An Improvement in Synchronously Rotating Reference Frame-Based Voltage Sag Detection under Distorted Grid Voltages

  • This study proposed an improvement in synchronously rotating reference frame-based voltage sag detection under distorted grid voltages. In the past, the conventional synchronously rotating reference frame (CSRRF)-based voltage sag detection was generally used in the voltage sag compensation applications. Its disadvantage is a long delay of detection time. The modified synchronously rotating reference frame (MSRRF)-based voltage sag detection is able to detect the voltage sag with only a short delay in detection time. However, its operation under distorted grid voltage conditions is unavailable. This paper proposed the improvement of modified synchronously rotating reference frame (IMSRRF)-based voltage sag detection for use in distorted grid voltages with very fast operation of voltage sag detection. The operation of the proposed voltage sag detections is investigated via simulations and experimentations to verify the performance of the IMSRRF-based voltage sag detection.

  • A modeling method for the modal analysis of rotating beam structures having complex configurations employing multi-reference frames is presented in the present study. In most structural analysis methods, single reference frame is employed for the modal analysis. For simple structures such as single beam or single plate, the method of employing single reference frame usually provides rapidly converging accurate results. However, for general structures having complex configurations, such a method provides slowly converging, and often erroneous, results. In the present study, the effects of employing multi-reference frames on the convergence and the accuracy of the modal analysis of rotating beam structures having complex configurations are investigated.

  • This paper presents the control algorithm of single-phase hybrid active power filter for the compensation of harmonic current components in nonlinear R-L load with passive active Power filters. To construct two phase system, an imaginary second phase was made. In this proposed method, the new signal which is the delayed through the filtering by the phase-delay property of low-pass filter is used as the secondary phase. Because two-phases have the different phase, the instantaneous calculation of harmonic current is possible. In this paper, a reference voltage is created by multiplying the coefficient k by the compensation current using the rotating reference frame synchronized with the source-frequency, not applying to instantaneous reactive power theory which has been used with the existing fixed reference frames In order to verify the validities of the proposed control methods, experiments are carried out with the prototypes of single-phase hybrid active power filter.

The geometric stiffening effect that results from centrifugal inertia force is considered. In most previous studies single reference frame has been employed for the analysis. In the present study, a modeling method employing multi-reference frames is presented, and the effects of employing multi-reference frames on the analysis accuracy are investigated through solving numerical examples.

The rotary inertia effect and the geometric stiffening effect that results from centrifugal inertia force we considered for beams and shells with lumped mass model. In most previous studies, single reference frame has been employed for the vibration analysis. In the present study, a modeling method employing multi-reference frames is presented and the effects of employing multi-reference frames on the analysis accuracy are investigated through solving numerical examples.

A New Control Method for a Single-Phase Hybrid Active Power Filter based on a Rotating Reference Frame

  • To get instantaneous reference data in a single power system with vector space phasors, the instantaneous load current is adopted as a phase and another new signal, which is delayed through filtering by the phase-delay property of a low-pass filter, is used as the secondary phase. Because the two-phases have a different phase, the instantaneous value of the harmonic current can be obtained without a time-delay in calculation. The reference voltage is created by multiplying the coefficient k by the compensation current using the rotating reference frame synchronized with the source-frequency.   • This paper presents a new control method of single-phase active power filter (APF) for the compensation of harmonic current components in nonlinear loads. To facilitate the possibility of complex calculation for harmonic current detection of the single phase, a single-phase system that has two phases was constructed by including an imaginary second-phase giving time delay to the load current. The imaginary phase, which lagged the load current T/4 (Here T is the fundamental cycle) is used in the conventional method. But in this proposed method, the new signal as the second phase is delayed by the filter. Because this control method is applied to a single-phase system, an instantaneous calculation was developed by using the rotating reference frames synchronized to source-frequency rather than by applying instantaneous reactive power theory that uses the conventional fixed reference frames. The control scheme of single-phase APF for the current source with R-L loads is applied to a laboratory prototype to verify the proposed control method.

  • In this paper, a new speed sensorless control based on an instantaneous reactive power is proposed for the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) drives. In proposed algorithm, the current observer estimates the line currents and the estimated speed can be yielded from the voltage equation because the information of speed is included in back EMF. To implement speed sensorless control, the current observer is composed by using the voltage equation of the IPMSM in the stationary reference frame fixed to the stator. The estimated speed of the rotor is composed by using the voltage equation of the IPMSM in the rotating reference frame fixed to the rotor The estimated speeds to minimize the speed error compensated by using the instantaneous reactive power. The instantaneous reactive power is calculated on the rotating reference frame fixed to the rotor. The effectiveness of the preposed algorithm is confirmed by the experiments.

  • This paper presents a synchronous-rotating-frame-based control of single-phase UPQC(Unified Power Quality Conditioner) to improve power quality in ac electrified railway systems. The simulation results show that the UPQC can compensate the harmonic supply voltages, the harmonic load currents, and the reactive power in electrified railway systems. Validity of the proposed UPQC control method based on the synchronous rotating frame is illustrated through the simulation results.
