  • In this paper, numerical integration method using operational matrix of integration is studied. Using the operational matrix of integration, modified fixed point iteration method is introduced in order to solve rapidly an initial value problem for non-linear equation of motion. As an example, an initial value problem for orbital motion is considered. Through the numerical example, it is shown that the algorithm is efficient from the computational time point of view.

  • Since the electromagnetic properties of fiber reinforced polymeric composites can be tailored effectively by adding small amount of electromagnetic powders to the matrix of composites, they are plausible materials for fabricating the radar absorbing structures (RAS) of desired performance. In order to design the effective electromagnetic wave (EM) absorber with the fiber reinforced polymeric composites, the electromagnetic characteristics with respect to the constituents of the composite should be available in the target frequency band. In order to describe the dielectric behavior of low loss unidirectional fiber reinforced composite, theoretical models and mixture equations for estimating its dielectric constant were proposed with respect to the fiber, matrix volume fractions and fiber orientations, and verified by the experiments. From the investigation, it was found that the suggested binary mixture rules agreed well with the experimental results.

  • Piezoelectric Fiber Composites with Interdigitated Electrodes (PFCIDE) were previously introduced as an alternative to monolithic wafers with conventional electrodes for applications of structural actuation. This paper is an investigation into the performance improvement of piezoelectric fiber composite actuators by changing the matrix material. This paper presents a modified micro-electromechanical model and numerical analyses of piezoelectric fiber/piezopolymer matrix composite actuator with interdigitated electrodes (PFPMIDE). Various concepts from different backgrounds including three-dimensional linear elastic and dielectric theories have been incorporated into the present linear piezoelectric model. The rule of mixture and the modified method to calculate effective properties of fiber composites were extended to apply to the PFPMIDE model. The new model was validated when compared with available experimental data and other analytical results. To see the structural responses of a composite plate integrated with the PFPMIDE, three-dimensional finite element formulations were derived. Numerical analyses show that the shape of the graphite/epoxy composite plate with the PFPMIDE may be controlled by judicious choice of voltages, piezoelectric fiber angles, and elastic tailoring of the composite plate.

  • Nonnegative tensor factorization(NTF) is a recent multiway(multilineal) extension of nonnegative matrix factorization(NMF), where nonnegativity constraints are imposed on the CANDECOMP/PARAFAC model. In this paper we consider the Tucker model with nonnegativity constraints and develop a new tensor factorization method, referred to as nonnegative Tucker decomposition (NTD). We derive multiplicative updating algorithms for various discrepancy measures: least square error function, I-divergence, and $\alpha$-divergence.

  • A new type geometric and mathematical network reduction model is introduced. Large-scale network is analyzed with analytic approach. The graph has many nodes, branches and loops. Circuit equation are obtained from these elements and connection rule. In this paper, the analytic relation between voltage source has a mutual different graphic property. Node-reduction procedure is achieved with this circuit property. Consequently voltage source value is included into the adjacent node-analyzing equation. A resultant model equations are reduced as much as voltage source number. Matrix rank is (n-1-k), where n, k is node and voltage source number. The reduction procedure is described and verified with geometric principle and circuit theory. Matrix type circuit equation can be composed with this technique. The last results shall be calculated by using computer.

  • In this paper, it will be assumed that there are two distinct populations which are multivariate normal with equal covariance matrix. We also assume that the two populations are equally likely and the costs of misclassification are equal. The classification rule depends on the situation when the training samples include missing values or not. We consider the bootstrap confidence intervals for classification error rate when a block of observation is missing.

  • The fuzzy logic controller which can be applied to various industrial processes is quite often dependent on the heuristics of the experienced operator. The operator's knowledge is often uncertain. Therefore an incorrect control rule on the basis of the operator's information is a cause of bad performance of the system. This paper proposes a new self-learning fuzzy control method by the fuzzy system identification using the data pairs of input and output and arbitrary initial relation matrix. The position control of a DC servo motor model is simulated to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • This article studies a modified BFGS algorithm for solving smooth unconstrained strongly convex minimization problem. The modified BFGS method is based on the new quasi-Newton equation $B_k+1{^s}_k=yk\;where\;y_k^*=yk+A_ks_k\;and\;A_k$ is a matrix. Wei, Li and Qi [WLQ] have proven that the average performance of two of those algorithms is better than that of the classical one. In this paper, we prove the global convergence of these algorithms associated to a general line search rule.
