Earth's magnetopause separating the fast and often turbulent magnetosheath and the relatively stagnant magnetosphere provides various forms of free energy that generate low-frequency surface waves. The source mechanism of this energy includes current-driven kinetic physical processes such as magnetic reconnection on the dayside magnetopause and flux transfer events drifting along the magnetopause, and velocity shear-driven (Kelvin-Helmholtz instability) or density/pressure gradient-driven (Rayleigh-Taylor instability) magnetohydro-dynamics (MHD) instabilities. The solar wind external perturbations (impulsive transient pressure pulses or quasi-periodic dynamic pressure variations) act as seed fluctuations for the magnetopause waves and trigger ULF pulsations inside the magnetosphere via global modes or mode conversion at the magnetopause. The magnetopause waves thus play an important role in the solar wind-magnetosphere coupling, which is the key to space weather. This paper presents recent findings regarding the generation of surface waves (e.g., Kelvin-Helmholtz waves) at the Earth's magnetopause and analytic and observational studies accountable for the linking of the magnetopause waves and inner magnetospheric ULF pulsations, and the impacts of magnetopause waves on the dynamics of the magnetopause and on the inner magnetosphere.
Polarization filtering based on the multicomponent complex trace analysis method is performed to reject Rayleigh waves and to enhance S waves. To test the polarization filter, synthetic seismic data were constructed for a simple two-layer model based on the finite difference method. Rayleigh waves with elliptic motion are eliminated effectively and P and S waves with linear motions are well separated each other.

This paper describes a new method to eliminate the baseline wander for ECG based on waveform morphology analysis. This method uses the descending slope tracing waves[3] to separate the baseline wander from ECG and approximates the separated baseline wander to a corresponding approximated S-waves contour, and finally, subtracts the approximated S-waves contour from the original ECG. To verify its efficacy and validity in practical applications, this method has been applied to MIT/BIH database and compares this method with the other method employing the ascending slope tracing waves to remove a baseline from ECG[4].

Over the last 20 years, freak waves have attracted many researchers because of their unexpected behaviors and damages on offshore structures and vessels in the ocean and coastal waters. Despite many researches on the causes, mechanisms and occurrence of freak waves, we have not reached consensus on the results of the researches. This paper presents the occurrence probability of freak waves based on the analysis of wave records measured at coastal waters of Donghae harbor in the East Sea. Three freak waves were found which satisfied conditions of m and $H_S{\geq}2.5m$ and $H_m/H_S{\geq}2$. The occurrence probabilities of freak waves were estimated from extreme distributions by Mori, Rayleigh and Ahn, and found to be on the orders of O($10^{-1}$), O($10^{-2}$), and O($10^{-3}$), respectively. The occurrence probabilities of freak waves measured from waves records were estimated between O($10^{-2}$) and O($10^{-3}$), which were located between predictions by Rayleigh and Ahn's extreme probability distributions. However, we need more analysis of wave records obtained from diverse field conditions in order to verify the accuracy of the estimation of occurrence probability of freak waves.
In order to obtain more reliable data for the information on the ground, a new site Investigation method is proposed, in which seismic waves (S-waves) generated by the Swedish Ram Sounding Test (SRS) are used. It is indicated that the energy transferred from the hammer to the rod in SRS's is much more stable, compared to SPT's. A series of SRS with measurements of seismic waves at the ground surface were carried out to clarify the characteristics of seismic wave propagation in the ground. As the results of comparison between seismic S-wave amplitudes and $N_d$ (blow count for 20 cm penetration in SRS), it was found that amplitudes of S-waves generated by SRS correlate well with $N_d$. The amplitude of the S-wave is thought to be more adequate parameter for the soil strength and rigidity than $N_d$.

This study investigates the characteristics of stem waves along a vertical wall generated by obliquely incident random waves through laboratory experiments conducted in a wave basin and numerical simulations using REF/DIF S model developed by Kirby and $\ddot{O}zkan$(1994). The investigation is focused on the effect of random waves on the propagation characteristics of stem waves and the difference or similarity between monochromatic and random waves. The results of REF/DIF S model are compared with laboratory measurements and good agreements are obtained. The relative significant wave height along a wall is almost same with monochromatic condition, but the wave pattern along normal to the wall shows a significant difference.

In this paper, we propose sensibility recognition model that recognize user's sensibility using brain waves. Method to acquire quantitative data of brain waves including priority living body data or sensitivity data to recognize user's sensitivity need and pattern recognition techniques to examine closely present user's sensitivity state through next acquired brain waves becomes problem that is important. In this paper, we used pattern recognition techniques to use Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP) that is pattern recognition techniques that recognize user's sensibility state through brain waves. We measures several subject's emotion brain waves in specification space for an experiment of sensibility recognition model's which propose in this paper and we made a emotion DB by the meaning data that made of concentration or stability by the brain waves measured. The model recognizes new user's sensibility by the user's brain waves after study by sensibility recognition model which propose in this paper to emotion DB. Finally, we estimates the performance of sensibility recognition model which used brain waves as that measure the change of recognition rate by the number of subjects and a number of hidden nodes.

It is necessary to predict the ship's manoeuvrabilities in waves for its safe operations in adverse weather. At the early design stage, free-running model tests can be performed to estimate the ship's manoeuvring performance in irregular wave conditions. The wave elevations are randomly varied with times in irregular waves, large deviations of the manoeuvring performance indices are likely to occur depending on the start time of steering scenarios. In this study, a KSUPRAMAX model ship's manoeuvres in long-crested irregular waves are reproduced in the equivalent regular waves. The equivalent regular waves are searched from the energy flux relations between long-crested irregular and regular waves. But there are differences of forward speeds in the model tests, regular wave height and period are modified so that both the forward speed and the trajectory drift in regular waves are similar to those in irregular waves. In addition, low speed course-keeping tests are performed with various wave incident angles in irregular and regular waves. It is confirmed that check helms, drift angles, and speeds as well as trajectories in irregular waves are similar to those in equivalent regular waves.
Nonlinear internal waves (NLIWs) are usually generated by nonlinear process on linear internal waves (IW). Near HengChun Ridge that links Taiwan and Luzon Islands, we found that there are linear internal waves following NLIW and they travel westward at different speed, about 1.5 m/s for IW and 2.9 m/s for NLIW. This phenomenon was observed on site with ship radar and echo sounders, and later verified with thermistor chain. West of Luzon Strait, the separation of NLIW are 5 km or more, while linear internal waves are lines of wave crests at nearly equal distance that is only a few hundred meters apart. The current hypothesis is that most of the energy of internal tide forms a beam that propagates upward from the eastern shoulder of ocean ridge and later interacts with sea surface and thermocline. The interaction with thermocline generates linear internal wave that propagate along the pycnocline at about 1.5 m/s. The interaction with sea surface scatters internal wave energy downward, ensonifies the water column and generates large nonlinear waves that propagate westward at 2.9 m/s as mode 1 in a waveguide.
