 지식을 통해 성인에 도달할 수 있다는 입장의 학지(學知), 최상의 지혜(上智)와 최악의 어리석음(下愚) 등의 용어들에 대해 구체적이고 깊이 있는 논의를 제공하고 있다. 논자는 이글에서 논제와 관련된 문제(안연, 자질과 성품의 문제, 지혜와 어리석음의 관계) 등에 대해 주로 정이천의 "유서(遺書)"의 "안자소호하학론(顔子所好何學論)"과 기타 논저 그리고 유학사상 관련 텍스트를 중심으로 성인론의 특징을 고찰하였다. 정이천이 인간은 누구나 성인이 될 수 있다는 견해를 논리와 방법론을 정립하면서 제시한 그의 학설은 송대 성리학의 주요 과제로 자리 잡게 되었으며, 주자학의 주요체계로 포함되어 오늘날 정통의 이론으로 평가받고 있다.

캐모마일, 세이지, 녹차 건분의 섭취가 노령흰쥐의 항산화능에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Dried Powders of Chamomile, Sage, and Green Tea on Antioxidative Capacity in 15-Month-Old Rats)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of chamomile, sage, and green tea intakes on anti oxidative capacity in 15-month-old rats. Dried powders of three plants were analyzed to determine the amount of total flavonoids, $\beta$-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, and dietary fibers. In order to examine the change of antioxidative capacity in old rats, forty-eight Sprague-Dawley male rats weighing 621.2$\pm$9.5 g were divided into four groups according to body weight and fed for four weeks with each experimental diet of three dried powders and control diet. Plasma and liver thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) levels and xanthine oxidase (XO) activities, erythrocyte and liver superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities and plasma vitamin A, C, E, and total carotenoids levels were measured. The total flavonoids and vitamin C contents were the highest in green tea powder. Beta-carotene and vitamin E contents were not significantly different among all three dried powders. Total dietary fiber contents also were not different among all three dried powders, but soluble dietary fiber contents of chamomile was higher than other two dried powders. Plasma TBARS level was found to be significantly lower in all the experimental groups as compared to control group. Chamomile powder group, especially, showed the lowest level among all experimental groups. Liver TBARS levels of experimental groups were also lower than that of control group and significant differences were observed in chamomile and green tea groups compared to control. Plasma XO activity of green tea group was significantly lower than control group. Liver XO activities of green tea and chamomile groups were significantly lower than control group. Erythrocyte SOD activity was not significantly different among all the groups. However, liver SOD activities of sage and green tea groups showed a significant increase as compared to control group. Plasma vitamin A level was not significantly different among all the groups. Plasma total carotenoids levels were found to be significantly higher in experimental groups as compared to control group. Plasma vitamin E level of chamomile group and vitamin C level of green tea group showed the highest level among all the groups. In conclusion, chamomile, sage, and green tea intakes had an effect on improving antioxidative capacity in 15-month-old rats. Effects of green tea and chamomile powders, especially, were higher than sage powder.

Oleoresin 향신료의 첨가가 계육 Surimi의 냉동저장중 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Oleoresin Spices on the Quality of Chicken Surimi during Frozen Storage)

  • 기계발골 노계육을 수세하여 제조한 surimi의 저장중 oleoresin 향신료 첨가효과를 구명하기 위해 실험을 실시하였다. 계육 surimi에 rosemary, thyme, sage, mace, marjoram, bay를 각각 0.2% 첨가한 후 -18$^{\circ}C$에 14주간 저장하였다. Surimi의 pH는 냉동저장중 감소하였고, 대조구에 비해 향신료 첨가구가 더 많이 감소하였다. 향신료 첨가와 상관없이 냉동저장중 명도(L*)가 감소되고 적색도(a*)와 황색도(b*)가 증가하여 저장중 색깔이 어둡고 농후해졌다. Oleoresin 향신료를 첨가하면 대조구에 비해 L*과 a*가 낮고 b*가 높았으며 첨가구별 차이도 심하였다. 이것은 향신료의 자체 색깔에 더 많음 영향을 받았을 뿐 저장중 색깔 개선에 기여하지 못하였다. 향신료 첨가구는 대조구에 비해 gel 강도가 낮았다. 냉동저장중 모든 surimi에서 지방산화가 촉진되었으며 냉동 14주에 있어서 oleoresin sage가 대조구를 기준으로 TBARS가 42%를 나타내어 가장 산화가 억제 되었다. 결론적으로 본 연구에 이용된 6종류의 oleoresin 향신료는 surimi의 냉동저장중 지방산화를 억제시켰지만, 색깔과 조직감에는 개선 효과가 없는 것으로 나타났다.
