  • Onycholysis is defined as a distal or distal lateral separation of the nail plate from the underlying or lateral supporting structures including nail bed, hyponychium, and lateral nail fold. Trauma, infection, psoriasis, thyrotoxicosis, and numerous drugs are common causes of onycholysis. However, there are few specific data on nail findings in Behcet's disease (BD). In this paper, we report on a 60-year-old man with BD, with no past history except BD, who developed recurrent onycholysis. The symptoms of onycholysis are considered to be recurrent depending on the activity of BD. The nail lesion showed improvement after classic treatment of BD and topical steroid ointment.

  • Purpose: Surgical reconstruction is usually indicated for type II distal clavicle fracture due to high rate of nonunion and delayed union. We report the clinical outcome of a surgical technique for type II distal clavicle fracture using Mersilen tape and K-wire. Materials and Methods: From 1999 through 2003, this technique has been used on 11 patients with type II distal clavicle fracture. The procedure consist of fracture reduction with a Mersilene tape, repair of torn coracoclavicular ligament, and K-wire fixation of the fracture fragment. All patients with at least 12 months of complete postoperative follow-up were included for functional and radiographic evaluation. We used simple X-ray and UCLA scoring system and constant scoring system for evaluation at last follow up in OPD. Results: Solid union of the fracture could be achieved at 11 weeks after operation in all patients. All patients could return to the same level of preinjury activity. Good and excellent results were obtained in all patients according to UCLA system. Conclusion: This technique was simple procedure and allowed for stable fixation with early mobilization and early return to work and sports.

  • Paracalanus parvus and P. indicus collected in Korean coastal waters were redescribed to clarify taxonomical confusion. They showed the significant morphological difference in the $2nd\~4th$ swimming legs. In P. parvus the outer distal edge of 3rd segment of exopod of $2nd\~4th$ swimming legs is not serrated. The 1st basipodite has no spinules on the surface. In P. indicus the outer distal edge of 3rd segment of exopod of End and 3rd swimming legs is serrated, while that of the 4th swimming leg is not. This species has the 1st basipodite with a lot of spinules on the surface.

  • The mesiodistal crown diameters and crown length of the permanent anterior teeth have been studied and analyzed about the mean size, S.D, S.E etcs from stone models of 100 Korean male and 74 female. From the study, the following conclusions were made : 1. Statistical differences of left and right teeth were not found in the mesio distal crown diameters and crown length of the permanent anterior teeth. 2. The mean values of mesiodistal crown diameters of permanent anterior teeth were slightly larger in male than in females and statistical differences of males and females were found in maxillary right central incisor, mandibular left canine, mandibular right lateral incisor and mandibular right canine. 3. The mean values of crown length of permanent anterior teeth were slightly larger in male than in female and statistical differences of males and females were found in mandibular left canine, mandibular right canine. 4. Mesiodistal crown diameters and crown length of maxillary left lateral incisors and right lateral incisors of female are larger than that of male.

  • Ten dogs were enrolled in this study: two healthy dogs, two obese dogs without other medical issues and six obese dogs with underlying diseases including pemphigus, chronic active hepatitis, hyperadrenocorticism, narcolepsy, otitis media and heartworm infection. Pyrosequencing of the 16S rRNA gene to explore the gut bacterial diversity revealed that distal gut bacterial communities of samples from patients with pemphigus, otitis media and narcolepsy consisted primarily of Firmicutes, while the major phylum of the distal gut bacterial communities in patients with chronic active hepatitis and hyperadrenocorticism was Fusobacteria. Proteobacteria were the dominant phylum in heartworm infected obese patients.

  • Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is common among various types of storkes; however, it is rare in young patients and patients who do not have any risk factors. In such cases, ICH is generally caused by vascular malformations, tumors, vasculitis, or drug abuse. Basal ganglia ICH is rarely related with distal lenticulostriate artery (LSA) aneurysm. Since the 1960s, a total of 29 distal LSA aneurysm cases causing ICH have been reported in the English literature. Despite of the small number of cases, various treatment methods have been attempted : surgical clipping, endovascular treatment, conservative treatment, superficial temporal artery-middle cerebral artery anastomosis, and gamma-knife radiosurgery. Here, we report two additional cases and review the literature. Thereupon, we discerned that young patients with deep ICH are in need of conventional cerebral angiography. Moreover, initial conservative treatment with follow-up cerebral angiography might be a good treatment option except for cases with a large amount of hematoma that necessitates emergency evacuation. If the LSA aneurysm still persists or enlarges on follow-up angiography, it should be treated surgically or endovascularly.
