The vehicle routing problem (VRP) is to determine a set of feasible vehicle routes, one for each vehicle, such that each customer is visited exactly once and the total distance travelled by the vehicles is minimized. A feasible route is defined as a simple circuit including the depot such that the total demand of the customers in the route does not exceed the vehicle capacity. While there have been significant advances recently in exact solution methodology, the VRP is not a well solved problem. We find most approaches still relying on the branch and bound method. These approaches employ various methodologies to compute a lower bound on the optimal value. We introduce a new modelling approach, termed route-splitting, for the VRP that allows us to address problems whose size is beyond the current computational range of set-partitioning models. The route-splitting model splits each vehicle route into segments, and results in more tractable subproblems. Lifting much of the burden of solving combinatorially hard subproblems, the route-splitting approach puts more weight on the LP master problem, Recent breakthroughs in solving LP problems (Nemhauser, 1994) bode well for our approach. Lower bounds are computed on five symmetric VRPs with up to 199 customers, and eight asymmetric VRPs with up to 70 customers. while it is said that the exact methods developed for asymmetric instances have in general a poor performance when applied to symmetric ones (Toth and Vigo, 2002), the route splitting approach shows a competent performance of 93.5% on average in the symmetric VRPs. For the asymmetric ones, the approach comes up with lower bounds of 97.6% on average. The route-splitting model can deal with asymmetric cost matrices and non-identical vehicles. Given the ability of the route-splitting model to address a wider range of applications and its good performance on asymmetric instances, we find the model promising and valuable for further research.

The purpose of this study is to identify the aspect that the traffic distribution function changes, according to the direction of the datum line and the horizontal and vertical positions of the datum point applied when it is calculated. Targeting routes at the entrance of Mokpo Harbor, this study tested using AIS survey data of January 2013 the effects of the three variables-direction of the datum line(${\theta}$), horizontal position($\mathfrak{L}_H$) and vertical position($\mathfrak{L}_V$) on mean ($\bar{x}$) and standard deviation (${\delta}$). The test result showed that $\bar{x}$ and ${\delta}$ were changed according to the change of ${\theta}$, because the extracted sample data were changed according to ${\theta}$; and the changes of $\bar{x}$ and ${\delta}$ according to ${\theta}$ were drawn as the relation of the sine function' sum. In addition, it was found that setting up ${\theta}$ that the change value of ${\delta}$ becomes the least as the direction of the datum line was valid, to determine the optimum passage distribution function on complex waters with multiple branches of route. The result of this study is expected to be used as basic data to understand maritime traffic flow based on more quantified data of normal distribution and make decisions related to maritime traffic safety management.
Foot and mouth disease (FMD) has a long history in Sri Lanka and was found to be endemic in various parts of the country and constitutes a constant threat to farmers. In Sri Lanka, currently there is no regular, nationwide vaccination programme devised to control FMD. Therefore, improving farmers' knowledge regarding distinguishing FMD from other diseases and ensuring prompt reporting of any suspicion of FMD as well as restricting movement of animals are critical activities for an effective FMD response effort. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to clarify the relationship between farmers' knowledge levels and their behaviors to establish a strategy to control FMD. In our study, item count technique was applied to estimate the number of farmers that under-report and sell FMD-infected animals, although to do so is prohibited by law. The following findings were observed: about 63% of farmers have very poor knowledge of routes of FMD transmission; 'under-reporting' was found to be a sensitive behavior and nearly 23% of the farmers were reluctant to report FMD-infected animals; and 'selling FMD-infected animals' is a sensitive behavior among high-level knowledge group while it is a non-sensitive behavior among the low-level knowledge group. If farmers would understand the importance of prompt reporting, they may report any suspected cases of FMD to veterinary officials. However, even if farmers report honestly, they do not want to cull FMD-infected animals. Thus, education programs should be conducted not only on FMD introduction and transmission, but also its impact. Furthermore, consumers may criticize the farmers for culling their infected animals. Hence, not only farmers, but also consumers need to be educated on the economic impact of FMD and the importance of controlling an outbreak. If farmers have a high knowledge of FMD transmission, they consider selling FMD-infected animals as a sensitive behavior. Therefore, severe punishment should be levied for selling FMD-infected animals.

