  • The consumption in the clothing's living has been diversified and rich by the increase in pay, the ostentatious propensity to consume and the diversification of distribution on structure in accordance with the advance of clothing industries, etc. The clothing, however, was not used properly due to the thoughtless purchase, the sudden change of fashion and the difficulty in the use and management of clothing. Most rural communities, furthermore, have the poor market, and the unreasonable management could be often observed, e.g., some people don't follow the care label or burn the clothing to waste. This study was conducted to provide the tool measuring the standardized clothing management behaviors so that the systematic and effective instruction could be achieved to improve the living standards 623 rural and urban housewives to develop the tool measuring the standardized clothing management to compare and measure the effect of before and after the education and guide all the way. And then, we developed the standardized measurement tool consisting of 6 parts of 60 questions after analyzing the validation and reliability of the questions. As a result of analyzing the validation and reliability of the developed tool, each Conbach alpha value of clothing living showed the good reliability; the value of the purchase plan was 0.76, the purchase was 0.83, the wear was 0.80, the management was 0.84, the storage was 0.83, and the disposal was 0.74, which indicated that it was able to use as a standardized tool.

  • The objectives of this study were to develop a system linking hydrologic and water quality models considering the mechanisms of agricultural reservoir and paddy cultivation and to evaluate whether the developed system simulates hydrologic and water quality processes better than a hydrologic model that do not consider the mechanisms. The system consisted of Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran (HSPF) as a watershed model, Module-based hydrologic Analysis System for Agricultural watersheds (MASA) as reservoir water balance model, and Chemical, Runoff and Erosion from Agricultural Management System-Paddy (CREAMS-PADDY) as a hydrologic and water quality model for paddy fields. This study carried out on the Seolseong-Cheon watershed in Icheon, and the water level and water quality had been monitored for two years at the outlet of the watershed. According to the results of this study, the performance of the simulation using HSPF-MASA-CREAMS-PADDY system was better than others, but they did not show a statistically significant difference. This seemed to be due to the uncertainty of the farming data and the water quality data of the reservoir. Therefore, if accurate input data for the system is obtained, HSPF-MASA-CREAMS-PADDY system could be used to model an agricultural watershed to obtain more realistic results. The results of this study could be utilized to the modeling of agricultural watersheds in Korea where paddy rice cultivation is dominant.

  • Converting the agricultural land-use of rice field to upland has been increasingly conducted as farmers encourages themselves to grow higher value-added crops on rice fields under the policy support. Comparing to rice field, Upland shows different characteristic of discharge due to the slope, scale, and shape of field and characteristics of rainfall event. In this study, we designed the experiment fields reflecting flat-upland characteristics with different land scale, and tried to collect the discharge and load data. Soybeans and corn were selected as target crops considering the possibility of large-scale cultivation and crop demand. The cultivation was conducted during the growth period in 2019 with 3 different field scales. Hence, we have collected the discharge data from 17 rainfall events and the load data for 8 rainfall events. As a result, the magnitude of rainfall events and the discharge duration were found to have a strong positive correlation and field discharge occurred during the period by 55% to 83% of rainfall duration. Besides we found other relationships and characteristics of rainfall event, discharge, and pollutant load and also pointed out that continuous monitoring and more data are required to derive statistically significant results. Compared with slope-field monitoring data obtained from the precedent research, the runoff ratio of the flat-fields was significantly lower than slope-fields. Overall the discharge in the slop and flat-fields shows appreciably different characteristics so that the related researches need to be further conducted to reasonably assess environmental impact of agricultural activities at flat-field.

  • This study intended to enhance the quality of life of rural adolescents through survey 185 young people in YeonChun County, in the course of measuring the level of life of adolescents and finding several variables related with the level and drawing some applications for enhancement. As a result of this study we had some findings 1) the most young people were belonging to the second (vital feeling value) level and third (mental value) level 2) Sex, religion, tendency oriented to other person were three related variables with the level. The more the people having other-oriented tendency the higher the level of value. Female, Christian is higher in the level. 3) Many adolescents showed little hearty satisfaction concering their own life 4) The level of act in their real life were corresponded with the level of value 5) Characteristics of high value-level adolescents against low value-level ones were that they had high level of value-recognition, less family member. The hit ratio was 83.7 percent. On the basis of this study the following suggestions for the improvement of quality of life for youth in the rural area in the future. First, we should make a great effort in value education in order to clearly get the goal of the true life. The quality improvement such as the education of mental life and religion for the young people by developing programs to continously improve the value of life. Second, the necessity of behavior guiding other oriented tendency should be emphasized. We should connect adolescents with value recognition through more interest in actions. And third, it is necessary to make a professional effort for the improvement of level of value, that is, an in depth study of the theoretical systemization.

