  • The base material of optical disc is the amorphous polymer, polycarbonate. So crack growth on the rotating optical disc could happen by the static centrifugal force. This phenomenon is called static fatigue. Today's CD-R disc drive is being operated over 10,000 RPM. This is increasing the possibility of the disc fracture when operating. In this reason, new method to measure the static fatigue threshold quality and the way to calculate the threshold J-integral value and the safe crack length of the optical disc are studied. Finally the environmental effect to optical disc is also studied in this paper.

회전원판반응조에 의한 Peudomonas putida H-5의 포름알데히드의 연속적 분해 (Continuous Degradation of Formaldehyde by Peudomonas putida H-5 Using Rotation Disc Contactor)

  • Continuous degradation of formaldehyde by using a rotating disc contactor was investigated in this study. Peudomonas putida H-5K was selected as a mutant using N-methyl N'-nitro N-nitrosoguandine (250$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$), which showed 1.5 times higher ability of formaldehyde degradation than that of the parent strain. Enzyme activity for formaldehyde degradation released form Peudomonas putida H-5K showed the highest level of 6.2mo1/min/mg protein in the 2% glucose mineral medium containing 0.02% formaldehyde. Degradation of formaldehyde from the first stage in rotating disc contactor was 95% and 5% from the 4th stage when the reactor was fed with 0.02% or 0.04% formaldehyde solution at a rate of 20$m\ell$ per hour. Continuous degradation of formaldehyde using rotating disc contactor was above 95%o in the medium containing 0.04% formalchyde, at the medium feed ratc of 20$m\ell$ per hour.

  • A kinetic study on the electrodeposition of zinc-iron alloys onto a steel in chloride solutions has been car-ried out using a rotating disc geometry. The results show that the deposition rate was increased with electropotential, disc rotation speed and temperature, and consequently the rate was partly controlled by elec-trochemical reaction and partly by mass transport. The iron content of deposit was more increased with cell voltage than with disc rotating speed and temperature. During electrodeposition process, the addition of metal-lic zinc powder retards oxidation rate of $Fe^{2+}$.

회전 디스크 브레이크의 스퀼소음에 대한 선형안정성 연구 (Linear Stability Analysis of a Rotating Disc Brake for Squeal Noise)

  • The squeal propensity of an automotive disc brake system is studied in the theoretical and computational manner. The rotating disc is in contact with two stationary pads and the nonlinear friction is engaged on the contact surface. The friction-coupled equations of motion are derived in the finite element(FE) of the actual brake disc and pad. From the general definition of friction force, the rotation and in-plane mode effects can be included properly in the brake squeal model. The eigenvalue sensitivity analysis and the mode shape visualization at squeal frequencies are also conducted for the detailed investigation. It is found that the squeal propensity is strongly influenced by rotation effect and the in-plane mode can be involved in squeal generation.

Semicontinuous Decolorization of Azo Dyes by Rotating Disc Contactor Immobilized with Aspergillus sojae B-10

  • Aspergillus sojae B-l0 was immobilized and used to treat model dye compounds. The model wastewater, containing 10 ppm of azo dyes such as Amaranth, Sudan III, and Congo Red, was treated with cells attached to a rotating disc contactor (RDC). Amaranth was decolorized more easily than were Sudan III and Congo Red. Decolorization of Amaranth began within a day, and the dye was completely decolorized within 5 days of incubation. Both Sudan III and Congo Red were almost completely decolorized after 5 days of incubation. Semicontinuous decolorization of azo by reusing attached mycelia resulted in almost complete decolorization in 20 days. This experiment indicated that decolorization was successfully conducted by removing azo dyes with Aspergillus sojae B-10.

  • This paper deals with the stress concentration of the rotating disc in detail. We studied maximum stress of rotating disc with respect to the various parameter of circular hole such as position, size, number of the hole, then the mollified effect of maximum stress due to pin-hole around circular hole, using FEM, the results are as follows: 1. The more the number of circular hole and the further from the center, the maximum equivalent stress reduces. 2. When the pin-hole is located 60$^{\circ}$ from the x-axis, the maximum stress reduces significantly due to the effect of interference.

  • The heat transfer characteristics of the rotating heat pipe with a disc evaporator and a grooved condenser have been investigated by measuring temperature distributions of wall and vapor for various thermal inputs and revolutions per minute. The results showed that the heat transfer coefficients of all types are increased with thermal input and revolutions per minute. The heat transfer coefficient of evaporator with groove (pitch=2.5mm depth=1.5mm) is 25.8% higher than that of evaporator without groove at 500RPM, 150W.

  • A modeling method for the modal analysis of a pre-twisted multi-packet blade system undergoing rotational motion is presented in this paper. Blades are idealized as pre-twisted cantilever beams that are fixed to a rotating disc. The stiffness coupling effects between blades due to the flexibilities of the disc and the shroud are modeled with discrete springs. The coupling effect between chordwise and flapwise bending deflection is also considered. Hybrid deformation variables are employed to derive the equations of motion. To obtain more general information, the equations of motion are transformed into dimensionless forms in which dimensionless parameters are identified. The effects of the dimensionless parameters and the number of packets as well as blades on the modal characteristics of the rotating multi-packet pre-twisted blade system are investigated with some numerical examples.

강상에 니켈-아연-인 삼원 합금도금에 관한 속도론적 연구 (A Kinetic Study on the Electrodeposition of Ni-Zn-P Ternary Alloys onto a Steel)

  • A kinetic study on the electrodeposition of Ni-Zn-P ternary alloys onto a steel in chloride solutions was carried out using a rotating disc electrode. The coatings were characterized using SEM/EPMA and A. A. analysis. The results showed that the plating rates of three components were increased with applied potential, disc rotating speed and temperature. The activation energies of Ni, Zn and P of the coatings were 6.1, 5.1 and 8.0 kcal/mole respectively. Therefore, the deposition rates were controlled partly by surface electrochemical reaction and partly by mass transport. As the potential, temperature of bath and rotating speed of cathode disc were raised, the vol. % ratios of Ni and P of coating layer were increased but that of Zn decreased. The effect of coating parameters on the surface morphology was also examined.

  • The objective of this paper is to decide optimal of the slot angle to minimize stress concentration in rotating disc of diamond saw. The fracture phenomena of the slot are discussed by the theoretical and experimental approaches and then some recommendation are presented to prevent the fracture. The focus of this investigation is to evaluation the effect of the slot on stress distribution using optimum design technique and finite element method(FEM) analysis. Stress concentration of the slot with respect to the various parameter of the slot such position, size, number, rotation speed. From the experimental results, when the slot angle of diamond saw is located $8^{\circ}\~12^{\circ}$ from rotating direction, the maximum equivalent stress reduces.
