The first and second moments of response variables for SDOF systems with hysteretic nonlinearity are obtained by a direct linearization procedure. This adaptation in the implementation of well-known statistical linearization methods, provides concise, model-independent linearization coefficients that are well-suited for numerical solution. The method may be applied to systems which incorporate any hysteresis model governed by a differential constitutive equation, and may be used for zero or non-zero mean random vibration. The implementation eliminates the effort of analytically deriving specific linearization coefficients for new hysteresis models. In doing so, the procedure of stochastic analysis is made independent from the task of physical modeling of hysteretic systems. In this study, systems with three different hysteresis models are analyzed under various zero and non-zero mean Gaussian White noise inputs. Results are shown to be in agreement with previous linearization studies and Monte Carlo Simulation.
In this a set of constitutive equation relevant to the analysis of thermo-elasto-plastic materials with phase transformation during quenching process was presented on the basis of continuum thermo-dynamic. In calculating the transient thermal stresses, temperature between coolant and specimen(SM45C) surface was determined from the heat transfer coefficient. A calculation was made for specimen with 40mm in diameter quenched in coolant from $820^{\circ}C$ and the results are as follow. Stresses at starting point of transformation always show the maximum tensile value. Reverse of stresses takes place after completion of transformation of inner part at specimen.

This paper proposes elastic-plastic constitutive relations for a composite material with two phases-inclusion and matrix phases-using a homogenization scheme. A thermodynamic framework is employed to develop non-local plasticity constitutive relations, which are specifically represented in terms of the second-order gradient terms of the internal state variables. A combined two back-stress evolution equation is also established and the degradation of the state and internal variables is expressed by continuum damage mechanics in terms of the damage factor. Then, deformation localization is analyzed; the analysis results show that the proposed model yields a wide range of shear band formation behaviors depending on the evolution of the specific internal state variables. The analysis results also show good agreement with the results of simplified Rice instability analyses.
This paper presents a study of the effect of rolling temperature, roll gap (pass height), initial specimen size and steel grades of specimens on the roll force in round-oval-round pass sequence by applying approximate method and verifications through single stand pilot rod rolling tests. The results show that the predicted roll forces are in good agreement with the experimentally measured ones. The approximate model is independent of the change of roll gap, specimen size and temperature. Thus, the generality of the prediction methodology employed in the approximate model is proven. This study also demonstrates that Shida's constitutive equation employed in the approximate model needs to be corrected somehow to be applicable for the medium and high carbon steels in a lower temperature interval (700∼900$\^{C}$).
In this study, the stresses and electric potential redistributions of a cylinder made from functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) are investigated. All the mechanical, thermal and piezoelectric properties are modeled as power-law distribution of volume fraction. Using the coupled electro-thermo-mechanical relations, strain-displacement relations, Maxwell and equilibrium equations are obtained including the time dependent creep strains. Creep strains are time, temperature and stress dependent, the closed form solution cannot be found for this constitutive differential equation. A semi-analytical method in conjunction with the Mendelson method of successive approximation is therefore proposed for this analysis. Similar to the radial stress histories, electric potentials increase with time, because the latter is induced by the former during creep deformation of the cylinder, justifying industrial application of such a material as efficient actuators and sensors.
The aim of this research is to analyze buckling and bending behavior of a sandwich Reddy beam with porous core and composite face sheets reinforced by boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) and shape memory alloy (SMA) wires resting on Vlasov's foundation. To this end, first, displacement field's equations are written based on the higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT). And also, to model the SMA wire properties, constitutive equation of Brinson is used. Then, by utilizing the principle of minimum potential energy, the governing equations are derived and also, Navier's analytical solution is applied to solve the governing equations of the sandwich beam. The effect of some important parameters such as SMA temperature, the volume fraction of SMA, the coefficient of porosity, different patterns of BNNTs and porous distributions on the behavior of buckling and bending of the sandwich beam are investigated. The obtained results show that when SMA wires are in martensite phase, the maximum deflection of the sandwich beam decreases and the critical buckling load increases significantly. Furthermore, the porosity coefficient plays an important role in the maximum deflection and the critical buckling load. It is concluded that increasing porosity coefficient, regardless of porous distribution, leads to an increase in the critical buckling load and a decrease in the maximum deflection of the sandwich beam.
