  • In this study, numerical simulations for a single fixed truncated circular cylinder in regular waves were conducted to investigate the nonlinear wave run-up under various dampers and wave period conditions. The present study used the volume of fluid (VOF) technique to capture the air-water interface. The unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) equation with the k- 𝜖 turbulence model was solved using the commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software STAR-CCM+. First, a systematic spatial convergence study was conducted to assess the performance and precision of the present numerical wave tank. The numerical scheme was validated by comparing the numerical results of wave run-up on a bare truncated cylinder with the experimental results, and a good agreement was achieved. Then, a series of parametric studies were carried out to examine the wave run-up time series around the truncated cylinder with single and dual dampers in terms of the first- and second-order harmonic and mean set-up components. Additionally, the local wave field and the flow velocity vectors adjacent to the cylinder were evaluated. It was confirmed that under short wave conditions, the high position of the damper led to a noticeable increase in the wave run-ups with significant changes in the first- and second-order harmonic components.

  • Considering the run-out effect and cutting force coefficients, the cutting force profile of half immersion end-milling was analyzed in detail. The effects of three specific cutting-force coefficients and three edge-force coefficients are verified. Through a detailed investigation, it is proved that the radial cutting force coefficients and are the major factors which increase the cutting forces Fx and Fy in end-milling. However, the axial cutting force coefficients have no influence on the force Fx and Fy changes in end-milling. Also, the analyzed end-milling force model shows good consistency with the actual measured force with regard to Fx and Fy. Thus, this model can be used for the prediction of the force history in end-milling with run-out, and it incurs a different force history with different start and exit immersion angles as well as holding effects.

  • By using thermal desorption/gas chromatograph/flame ionization detector(TD/GC/FID), this study was carried out to evalute an accuracy and a precision on Benzene(B), Toluene(T), o-Xylene(X) analysis in an industrial hygiene laboratory. Limits of detection of TD/GC/FID on B, T, X were showed 13.75ng/sample or less. For the accuracy of the method by concentration levels, overall bias was showed 7.7% as an absolute value, and the pooled coefficient of variation showed 3.51%. For the precision on repeatability of peak area and retention time between within-run and between-run of analytical system, it is showed the results of within-run gave better than those of between-run. Also the accuracy by sorbents(Tenax TA and Chromosorb 106)was evaluated, and the precision on reproducibility between MDHS72 and this study was compared. It is showed it is possible for TD/GC/FID to evaluate accurately B, T, X concentration levels of less than 1ppm at indoor or outdoor of workplaces in Korea.

  • The bounded adjustment is known to be more efficient than repeated adjustment when the cost is incurred for engineering process control. The procedure of the bounded adjustment is to adjust the process when the one-step predicted deviation exceeds the adjustment limit by the amount of the prediction. In this paper, two run rules are proposed and studied in order to improve the efficiency of the traditional bounded adjustment procedure. The efficiency is studied in terms of the standardized cost through Monte Carlo simulation when the procedure is operated with and without the run rules. The adjustment procedure operated with run rules turns out to be more robust for changes in the process and cost parameters. The Markov chain approach for calculating the properties of the run rules is also studied.

  • In this study, the effects on hydraulic characteristics are discussed as the permeable underlayer width of the rubble mound structure changes. A series of hydraulic experiments were performed and wave run-up, reflection and set-up were investigated. Results indicated that wave run-down was affected by the water out from the permeable underlayer during down-rush. As the width increased, relative wave run-up decreased.

  • In order to study the problem on form factor of hull form, towing test of a full ship model was carried out for different initial trims under both full and half load conditions. The results were fully discussed on the mutual relations among initial trim, mean sinkage and trim change in run, and form factor. There exists optimum initial trim in regard to form factor. Mean sinkage and trim change in run can be expressed in a uninominal approximation in the form of $k_i{\cdot}{F_n}^{2.2}$. The coefficients of this approxmation are related linearly with the initial trim. Form factor changes according to Froude number. It is considered that the trim change in run is a main reason of the fact.

  • This paper presents an simulation methdology for determining an economical running pattern for a high speed train which minimizes energy consumption under an given trip time margin. The economical running pattern is defined with an economical maximum speed in traction phase, a speed at the end of coasting and a speed at the end of regenerative braking alone in braking phase. An economical run for subways is also described. As a case study, the simulation is carried out fer an economical run of high speed NamSeoul-Pusan line, and the results described. To do this, train performance simulation program is built and extended to be able to find an economical running pattern and then to simulate the defined economical run.

  • In monitoring a process, in-control process parameters must be estimated from the Phase I data. When we design the control chart based on the estimated process parameters, the control limits are usually chosen to satisfy a specific in-control average run length (ARL). However, as the run length distribution is skewed when the process is either in-control or out-of-control, the median run length (MRL) can be used as alternative measure instead of the ARL. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of Shewhart $\bar{X}$ chart with estimated parameters in terms of the average of median run length (AMRL) and the standard deviation of MRL (SDMRL) metrics. In simualtion study, the grand sample mean is used as a process mean estimator, and several competing process standard deviation estimators are used to evaluate the in-control performance for various amounts of Phase I data.

  • Run-Out-Table is the region between EDT and CT. Hot killed strip is cooled by air and water in ROT. In this procedure, phase transformation and shape deformation occur due to temperature drop. Because of un-ideal cooling condition, deformation of strip and non-uniform phase distribution come into existence. This phenomenon affects the strip property and lead th the existence of residual stress. And it exerts effects on the Coiling process, Coil Cooling process, and Un-coiling process. Through these process, the residual stresses of strip are more larger and unbalance of these stresses become more severe. Finite element (FE) based models for the analysises of non-steady state heat transfer and elastoplastic deformation are described in this investigation. The analysises of thermodynamics and phase transformation kinetics are suggested also. Using the ROT simulation result coiling process and coil cooling process simulations are carried out.