  • Objectives: We used participatory mapping as a tool for empowerment training for promoting health and safety of farmers. We would like to introduce the application of participatory mapping method and report our experiences in a rural community in Korea. Methods: A one-day workshop was offered in six rural villages which were designated as 'safe farm zones'. Each workshop started with an orientation session, followed by a village rounding, presentations of best cases, a group exercise to draw and present a healthy village map. Participants were requested to express their ideas and experiences about healthy and safe residential and working environments on their map. Results: A total of 206 farmers(100 male, 106 female) participated in the workshops. In each workshop, an average of 34.3 farmers participated, and their mean age was 59 years. In the six workshops, the participants proposed a total of 137 action plans. The action plans included improvement of co-working condition, building facilities for recreation, improving traffic safety measures, and improving residential environment. Conclusions: Participatory mapping was successfully developed and applied as a tool for empowering Korean farmers. The participants were able to express their ideas and thoughts about healthy and safe village and action plans on the map. Moreover, some of the actions in the action plans were carried out immediately after workshop.

  • The study aimed to project inflows and demmands for the agricultural reservoir watersheds in South Korea considering a variety of regional characteristics and the uncertainty of future climate information. The study bias-corrected and spatially downscaled retrospective daily Global Climate Model (GCM) outputs under Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) 4.5 and 8.5 emission scenarios using non-parametric quantile mapping method to force Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model. Using the historical simulation, the skills of un-calibrated SWAT model (without calibration process) was evaluated for 5 reservoir watersheds (selected as well-monitored representatives). The study then, evaluated the performance of 9 GCMs in reproducing historical upstream inflow and irrigation demand at the five representative reservoirs. Finally future inflows and demands for 58 watersheds were projected using 9 GCMs projections under the two RCP scenarios. We demonstrated that (1) un-calibrated SWAT model is likely applicable to agricultural watershed, (2) the uncertainty of future climate information from different GCMs is significant, (3) multi-model ensemble (MME) shows comparatively resonable skills in reproducing water balances over the study area. The results of projection under the RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 scenario generally showed the increase of inflow by 9.4% and 10.8% and demand by 1.4% and 1.7%, respectively. More importantly, the results for different seasons and reservoirs varied considerably in the impacts of climate change.

  • This study aimed at analyzing the economic effect of outdoor swimming pool investment using the reservoir's amenity resources. We focused on the identification of the amenity value of reservoir in the rural area and the economic evaluation for establishing This study aimed at analyzing the economic effect of outdoor swimming pool investment using the reservoir's amenity resources. We focused on the identification of the amenity value of reservoir in the rural area and the economic evaluation for establishing infrastructure such as swimming pool based on the reservoir's landscape value. To this end, we have conducted the case study on the outdoor swimming pool in connection with Go-Bok reservoir in Yeon-Gi county, Chungnam Province and estimated its income effect on the rural community by cost-benefit analysis method. The research results are as follows; 1) Outdoor swimming pool participants, with 11,581 visitors totaled to Yeon-gi county every year, was estimated to spend the worth of 58,446 thousand won paid for the agricultural product purchase and etc. 2) Internal rate return of the outdoor swimming pool project was estimated to 16.19%, which considered to be economically feasible comparing with 10% of current capital opportunity cost. Based on the results of this study, we suggest the following strategies for development of amenity value of swimming pool in connected with the reservoir; 1) Reservoir amenities should be well preserved even after construction of swimming pool lest losing amenity values while managing the facilities. 2) Measures to increase the marketing value of intangible reservoir's amenities through promotion should be established. 3) Effective program for more visitors with longer staying and more agricultural products sales should be designed.

  • Many primary schools that have been an important role in the community at the same time local important facility not only local area but also all area in Korea have shown a situation for closing and into grating a school because of a social and political measure. The education policy for man power training and closing policy for small scale school not more than 100 students can't role in the rural development policy, coming farming and fishing villages. The reasons for thinking some application paradigm and closing schools have been important role in the point of education and culture parts. Of course, the application paradigm for closing school facility will get accomplished for a mood of local residents and a point of cultural deference, not keeping up unconditionally for closing a school. For accomplishing versatile purposes, initiative role of the organs of local education is very important. The organs of local education have an application paradigm that closing schools are the facilities for local organs of education will plan some specific facility to be matched for local special quality and connection quality of surrounding facility and environment. Before an application paradigm of closing school, it is very important that a fundamental factor for negligence the facility will be solved. Eventually, the organs of education have a plan for technical study of this paradigm and consider keeping and mending of closing facility, rent the facility for payment or not they want, and confer money problem not an unconditional scale.
