  • The friction and wear of tire determined by frictional behavior of tire tread that translate driving force, cornering force and braking force between automobile and road as a result of frictional behavior of each tread block. The tire tread block is representative case of rubber block doing frictional behavior. In this paper, frictional behavior of rubber block under compressive force and shear force was analytically obtained by using slip starting position parameter instead of friction coefficient which is uncertain to express exact value between rubber and other surfaces yet. And local coefficients of friction were calculated as a function of compressive force, shear force, shear modulus of rubber, shape factor and slip starting position.

  • The analysis of the frictional energy of the rubber block with contact to the surface is necessary to study the wear for rubber. It is important to define the relationship of the frictional energy and wear, as the most theory of the wear of rubber product is based on the frictional energy of rubber block. To predict the life of the rubber block, the most of research has been focused on the use of the finite element analysis or the actual experiments which need the many time and expensive costs. Therefore, this research is achieved the successful results of the analysis to the frictional energy by analytic method. This frictional energy is function of the material properties, the shape of block, the vertical and horizontal load and the block moving speed. The analytical results are compared with the test results of this paper which can be used for the analysis of the friction behavior for the wear estimation of the rubber products.

  • In this study this writer carried out survey and analysis on paving materials of children's playground for 40 apartment buildings with each of such apartment containing 100 households or more and which were built within last 15 years in Jeonju. As a result of analysis of such questionnaires this author could draw following conclusion. In the second half of 1990s pavement materials which were used mainly were sand and during first half of 2000s they were mixture of sand and rubber block and around 2010 they were rubber block or rubber chip pavements. Such change seemed to be a result of consideration of convenience for management and safety rather than in deference to diversity of children's outing places. Survey on the current status of pavement materials revealed need for directives by the main entity for management and their firm resolve for its implementation. And there was need for their coping with problems such as pressure of treading or lack of it or poor condition of drainage in case of sand and phenomena of pitting or dipping down, discoloring and poor drainage in case of rubber chips and rubber blocks and loosening of gaps between rubber blocks etc. Result of analysing status of usage disclosed that 50.4% of the respondents to questionnaires stated that they had experience of accidents. With regard to cause of such accident it was found that 47.5% of accidents were attributable to play facilities and 19.5% were due to paving (floor) materials thus it was disclosed that not only play facilities but also pavement materials had impact on safety for the children. Result of analysing level of satisfaction with pavement materials showed that pavement by rubber chips and blocks had higher level of satisfaction which was reflection of fear on cleanness of sand. In terms of preference rubber chip and rubber block pavements were highest and the next one was sand. Reason for such preference was based on concern with safety.

  • The morphology and mechanical properties of the blends of a syndiotactic polystyrene (SPS) and poly-styrene-block-poly(ethylene-co-butylene)-block-polystyrene copolymers (SEBS) with various polystyrene block contents are studied. Mechanical properties, especially elongation at break and impact strength (IS), of the blend depend upon the morphology and interfacial adhesion, which in rum are affected by the viscosity ratio of constituent components and the styrene block content in SEBS. The IS of a blend was affected by the combined effect of rubber content and the interfacial adhesion. A maximum IS was found for a blend with the weight fraction of the PS block in an SEBS of 0.18. The IS of blends with smaller weight fractions of the PS block exhibited lower due to poor interfacial adhesion between SPS/SEBS in spite of a larger amount of rubber block. On the other hand, the IS of blends with larger weight fraction of the PS block becomes smaller due to lower amounts of rubber block in spite of better interfacial adhesion.

  • This paper investigates the utilization of waste tyre crumb rubber as the fine aggregate in precast concrete Paving block (PCPB). PCPB's are generally preferred for city roads, pedestrian crosswalk, parking lots and bus terminals. The main aim of this paper is to evaluate the mechanical properties of wet cast PCPB containing waste tyre crumb rubber. The mechanical properties were investigated using a density, compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength tests at 7, 28 56 days according to the IS 15688:2006 and EN1338. The wet cast method was followed for producing PCPB samples. The fine aggregate (river sand) was replaced with waste tyre crumb in percentage of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% by volume. All the test results were compared with the conventional PCPB (Without rubber). The test results indicate its feasibility for incorporating waste tyre crumb rubber in the production of PCPB by the wet cast method.

  • The rubber side could be contaminated using the existing pulse echo method because the ultrasonic wave was incident on the rubber side from the interior of the steel motor case, which could lead to the critical disbond defect. To develop the test method which can be replaced the existing method, the ultrasonic wave was incident on steel face of the steel/rubber adhesive test block. Rubber resonance frequencies measured from the steel/rubber adhesive test block were in good agreement with theoretically predicted rubber resonance frequencies. This paper was described about the ultrasonic resonance method to convert the rubber resonance frequency into the rubber thickness.

  • Accumulation of worn-out automobile tires creat fire and health hazards. As a possible solution to the problem of scrap-tire disposal, an experimental study was conducted to examine the potential of using tire chips as aggregate in Railroad block. This paper examines strength and toughness properties of Railroad block in which different amounts of rubber-tire particles of several sizes were used as aggregate. The Railroad block mixtures exhibited lower compressive, bending than did normal block. However, these mixtures did not demonstrate brittle failure, but rather a ductile, plastic failure, and had the ability to absorb a large amount of plastic energy under compressive loads.

  • Cure characteristics of carbon black-filled rubber compounds with different rubber composition were studied using a rheometer. The carbon black-filled rubber compounds with single, binary, and ternary rubber compositions of natural rubber (NR), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), and butadiene rubber (BR) were used. Delta-torques of the NR/BR- and SBR/BR-based compounds with a high BR content were higher than those of the single rubber-based compounds. For ternary rubber-based compounds, the delta-torques of the compounds were lower when the difference in the rubber content ratios was small than when it was big. Scorch and optimum cure times of the rubber compounds became shorter by increasing the content of NR in the compounds while those became longer by increasing the SBR content. Cure rates of the rubber compounds increased with a decrease of the SBR content in the rubber compounds. Reversion ratios decreased with an increase of the SBR content in the rubber compounds.

  • The miscibility between poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and polycaprolactone (PCL)-polyamide block copolymer whose content of PCL block is 62.7 wt%, was studied by differential scanning calorimetry. The PCL segment in the block copolymer and PVC has the miscibility showing single glass transition temperature (T$_{g}$). The miscible PVC molecule inhibited the crystallization of PCL segment, making an amorphous homogeneous phase of PCL and PVC segments at high PVC content. The blends had rubber elasticity at the temperature range between the T$_{g}$ of amorphous homogeneous phase of PCL and PVC segments and the melting temperature of polyamide segment, when both phases coexist.ist.