The current growth of nano-industries has resulted in released nanoparticles entering into water and soil ecosystems via various direct or indirect routes. Physicochemical properties of nanoparticles differ from bulk materials, and nanomaterials influence the fates of nanoparticles and the interactions of living or non-living things in the environment. Microcosm analysis is a research methodology for revealing natural phenomena by mimicking part of an ecosystem under controlled conditions. Microcosm study allows for the integrated analysis of toxic effects and fates of nanoparticles in the ecosystem. Ecotoxicity studies of nanomaterials are steadily increasing, and microcosm studies of nanomaterials are currently beginning to surface. In this study, microcosm studies of nanomaterials in water and soil ecosystems were extensively investigated based on SCI(E) papers. We found that the microcosm studies have been reported in 12 instances, and mesocosm studies have been reported in only once until now. Advanced research was mostly evaluated at the microorganism level. But integrated analysis of nanotoxicity is required to research the interactions based of various species. Thus, our studies analysed the trend of microcosm studies on nanomaterials in water and soil ecosystems and suggested future directions of microcosm research of nanomaterials.

An emergency evacuation support system is used to maintain evacuation routes by pressurizing a space inside screens. In cases of fire, it is important to understand the thermal distributions in the tunnel for preventing system failure. In this study, we numerically investigated the effect of fire on an emergency evacuation support system in a large fabric store with some fire scenarios with different combustibles. The critical temperature for system failures was assumed to be $200^{\circ}C$. As a result, the highest temperature was predicted in the ceiling part due to the effect of a ceiling jet, and the fire safety of the screen was secured at distances of 20 to 30 m according to the heat release rate. To prevent the inflow of smoke into the system, it is necessary to maintain more than 5 Pa if positive pressure inside the smoke screen. The results of this study could be useful for designing an emergency evacuation support system.
This study investigated the lexical access processing of inflected Korean verbs in the mental lexicon. In Korean, verbs can be classified into two main types of inflections, which are regular and irregular inflections, which can be further divided into three types of regular inflections and two types of irregular inflections. A masked priming lexical decision task was used and the priming effects were compared. Experiments were carried out using the five different types of verbal inflections in Korean: (1) No change-regularity (regular verbs with no orthographical or phonological changes), (2) Phonological change-regularity (regular verbs with phonological changes to the stem only), (3) Orthographical change-regularity (regular verbs that only undergo orthographical changes), (4) Stem change-irregularity (the stem is omitted or alternated with the other phoneme of the stem in irregular verbs), (5) Ending change-irregularity (irregular verbs with changes in the endings by phoneme substitution). The first three types are regarded as regular verbal inflections whereas the latter two types are regarded as irregular verbal inflections. The infinitive forms of the verb were presented as target words and three different conditions were presented as prime words. The three conditions included regular verbal inflection, irregular verbal inflection, and a control condition in which morphologically and semantically unrelated primes were presented. In addition, different stimulus onset asynchrony (SOA) were manipulated (43ms, 72ms, 230ms) to examine the time frame of the morphological decomposition process in word recognition. The results revealed that there were significant priming effects in all three SOAs across conditions. Hence, there was no significant differences in priming effects between regular and irregular verbal inflection conditions. This may suggest that Korean verb processing does not adopt different processing routes for regular and irregular inflections, which can also be an indication of earlier morphological information processing for Korean verbs.
An airline should consider the number of seats or size of aircraft, when it composes fleet or selects a type of aircraft for some routes. There are two major factors considered for this choice problem under the assumption that the objectives of an airline is a profit maximization: the operating cost and revenue from the aircraft operated. This research tries to solve the problem of aircraft size selection by airline. The study applies four steps to get optimal choice of aircraft size: (1) cost analysis for the relationship between airline operation cost and aircraft size: (2) market share and revenue analysis: (3) flight segment-level analysis, based on the derived cost, demand and revenue functions: and (4) network-level analysis to see how airlines make choice of aircraft size systematically at a network level. An airline can accommodate the increasing air travel demand by either increasing operation frequency, or increasing aircraft size that is represented by seat capacity, or both. Airport runway capacity and productivity depend on the size of aircraft used at airport. This paper presents the understanding of how airlines make decisions on the size of aircraft to operate, how they will adjust their choices when airport capacity is constrained, and how public regulation such as policy for landing fees could influence airlines' aircraft choice.

