  • This study aims to develop useful programs, which would promote the economic activities of rural elderly and their living standard as the silver population is growing in the society, to present the direction of policy related to the elderly for governmental agencies, and make it available as data that can be accessed by civil servants, in charge of elderly-related matters and currently serving at city office and municipal and county agricultural technique center, so that they can provide education to the elderly. For this, first, the economic condition of the rural elderly and their requirements have to be diagnosed. Second, we developed a program that specially aimed at improving their economic activities. To develop of program, a survey questionnaire was administered with the 881 elderly over 60 years old who live in 110 rural villages. Face to face interview was carried out by professional interviewer. The result was once posted in the 2nd issue of volume 14th of this journal in 2004 with the title of "Study of the rural elderly's activities and needs of economics." Based on such result of study, we developed the program to provide jobs to the rural elderly that are suitable for them. 2 types programs, which differ from each other depending on the subject of implementing the welfare of the elderly, were developed: first, "program to create jobs for rural elderly at the policy supporting level, which requires the government to drive forward, and second, 'program to provide education to rural elderly at the social level' to foster them as competent human resources."

  • Phytophthora root and stem rot (PRR), caused by Phytophthora sojae, can occur at any growth stage under poorly drained and humid conditions. The expansion of soybean cultivation in South Korean paddy fields has increased the frequency of PRR outbreaks. This study aimed to identify four P. sojae isolates newly collected from domestic fields and evaluate race-specific resistance using the hypocotyl inoculation technique. The four isolates exhibited various pathotypes, with GJ3053 exhibiting the highest virulence complexity. Two isolates, GJ3053 and AD3617, were screened from 205 soybeans, and 182 and 190 genotypes (88.8 and 92.7%, respectively) were susceptible to each isolate. Among these accessions, five genotypes resistant to both isolates were selected. These promising genotypes are candidates for the development of resistant soybean cultivars that can effectively control PRR through gene stacking.

  • In 2010, symptoms of leaf and stem rot were observed on potted plants (Peperomia quadrangularis) in a greenhouse in Yongin, Korea. The causative pathogen was identified as Myrothecium roridum based on morphological data, internal transcribed spacer sequence analysis, and pathogenicity test. To our knowledge, this is the first report of M. roridum causing leaf and stem rot disease on P. quadrangularis in Korea and elsewhere worldwide.

  • This study is intended to examine the perception of importance-satisfaction in selective properties of rural theme park with the users and to suggest operation method and implications for rural theme parks which are being built on a nation-wide basis. The study results are as follows: First, the results from the analysis on importance-satisfaction in the selective properties showed that both attractiveness of natural landscape and excellence of surrounding environment are high. Second, the t-test with matched samples for importance-satisfaction showed that there were significant statistical differences in all items, and the users rated satisfaction lower than the importance. Third, IPA results showed that the items such as diversity of festival event, accessibility and convenience of public transportation, appropriateness of expense and kindness in service appeared in the 2nd quadrant 'direction of concentrated efforts'Therefore, this study was able to identify the perception of importance-satisfaction among the users of rural theme parks. The study findings suggest that it is necessary to preserve surrounding natural environment, ensure appropriate pricing, introduce events and increase service level in constructing and operating rural theme parks.

  • The soybean (Glycine max(L.) Merrill), an important food crop in the world, is popular because of its high quality protein and oil content. Soybeans as a food have long been known for their beneficial effects on health and are well-recognized globally. Isoflavones, significant soybean secondary metabolic products, may be crucial in avoiding some cancers and lowering the risk of cardiovascular disorders. This study investigates the correlation between plant growth regulator and the effect on the isoflavone levels in soybean leaves. The study was carried out in the green-house of the southern crop department in miryang. Soybeans(Seonpung) were cultivated in 1/2000 of the Wagner pot. Ethephon(500, 1000, 2000 ppm) and ABA(100, 200, 400 ppm) were used as plant growth regulators, and they were each treated on R2, R5, and R7 stage. After treatment, leaves were sampled three times at intervals of 5 days, and the content of 6 isoflavones and coumestrol was analyzed. Soybean isoflavones were analyzed using Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (Acquity UPLC H-Class system, Waters). The isoflavones content showed an overall highly in the R5 stage, and the level was similar to that of no treatment in the R2 and R7 stage. The difference between the growth regulators was found to be higher than that of ethephon when ABA was treated. The coumestrol content was confirmed to be high in the order of R7, R5, and R2 on the treatment time, and it was found that the content increased as the treatment time was delayed. In the treatment with the growth regulator, the coumestrol content tended to be higher when ethephon was treated than ABA.

As a result, users has the speciality in the neighborhood park in industry complex. Break area or facilities for the workers should be installed. Not end once installed, but continually improved and more efficient management of park facilities will be made. Also, importance of facilities analysis has the higher in normal or importance. Management and cleanliness is especially higher in importance. Importance for the overall facility was affecting in order the facility design, management, safety, installation number.

  • In-migration has long been recognized as on important factor in rural development. Its impact can be expected to increase even further as the elderly population continues to grow. Recently with the retirement of baby boomers, postretirement moves have become increasingly important issue in rural Korea. Because the consequences of rural in-migration are often most pronounced at the local or regional level, rural planners are among the many scholars and practitioners seeking to understand the patterns and consequences of in-migration. At the same time, however, planners have sometimes overlooked basic research on the causes and determinants of mobility, and on the relationships between retirement migration and other socioeconomic processes. The papers aims to explore the reviews of rural in-migration studies and its practical implications, providing an interdisciplinary review of the most important studies published between 1990-2009. Through the literature review of in-migration, this study suggests that main arguments for rural in-imgration studies such as rural populations, counterurbanization, rural businesses incubator and rural amenity be emphasized to vitalize and diversify rural economies.
