Development of One-Piece Manufacturing Process for Automotive Cowl Cross Bar Using Rotary Swaging (회전 스웨이징을 이용한 자동차용 카울크로스바의 일체화 제조공정 개발)

  • The automobile cowl cross bar which is a backbone frame part holding electrical and air conditioning components inside the cockpit module has been designed with more complex geometries recently due to demands of its enhanced functions and reduced weight of frame parts. The traditional manufacturing process using welding between tubes with different diameters shows several problems such as poor mechanical characteristics and appearance, etc. Therefore, in this study, one-piece manufacturing processes which can eliminate the welding process were developed by applying the rotary swaging process. CAE analyses were conducted to examine the feasibility of the process and prototypes were manufactured by using a rotary swaging machine with 4 split rotating dies and 12 head rollers. Bending tests of the manufactured prototypes confirmed that the rotary swaging process gives better mechanical properties comparing with the conventional processes.

Velocity and Temperature Visualization of Air Convection in Differently Heated Rectangular Cavity with Upper Channel (상부채널을 갖는 사각공간에서 열유속 변화에 따른 공기대류의 속도와 온도 가시화)

  • An experimental study was carried out in a cavity with upper channel and square heat surface by visualization equipment with Mach-Zehnder interferometer and laser apparatus. The visualization system consists of 2-dimensional sheet light by Argon-Ion Laser with cylindrical lens and flow picture recording system. Instant simultaneous velocity vectors at whole field were measured by 2-D PIV system(CACTUS'2000). Obtained result showed various flow patterns. Severe unsteady flow fluctuation within the cavity are remarkable and sheared mixing layer phenomena are also found at the region where inlet flow is collided with the counter-clockwise rotating main primary vortex. Photographs of Mach-Zehnder are also compared in terms of constant heat flux.

The Effect of Carburization of the Fatigue of Low Carbon Steel (침탄(浸炭)이 저탄소강(低炭素鋼)의 피로(疲勞)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • The effects of carburization on the fatigue strength and cracks were studied. The fatigue phenomena of the carburized specimens were compared with noncarburized specimens those were either heat-treated or un-treated. The fatigue strength of these specimens were measured by rotating bending fatigue machine. The obtained results indicated that the fatigue strength of carburized specimens were increased ranging from 24-59 % than those of un-treated, and 22-38% than those of heat-treated. The Vickers hardness of carburized were also increased as much as 138-195% than those of un-treated, and 42-125% than those of heat-treated. The microscopic observation of the carburized specimens mostly composed of minute pearlitic structure at hard case exhibited to have more localized slip than those of non-carburized specimens.

  • Since power plant is an important system to provide electricity, it is necessary to monitor it in order to operate safely. Much information related with machine diagnosis exists in written form instead of digital data. So, it causes difficulties of analyzing and finding solutions. Rulebased expert system can provide flexible and effective solutions to users. In this paper, Recursive Bayesian Estimation is applied in order to increase accuracy of solutions.

  • We designed and manufactured DSPSRM using the usual output power equation of rotating machine. And the sinusoidaly approximated torque characteristics are achieved by 3D finite element analysis. Also, We calculated average torque per rotation using approximated torque data, calculated by 3D finite element analysis. On this paper, We manufacture torque-meter set and measure the torque characteristic of DSPSRM.

  • Flux-switching permanent magnet machines (FSPMM) have doubly-salient and simple structures making it cost effective and suitable for mass production. In addition, it is possible to increase the rotor rotating speed and concentrate the flux of the permanent magnet on the air-gap. Due to these merits, the FSPMM can be applied to the various industry applications. To improve the performance, various design variables need to be studied in terms of design techniques. In this paper, we especially concentrate on the distribution of iron losses using a two-dimensional finite-element method (2D FEM). As a result, we can get an information for high efficiency FSPMM design.

  • It is shown in this paper that it is possible to derive generalized state equations for computation of electrical circults constanining SCR and diode elements. Revankar's binary logic variable method is used for formulation of the state equation of chopper circuit. Advantage of this method is that the state equations can be set up without the exact knowledge of the circuit operaton. The different modes of operation of the circuit are identified by the computer itself. By applying this method, the steady state performances of separately excited chopper-fed dc motor considering the counter electromotive force of the motor are investigated and the results of the computer simulation are presented. There is a satisfactory agreement between the theoretical and experimental results.

  • Superconducting magnet can be employed in many fields, such as, magnet for strong field, superconducting rotating machine and superconducting energy storage system. In this paper, the solenoid magnet design procedure and materials used in construction are described in detail, and those are the fundamentals of superconducting magnet study. The fabrication and test procedure of 3 Tesla superconduting magnet are also described. Nb-Ti is used as a superconducting wire, GFRP and Kapton are used for electrical insulation. Inner diameter of the magnet is 10 cm. According to the test results, the field at the central point of the magnet was 3 Tesla, evaporation rate per hour was 2.7 litter and current at that case was 315 A.

  • This paper presents the effects of rotor time constant variation and the on-line tuning algorithm of the rotor time constant. If the value of the rotor time constant is set incorrectly, the IFOC (Indirect Field Oriented Control)scheme exhibits deteriorated performance according to the wrong slip command. These variation effects of the rotor time constant are caused by the slip calculator where it is known that the rotor time constant play an important role in the aligned rotor flux. Using the two torque angles (stationary torque angle, rotating torque angle), the variation of the rotor time constant is identified, and the rotor time constant of the controller is tuned to the proper value of the machine. As the result, with the proposed algorithm, the dynamics of the deteriorated IFOC system, where the rotor time constant is varied, is improved. For the purpose of the validity of this proposed algorithm, the computer simulations and the experiments have been performed and the explanation of the results is presented.   • The rotating of rotatory unit with its structural unbalance mass and laundry is making the main vibration problem in a vertical axis washing machine. For reducing vibration problem total washing system hung on the case by its suspension system which is constitute of spring, damper and suspension bar and hydraulic balancer is attached at the upper rim of spin basket. In this paper, we make the dynamic model of washing system of its rigid body motions by 6 degree of freedoms. Hydraulic balancer is modeled by one degree of freedom like auto ball balancer. Elastic motions of washing system have found by method of analytic, experimental and FEM. And we consider first bending mode of each suspension bar and first circumferential mode of assy tub. So, the total washing system is modeled by 12 degree of freedoms. Equations of motion for total washing system have derived, and we perform the dynamic simulation tests.