The railway signalling system plays an essential role in the safe and efficient train operation as serving control functions of train operation intervals and train routes. The reliability and safety of the system are very important because the failure of the railway signalling system can lead to train collision or derailment as well as train operation stop. Until now, in railway signalling system the conventional wayside signal mode has been used generally. There are, however, the risk of accidents such as human mistakes caused by that the driver identifies the signal lamp status and controls train speed with the naked eye. It is also necessary to refurbish the obsolete system. Thereby, It is being effective that the onboard signal mode has been recently introduced and applied in order to transmit the speed control information to train by using the computer and communication equipment. It is necessary to switch over the system in a way while providing passengers with an operation service to replace the obsolete signal system. In this paper, we verify the cases through trial assessment which are solved by the way of adding specific functionalities in the problems of interference among the procedure of switch-over processes and a serial of processes for system verification while a train is operated in the new system in parallel to the existing system.

The Maritime Safety Act established restrictions for the passage of oil tankers, prohibiting vessesl carrying more than 1,500 kiloliters of oil or 1,500 tons of a hazardous liquid substance. Prohibited vessels that do not satisfy the restrictions are allowed to enter and depart from a nearby port from the outer sea area to minimize the time and distance the oil tanker must navigate in the prohibited area. Therefore, such regulation should not be construed as referring to inshore traffic. In this study, the traffic volume of coastal tankers that do not use the approaching channels for specific sea areas near Yeosu and Gwangyang Port was analyzed, and the cargo loads of these ships were investigated. The results of this study should be used to allow tankers to minimize the time and distance of navigation in prohibited areas. According to the survey, 16 vessels, 51.6 % of the 31 vessels using inshore traffic included in the study, were loaded with more than 1,500 tons of cargo. This is not appropriate according to the legislation for oil tanker passage. Therefore, in this study, sea routes have been proposed that connect with the approaching channels of specific sea areas, from the outer sea areas of restricted passages. Regulations have also been proposed for the entry and departure of oil tankers around Yeosu and Gwangyang Port.

The VE/LCC study on the existing multi-utility tunnel examined the economical feasibility of the collective area through the cost-benefit analysis of the ten major routes of Seoul for the benefit (7 items) and the cost (5 items) through quantitative methods. In this paper, we analyzed the economic efficiency of 61 sectors by adding 3 items (reduced traffic accident, reduced vehicle noise, social-economic loss). The reduced traffic accident item is an improvement of the traffic accident cost that can be saved by the implementation of the project, and the reduced vehicle noise item is an indicator of the amount of noise change caused by the implement of the business. Finally, the social-economic loss items represent the impact on the local economy due to the construction of the multi-utility tunnel. The amounts of the additional items were compared and items added in the open type and tunnel type multi-utility tunnel were analyzed for each analysis. Result on the analysis, it analyzed the items applied to the basic and detail models in the economic evaluation of the multi-utility tunnel design, and makes it possible to evaluate the economic efficiency more efficiently. The economic evaluation of the basic and detailed models including the items presented in this study will be often used in the design of the multi-utility tunnel design.
