Augmentation of antitumor activity of antitumor drugs in combination with Lactobacillus casei HY2782 (LC2782) was studied against Sarcoma-180 (S-180) and Lewis lung carcinoma (3LL). Antitumor drugs used in this study were 5-fluorouracil (5-fu) and cyclophosphamide (CP). The prolongation effect of LC2872 on the life span of mouse intraperitoneally implanted with S-180 was stronger than that of OK-432 and BCG, while the inhibitory effect of OK-432 and BCG on the growth of 3LL solid tumor was a little stronger than that of LC2782. Average survival rates of mice administrated LC2782, OK-432 and BCG were 192%, 141%, and 112%, respectively, when that of the control was 100%, Intralesional administration of 5-Fu, CP, 5-Fu+LC2782 and CP+LC2782 resulted in 93%, 69%, 99% and 73% inhibition rates against 3LL solid tumor proliferation. The combination therapy of 5-Fu or CP with LC2782 significantly prolonged the life span of S-180-inoculated ICR mice. Average survival rates of mice administrated 5-Fu and CP alone were 115% and 99%. Furthermore, survival rates of mice administrated 5-Fu and CP in combination with LC2782 were 226% and 244%, respectively.
To provide some guideline for microscrew implants, 73 patients that received a total of 180 mini- or microscrew implants were scrutinized. The overall success rate was $93.3\%$ (168 among 180 mini- or microscrew implants) and the mean period of utilization was 15.8 months. Microscrew implants in the UB group (maxillary buccal area) succeeded at a rate of $94.6\%$ (87 among 92), mini- or microscrew implants in the LB group (mandibular buccal area) succeeded $96.6\%$ of the time (56 out of 58), while microscrew implants in the UP group (maxillary palatal area) had a $100\%$ success rate (11 out of 11), and mini- or microscrew implants in the LR group (retromolar area) succeeded in $73.7\%$ of cases (14 among 19). This study might indicate that microscrew implants can be used successfully as orthodontic anchorage in daily orthodontic practice.
The inulinase gene (INU1) from Kluyveromyces marxianus NCYC2887 was overexpressed by using the GAL10 promotor in a ${\Delta}ga180$ strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The inulinase gene lacking the original signal sequence was fused in-frame to a mating factor ${\alpha}$ signal sequence for secretory expression. Use of the ${\Delta}ga180$ strain allowed for the galactose-free induction of inulinase expression using a glucose-only medium. Shake-flask cultivation in YPD medium produced 34.6 U/ml of the recombinant inulinase, which was approximately 13-fold higher than that produced by K. marxianus NCYC2887. It was found that the use of the ${\Delta}ga180$ strain improved the expression of inulinase in the recombinant S. cerevisiae in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions by about 2.9- and 1.7-fold, respectively. A 5-l fed-batch fermentation using YPD medium was performed under aerobic condition with glucose feeding, which resulted in the inulinase production of 31.7 U/ml at the $OD_{600}$ of 67. Ethanol fermentation of dried powder of Jerusalem artichoke, an inulin-rich biomass, was also performed using the recombinant S. cerevisiae expressing INU1 and K. marxianus NCYC2887. Fermentation in a 5-l scale fermentor was carried out at an aeration rate of 0.2 vvm, an agitation rate of 300 rpm, and with the pH controlled at 5.0. The temperature was maintained at $30^{\circ}C$ and $37^{\circ}C$, respectively, for the recombinant S. cerevisiae and K. marxianus. The maximum productivities of ethanol were 59.0 and 53.5 g/l, respectively.
The effects of mushrooms such as Lentinus edodes and Pleurotus ostreatus on anti-cancer activity through in vivo and in vitro experiments were powders of protein-bound polysaccharides in mushrooms were solubilized in 0, 5, 25 mg/kg saline, respectively and were used in vitro experiments. The in vivo experiments were carried out as followed: i) anti-cancer activities on Leukemia $(L_{1210})$, Hepatlicus cancer $(H_{22})$ and Sarcoma180/(S180), and ii) the effect on immune system through changes in intestine weight and the number of hemolytic plague forming cells. Protein-bound polysaccharides of all showed anti-cancer activity on $L_{1210}$ and fruit body of Lentinus edodes 25 mg/kg treatment group showed the highest inhibition rate (86%). Pleurotus ostreatus mycelial in medium of cultivate 25 mg/kg treatment. Fruid body of Lentinus edodes 25 mg/kg treatment group showed the highest inhibition rate (86% and 71%, respectively) on $H_{22}$ among them. The inhibition rates of fruit body and mycelial of Lentinus edodes 25 mg/kg treatment groups on S180 were 33.9% and 30.9%, respectively. Each samples of 50, 100, 200, $400\;{\mu}g/{\mu}L$ on in vitro cell toxicity test did not show significantly different cell death rates at P<0.05. In immune test, weights of liver and spleen were increased according to increase in conc. but were not significantly different at P<0.05. The weights of thymus were heavy in fruit body and mycelial of Lentinus edodes treatment group but were not significantly different at P<0.05. Hemolytic plague forming cells with antibody formation capability were significantly high in fruit body and mycelial of Lentinus edodes treatment samples.