Embankments on soft ground experience significant deformation during time-dependent consolidation settlement, as well as an initial undrained settlement. Since infinitesimal strain theory assumes no configuration change and minute strain during deformation, finite strain analysis is required for better prediction of geotechnical problems involving large strain and geometric change induced by imposed loadings. Updated Lagrangian formulation is developed for time-dependent consolidation combining both force equilibrium and mass conservation of fluid, and mechanical constitutive equation is written in Janumann stress rate. Numerical convergence during Newton's iteration in large deformation analysis is improved by Nagtegaal's approach of considering the effect of rotation in mechanical constitutive relationship. Numerical simulations are conducted to discuss numerical reliability and applicability of developed numerical code: deformation of cantilever beam, two-dimensional consolidation. The numerical results show that developed formulation can efficiently describe large deformation problems. Proposed formulation is expected to facilitate the upgrading of a numerical code based on infinitesimal strain theory to that based on finite strain analysis.
We consider a mathematical model which describes the quasistatic frictional contact between a piezoelectric body and an electrically conductive obstacle, the so-called foundation. A nonlinear electro-viscoelastic constitutive law is used to model the piezoelectric material. Contact is described with Signorini's conditions and a version of Coulomb's law of dry friction in which the adhesion of contact surfaces is taken into account. The evolution of the bonding field is described by a first order differential equation. We derive a variational formulation for the model, in the form of a system for the displacements, the electric potential and the adhesion. Under a smallness assumption which involves only the electrical data of the problem, we prove the existence of a unique weak solution of the model. The proof is based on arguments of time-dependent quasi-variational inequalities, differential equations and Banach's fixed point theorem.

The diffusional behavior of many non-solvents in glassy or semicrystalline polymers cannot be adequately described by a concentration-dependent form of Fick's law, especially when mass transfer is coupled with structural changes. Many mathematical models have been devised to interprete non-Fickian diffusion dominated by relaxation kinetics. In formulation of non-Fickian diffusion mathematics, therefore, the most important factor to consider is how relaxation effects can influence the governing constitutive equation and boundary conditions. That is, relaxation parameters can be accommodated by variable boundary conditions or a modified continuity equation, or both, depending on specific systems and conditions (Frish, 1980). Accoring to Astarita and Nicolais (1983), the model equations can be broadly categorized as continuous or discontinuous. Continuous model equations encompass phenomena where the structural change takes place gradually over the whole volume of the polymer sample (Crank, 1953; Long and Richman, 1961; Berens and Hopfenberg, 1978). On the other hand, discontinuous model equations deal with the phenomena where the morphological change appears to be abrupt (Li, 1984). Four mathematical models with different relaxation parameters were applied to fit the anomalous sorption data observed in fluoropolymers (PVDF, ECTFE). The fitted result for PVDF-benzene sorption data is shown in Fig. 1.
An elastomeric bushing which has been considered in this research is a device used in automotive suspension systems to reduce the forte transmitted iron the wheel to the frame of the vehicle. A bushing is modeled at a hollow cylinder which is bonded to a solid metal shaft at its inner surface and a metal sleeve at its outer surface. Lianis constitutive equation for a nonlinear viscoelastic incompressible material is used to model the elastomeric material of the bushing. It is used to derive a force-displacement relation for axial response of the bushing. The displacement dependent force relaxation function for the bushing is obtained from the ramp displacement control tests with an extrapolation method. This is compared with the exact result obtained from the step displacement control test and the results are in very good agreement.
