  • An efficient one pot multicomponent synthesis of pyrimidinone derivatives of Biginelli type is described. 4-amino-6-aryl-pyrimidine-5-carbonitrile molecules were synthesized efficiently via three-component Biginelli-type condensation of aldehyde, malononitrile, and semicarbazone as urea substituent in the presence of a catalytic amount of PEG-400 as green medium under microwave irradiation. The reactions proceeded efficiently in the presence of microwave radiation to afford the desired products in good to excellent yields. Products have been confirmed by IR, and NMR spectral analysis. All the molecules were tested for their antimicrobial activity against E. coli, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa and C. tropicalis. Some of the compounds have shown moderate to good inhibition efficiency against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The potent activity was observed against the fungal species with minimum inhibition concentration 12.5 ㎍/mL.

  • Recently, wireless power transfer (WPT) system is widely studied. WPT system is very attractive because it removes power cables from home appliances, office equipment and battery chargers for electric vehicle. However, pickup's posture affects the performance greatly. In this paper a new pickup system whose output voltage is less sensitive to its posture is proposed. The proposed pickup system is composed of three coils perpendicular to each other. A prototype is constructed and tested, and its usefulness is verified.

  • This paper proposes robot localization using Fuzzy-Extended Kalman Filter algorithm of the mobile robots equipped with least sensors. In order to improve the accuracy of the localization, we usually add the sensors or equipment. However, it increases the simulation time and expenses. This paper solves this problem using only the odometer and ultrasonic sensors to get the localization with the Fuzzy-Extended Kalman Filter algorithm method. By inputting the robot's angular velocity, sensor data variation, and residual errors into the fuzzy algorithm, we get the sensor weight factor to decide the sensor's importance. The performance of the designed method shows by the simulation and Pioneer 3-DX mobile robot test in the indoor environment.

  • The color and the installation position of the LED lamp for night voyage of the ship are changed by the purpose of it. The power dissipation occurs because a navigation light is on and off or continuously on. In addition, in case that the light is produced by operating generator in the ship, it's very inefficient except that it's on a voyage. Therefore in this dissertation, we construct auxiliary power system for the LED lamp of the ship, producing and developing a module, a panel, and a charging system using Dye-sensitize Solar Cell.

  • The present article examines the static response of multilayered magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) beam in thermal environment through finite element (FE) methods. On the basis of the minimum total potential energy principle and the coupled constitutive equations of MEE material, the FE equilibrium equations of cantilever MEE beam is derived. Maxwell's equations are considered to establish the relation between electric field and electric potential; magnetic field and magnetic potential. A simple condensation approach is employed to solve the global FE equilibrium equations. Further, numerical evaluations are made to examine the influence of different in-plane and through-thickness temperature distributions on the multiphysics response of MEE beam. A parametric study is performed to evaluate the effect of stacking sequence and different temperature profiles on the direct and derived quantities of MEE beam. It is believed that the results presented in this article serve as a benchmark for accurate design and analysis of the MEE smart structures in thermal applications.

  • A flocculating sugar tolerant yeast strain was isolated from fermenting Takju. This strain was identified as Saccharomyces cerevisiae CA-1 according to the Lodder's yeast taxonomic studies. The isolated yeast could grow in 50% glucose and in 7% ethanol in the YPD medium. It's optimal growth temperature, initial pH, shaking rate and initial glucose concentration for ethanol fermentation showed 35$\circ$C, 4.5, 150 rpm, 15%, respectively. Ethanol concentration was 63 g/l in 20% glucose after 24 hours, fermentation yield was 0.49 g-ethanol/g-glucose in 10% glucose after 24 hours and ethanol productivity was 3.09 g/l$\cdot $h in 10% glucose after 12 hours in batch fermentation. Repeated batch fermentation was possible for over 50 days and ethanol yield, ethanol productivity and substrate conversion rate were 0.39-0.50 g/g, 1.63-2.08 g/l$\cdot $h and more than 99%, respectively during these periods.

  • We observed Ultra-Long GRB 111209A using NASA's 3m InfraRed Telescope Facility (IRTF). The observation was started around 40 min later than T0 = 07:12:08 UT of Swift's BAT, lasted for 24 min. The spectrum was extracted using Spextool package. The NIR SEDs show power law distribution indicating afterglow emission from the GRB according to the fireball model with beta ~ 1.2. Also they do not show thermal emission component compared to the SED of "Christmas burst" GRB 101225A. Because there is no other NIR data with this observation epoch, this data can be compared only with TAROT-R band. It seems NIR data has the same flare which exists in R band as an optical flare.

  • Over its 30-year lifetime, UKIRT has been the world's leading telescope devoted exclusively to observations in the infrared. Its outstanding success over this period is attributable to a number of factors, foremost among which are the size (3.6m) and high quality of the mirror, the excellent site at the summit of Mauna Kea, and the deployment of unique, world-beating instrumentation. In recent years, as the UK has re-directed its investment in astronomical facilities towards ESO, UKIRT has focussed on wide-field imaging in the near infrared, and we are currently conducting a definitive programme known as the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS). In this presentation I will describe UKIRT's current capabilities, its evolving operation, opportunities for Korean participation, and possibilities for its future development.

  • The pathological features of a mass in the back skin region of an 8-year-old castrated male dog are described herein. The cut section of the tumor was white to tan with a soft multilobulated mass containing hemorrhagic and necrotic foci and a mucinous-like composition. Microscopically, the tumor was composed of a mixture of lipocytes, lipoblasts, spindle cells and stellate cells and had a myxoid background. Oil red O staining revealed that the cytoplasm of neoplastic cells contained large numbers of lipid droplets. Immunohistochemically, tumor cells were positive for vimentin and S-100 protein. The skin mass was diagnosed as myxoid liposarcoma.

  • The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) will be the world's largest and most sensitive radio telescope. It will address a wide range of fundamental questions in physics, astrophysics, cosmology and astrobiology. Australia, one of the two countries selected to host the SKA, has spent several years preparing by opening up the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory (MRO) as a uniquely radio quiet site in Western Australia, and by constructing the world's most powerful radio survey telescope, the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP). The SKA will be built in two phases. Phase I will include ASKAP, which will use novel phased-array feeds and grow to become "SKA-survey". Phase I will also include a dish array ("SKA-mid") in South Africa and a low-frequency array ("SKA-low") in Australia, and is slated for operation from about 2020. Phase II of the SKA will consist of further expansion of SKA-low and SKA-mid and is due for completion in the middle of the next decade.