This study was carried out to investigate the anti-cancer effects of Gunbibosinhangam-tang (GBHT I) and Gunbibosinhangam-tang-gamibang (GBHT II, GBHT III) on solid tumor and immune cells. The animals were divided into 4 groups ; Control, no treatment. GBHT I, treatment with GBHT itself. GBHT II, treatment with GBHT increased the quantity of Hedyotis Diffusae twice. GBHT III, treatment with GBHT increased the quantity of Hedyotis Diffusae four times. We investigated the effects of GBHT on proliferation of solid tumor cells (S-180), thymocytes, splenocytes in vitro in order to examine cytotoxicity for S-180 and immuno-stimulating activities. The experiments that is about solid tumor weight and survival rate in tumor bearing mice were performed also. As compared with the control group, treatments with GBHT II and GBHT III suppressed the proliferation of S-180 effectively. Treatments with all experimental groups accelerated the proliferation of thymocytes and splenocytes significantly. In addition, GBHT III was significantly decreased on solid tumor weight and increased on survival rate in tumor bearing mice. Based upon these results, we suggest that GBHT and GBHT-gamibang have both anti-cancer effects for S-180 and immuno-stimulating activities for thymocytes and splenocytes. Therefore, we conclude that GBHT and Hedyotis Diffusae is useful to treat the patients with cancer.

Most beta-glucans obtained from various fruit bodies of mushrooms and mushroom mycelial cultures have high-molecular weight glycoproteins, conjugated with beta-glucans. We report that isoflavone-conjugated glycolproteins (designated as gluvone) were isolated and exhibited stronger anticarcinogenic activities. Agaricus blazei mycelia (ABM) was cultured in a liquid medium containing soybean flakes for 14 days. The liquid culture was autolyzed by incubating at $53^{\circ}C$ (pH 5.5) for 3 h. A crude glycoprotein (CGP) fraction with a cytotoxic effect on a mouse ascite cancer cell line (S-180) and a human breast cancer cell line (MCF-7) was isolated from the autolyzed ABM cultures by 80% ethanol treatment. Gluvone was isolated from the CGP with Sephadex G-75 column chromatography. It exhibited a stronger anticancer effect than CGP against the S-180 cell-induced female ICR mouse ascites carcinogenesis. Gluvone with 9,400 daltons was identified as a glycoprotein conjugated with isoflavone. According to HPLC and GC analysis, in conjunction with $^1H$-NMR spectral analysis, it contained 60% carbohydrates (glucose, fructose, and ribose), 31% protein, and 2% isoflavone (daidzein and genistein), which is a novel material. These results indicate that a strong anticarcinogenic gluvone was isolated from the autolyzed product of a submerged liquid culture of ABM, suggesting that autolysis could be a useful tool to produce antitumor agents.

