ANALYSIS OF THE STRONG INSTANCE FOR THE VECTOR DECOMPOSITION PROBLEM

  • A new hard problem called the vector decomposition problem (VDP) was recently proposed by Yoshida et al., and it was asserted that the VDP is at least as hard as the computational Diffie-Hellman problem (CDHP) under certain conditions. Kwon and Lee showed that the VDP can be solved in polynomial time in the length of the input for a certain basis even if it satisfies Yoshida's conditions. Extending our previous result, we provide the general condition of the weak instance for the VDP in this paper. However, when the VDP is practically used in cryptographic protocols, a basis of the vector space ${\nu}$ is randomly chosen and publicly known assuming that the VDP with respect to the given basis is hard for a random vector. Thus we suggest the type of strong bases on which the VDP can serve as an intractable problem in cryptographic protocols, and prove that the VDP with respect to such bases is difficult for any random vector in ${\nu}$.

The Effect of Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes on the Dipole Orientation and Piezoelectric Properties of Polymeric Nanocomposites

  • Recent studies of single wall carbon nanotube (SWNT)/polyimide nanocomposites indicate that these materials have a potential to provide the combination of structural integrity and sensing/actuation capability. This study shows the effect of the SWNT type and concentration on the dipole orientation and piezoelectric properties of the electroactive polymide nanocomposites using a thermally stimulated current (TSC) spectroscopy. These nanocomposites exhibit very thermally stable piezoelectric properties up to $150^{\circ}C$. This presentation will highlight the dipole orientation and electroactive characteristics of the SWNT/polyimide nanocomposites and discuss their potential multifunctional aerospace applications.

Single Exposure Imaging of Talbot Carpets and Resolution Characterization of Detectors for Micro- and Nano- Patterns

  • In this paper, we demonstrate a self-imaging technique that can visualize longitudinal interference patterns behind periodically-structured objects, which is often referred to as Talbot carpet. Talbot carpet is of great interest due to ever-decreasing scale of interference features. We demonstrate experimentally that Talbot carpets can be imaged in a single exposure configuration revealing a broad spectrum of multi-scale features. We have performed rigorous diffraction simulations for showing that Talbot carpet print can produce ever-decreasing structures down to limits set by mask feature sizes. This demonstrates that large-scale pattern masks may be used for direct printing of features with substantially smaller scales. This approach is also useful for characterization of image sensors and recording media.

Lens Surgeries along the n-twisted Whitehead Link

  • We determine lens surgeries (i.e. Dehn surgery yielding a lens space) along the n-twisted Whitehead link. To do so, we first give necessary conditions to yield a lens space from the Alexander polynomial of the link as: (1) n = 1 (i.e. the Whitehead link), and (2) one of surgery coefficients is 1, 2 or 3. Our interests are not only lens surgery itself but also how to apply the Alexander polynomial for this kind of problems.

Photoluminescence Characterization of Vertically Coupled Low Density InGaAs Quantum Dots for the application to Quantum Information Processing Devices

  • Vertically coupled low density InGaAs quantum dots (QDs) buried in GaAs matrix were grown with migration enhanced molecular beam epitaxy method as a candidate for quantum information processing devices. We performed excitation power-dependent photoluminescence measurements at cryogenic temperature to analyze the effects of vertical coupling according to the variation in thickness of spacer layer. The more intense coupling effects were observed with the thinner spacer layer, which modified emission properties of QDs significantly. The low surface density of QDs was observed by atomic force microscopy, and scanning transmission electron microscopy verified the successful vertical coupling between low density QDs.

Isolation of the Threonine Dehydratase Gene from a Tylosin-Producing Strain of Streptomyces fradiae

  • From the plasmid library made from Sstl and San-digested genomic DNA of Streptomyces fradiae NRRL 2702, four positive clones were selected using an oligodeoxynucleotide probe from the N-terminal amino acid sequence of purified threonine dehydratase. The cloned gene for threonine dehydratase was a 2.0 kilo-base pair DNA fragment. The deduced amino acid sequence of PCR product (PCR245) was matched to that of the N-terminal part of threonine dehydratase from S. fradiae and this showed a high similarity to the threonine dehydratases of other organisms. This indicated that amino acid sequences of threonine dehydratases were highly conserved and the polypeptide product of the PCR245 was likely to be involved in the deamination of threonine.

부모역할만족도와 양육태도에 관한 연구 (A Study of Parental Satisfaction and Child-Rearing Practices)

  • The purpose of this study was examine what extent fathers and mothers direr in their parental satisfaction and child-rearing practices, to identify the variables which were related to the parental satisfaction and child-rearing practices, and to investigate the relationships between parental satisfaction and child-rearing practices. The subjects for this study consisted of 245 fathers and 245 mothers of kindergarten children. Descriptive analysis, Cronbach's $\alpha$, t-tests, and correlations were used for data description and analysis. Results were as follows: $\circled{1}$ Paternal child-rearing practices were somewhat differed from maternal child-rearing practices, but parental satisfaction was not differed between fathers and mothers. $\circled{2}$ Factors contributed to patern satisfaction and child-rearing practices were somewhat differed from maternal satisfaction and child-rearing practices. $\circled{3}$ For both fathers and mothers, higher parental satisfaction was positively related to more reasoning guidance, affection, goal-oriented attitude, parental involvement, consistent nile-enforcement, and less authoritarian control.

  • This paper proposes a constrained multi-area dispatch scheduling algorithm applicable to interconnected power system operations. The dispatch scheduling formulated as an MIP problem can be efficiently computed by GBD algorithm. GBD guarantees adequate computation speed and solution convergence by reducing the dimension of the dispatch scheduling problem. In addition, the regional decomposition technique based on ADM is introduced to obtain efficient inter-temporal OPF solution. It can find the most economic dispatch schedule incorporating power transactions without each regional utility's private information open.

무선 체감온도 측정 시스템 개발 (Development of wireless wind chill temperature measurement system)

  • The paper presents the wireless wind chill temperature measurement system that is composed of IEEE 802.15.4 standard wireless communication devices, hot film anemometer and serial communication temperature sensor. It's sometimes very difficult for a person, who lives in a high-rise apartment, to see the outside wind chill temperature due to harsh outside weather. The wind chill temperature is calibrated from an air velocity and air temperature. IEEE 802.15.4 standard wireless communication is ZigBee compatible, and consumes low power in communication. Under the air temperature of 5 $^{\circ}C$ and air velocity ranging from 0 to 50 km/h, the experimental result of wind chill temperature shows good accuracy within 5%.

  • The present investigation deals, Dufour and heat source effects on radiative MHD slip flow of a viscous fluid in a parallel porous plate channel in presence of chemical reaction. The non-linear coupled partial differential equations are solved by using two term perturbation technique subject to physically appropriate boundary conditions. The numerical values of the fluid velocity, temperature and concentration are displayed graphically whereas those of shear stress, rate of heat transfer and rate of mass transfer at the plate are presented in tabular form for various values of pertinent flow parameters. By increasing the slip parameter at the cold wall the velocity increases whereas the effect is totally reversed in the case of shear stress at the cold wall. It is observed that the effect of Dufour and heat source parameters decreases the velocity and temperature profiles.