A hot water extract(HWE-P4) was separated from the fruit bodies of PMO-P4, and its antitumor and immunomodulatory activities against sarcoma-180 in ICR mice were investigated. The internal transcribed spacer(ITS) regions from PMO-P4 were amplified using polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and sequenced. The results revealed that PMO-P4 was belong to the Phellinus baumii. When oral administration at the dose of 160mg/kg/day in the mice until the end of the experiment with 2 week's pre-feeding of the HWE-P4, the survival rate of the mice was 152% for 50days after the inoculation of sarcoma-180 and the suppression rate of the tumor growth was 35.3%(p<0.05) for 28 days after inoculation of sarcoma-180. The HWE-P4 increased 71.4% of the CD4/CD8 ratio and 5-fold of the expression of CD25(IL-2 receptor chain) compared with the control. From these results, the antitumor activity of HWE-P4 is exerted through its immunomodulating activity on the host's immune system.

Effects of kimchi extracts on the immune response related to its antitumor activity in vitro and in vivo were investigated. The extracts of kimchi fermented for 0(fresh) and 3 weeks at $5^{\circ}C$ showed a direct cytotoxic effect on sarcoma-180 cells, tumor cells in vitro. Methanol extract(4mg/ml), MSF(methanol soluble fraction : 3mg/ml) and hexane extract(fresh : 2.0mg/ml, 3 weeks : 0.3mg/ml) of the kimchi(3 weeks, $5^{\circ}C$) markedly decreased the total numbers of sarcoma-180 cells, but not their viability. The phagocytic activity of peritoneal macrophage of mice was significantly augmented by these extracts of the kimchi compared with that of control in vitro and in vivo. These extracts also raised the phagocytic index, indicating that the number of phagocytized microbes per macrophage increased. Thus, kimchi might show a anti-tumor activity by enhancing the phagocytic cell activities.

Fly ash(FA) which is a byproduct in the coal combustion in thermal power plant contributes to pore structure densification due to pozzolanic reaction, and this leads to long-term strength development and excellent resistance to chloride penetration. In the work, compressive strength and chloride resistance in OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) and FA-based concrete are evaluated, and the relationships are investigated considering ages. For the work, 3 different W/B (Water to Binder) ratios of 37%, 42%, and 47% are prepared, and 3 substitution ratio of fly ash(0%, 30%, and 50%) are considered as well. At the age of 28 days and 180 days, test results of compressive strength, diffusion coefficients based on Tang's method, and passed charges referred to ASTM C 1202 and KS F 2711 are obtained. With increasing replacement ratio of FA and decreasing W/B, the resistances to chlorides(diffusion coefficient and passed charge) are improved, and the results at the age of 180 days decrease to only 15% level at the age of 28 days due to pozzolanic reaction in FA 50 mixture, which shows that resistance to chloride is much dependent on age effect than strength development. After 180 days, more clear linear relationships are observed between strength and resistance to chloride.

Among oil-degrading microorganisms isolated from oil-polluted industrial areas, one yeast strain showed high degradation activity of aliphatic hydrocarbons. From the analyses of 18S rRNA sequences, fatty acid, coenzyme Q system, G+C content of DNA, and biochemical characteristics, the strain was identified as Yarrowia lipolytica 180. Y. lipolytica 180 degraded 94% of aliphatic hydrocarbons in minimal salts medium containing 0.2% (v/v) of Arabian light crude oil within 3 days at 25$^{\circ}C$. Optimal growth conditions for temperature, pH, NaCl concentration, and crude oil concentration were 30$^{\circ}C$, pH 5-7, 1%, and 2% (v/v), respectively. Y. lipolytica 180 reduced surface tension when cultured on hydrocarbon substrates (1%, v/v), and the measured values of the surface tension were in the range of 51 to 57 dynes/cm. Both the cell free culture broth and cell debris of Y. lipolytica 180 were capable of emulsifying 2% (v/v) crude oil by itself. They were also capable of degrading crude oil (2%). The strain showed a cell surface hydrophobicity higher than 90%, which did not require hydrocarbon substrates for its induction. These results suggest that Y. lipolytica has high oil-degrading activity through its high emulsifying activity and cell hydrophobicity, and further indicate that the cell surface is responsible for the metabolism of aliphatic hydrocarbons.
