A theoretical study for a forced uniform flow impinging on a rotating disk, typically involved in Chemical Vapor Deposition(CVD) and Vapor-phase Axial Deposition(VAD) processes, has been carried out. A set of exact solutions for flow and temperature fields are developed by employing a similarity variable obtained from force balance on a control volume near the disk. The solutions depend on the rotating speed of the disk, .omega., and the forced flow speed toward the disk, a. For constant forced flow speed, the overall boundary layer thickness decreases when the rotating speed increases. Approximately 5%, 15%, and 30% decreases of the thickness are obtained for .omega./a = 2, 5, and 10, respectively, compared to the case of .omega./a = 0 (axisymmetric stagnation point flow). For constant rotating disk speed the boundary layer thickness immediately decreases as the forced flow speed increases, compared to the case of .omega./a .rarw. .inf. (induced flow near a rotating disk). Effects of .omega. and a on heat transfer coefficient are studied and explained with the boundary layer characteristics.
Magnesium material could be widely used in the automotive industry because of its high strength to weight ratio, but the electric resistance spot welding process of magnesium sheets is difficult because of its low electric resistance and high thermal conduction and thermal expansion. For this reason, an electric resistance surface friction spot welding process using rotating dies is suggested for the spot welding of magnesium metal sheets. This welding method can be characterized by three heating methods: (1) electric resistance heating on contacted surface, (2) surface friction heating by rotating dies, and (3) thermal conduction heating from heated steel electrodes, for the fusion of metal at the interfacial zone between the two magnesium sheets. This welding process also has variables to explore, such as welding currents, diameters of the steel electrode, and rotating dies. It was found that the welding strength could reach industrial requirements by applying a welding current of 11.0kA, with steel electrodes of 12mm diameter, with rotating dies of 4.4 mm diameter, under the condition of a revolution speed of 1200rpm of rotating dies, for the surface friction spot welding process of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets of 1.4mm thickness.

The vibrational system of this study is consisted of a rotating cantilever pipe conveying fluid and the tip mass. The equation of motion is derived by using the Lagrange equation. The influences of the rotating angular velocity and the velocity of fluid flow in a cantilever pipe have been studied on the dynamic characteristics of a rotating cantilever pipe by the numerical method. The effects of a tip mass on the dynamic response of a cantilever pipe are also studied. The tip-amplitude and maximum tip-deflection of each direction are directly proportional to the tip mass of the cantilever pipe in steady state. It identifies that the influence of the fluid velocity and the rotating angular velocity of the cantilever pipe give much variation the bending tip-displacement of steady state and the bending tip-displacement of non-steady state, respectively. The influence of the rotating angular velocity gives much the deflection of axial direction.

In the previous experimental study about extrusion of circular product with four helical fins, it was known that product with helical fins may not to be rotated during extruding with rotating extrusion dies in spite of using twisted dies. According to the results of experiments with Plasticin material, it was anticipated that the extrusion load could be reduced if rotating dies could be used, because it needs high pressure in order to twist billet and form fin shape on the surface of product in the case of using conventional fixed helical dies. So, in this paper, according to the extrusion load analyzed by DEFORM-3D software, optimal rotational velocity of rotating dies can be obtained, and the twisting, angle of product can be analyzed during extruding product with helical fins in the case of two types of rotating of dies. The results of analysis by DEFORM-3D show that the twisting angle of product can be controlled by twisted angle of extrusion helical dies and the rotational velocity of helical dies.
Wigner-Ville distribution which is a time-frequency analysis has a fatal drawback, when the signal has multiple components. This is the cross-talk and often causes a neagative value in the distribution. Wingner-Ville distriution is an expression of power, therefore the cross-talk must be avoided. Smoothing the Wigner-Ville distribution by convoluting it with a window, is most commonly used to reduce the cross-talk. There can be infinite number of distributions depending on the windows. But, the smoothing reduces resolution in time-frequency plane; this motives to design a more effective window in reducing cross-talk while remaining resolution. The domain in which the cross-talk and legitimate components can be easily distinguished, is the ambiguity function. In the ambiguity function domain, the legitimate components appear as linear lines passing through the orgine. But, the cross-talk is widely distributes in the ambiguity function plane. Based on the relative distributions of cross-talk and legitimate components, rotating window can be designed to minimize cross-talk. Applying the rotating window to the ambiguity function corresponds to smoothing the Wigner-Ville distribution. Therefore, the effects of rotating window is estimated in terms of the bias error due to smooting the Wigner-Ville distribution. By applying the rotating window, not only the Wigner-Ville distribution but also its properties are changed. The properties of the new distribution are checked, in order to complete analyzing the rotating window.
The objective of this study is to investigate optimum condition for lignin peroxidase production by white rot fungi Phanerochaete chysosporium IFO 31249 immobilized in a rotating bioreactor. The maximum lignin peroxidase activity of batch culture in rotating bioreactor was 300 U/L. The optimum rotating speed and packing ratio of support for lignin peroxidase production in a rotating bioreactor were 1 rpm and 20%, respectively. The optimum concentration of $MnSO_4$$\cdot$$H_2O$ for manganese-dependent peroxidase production in a rotating bioreactor was 50 ppm. The sufficient supply of oxygen was the most important factor to achieve maximum lignin peroxidase production. It was possible to produce lignin peroxidase (LiP) and manganese-dependent peroxidase (MnP) for at least 3 times successive repeated-batch cultures, respectively.
A study has been made on how to occur inertial oscillations in a rotating flow. The flow is considered to be induced by differentially-rotating top and bottom disks with infinite radius. The top and bottom disks are assumed to be set in motion over a finite initial start-up time duration from initial solid body rotation ($\Omega$) to each finial state, i.e., the top disk is rotating at the angular velocity (${\Omega}+{\Delta}{\Omega}$) and the bottom disk (${\Omega}-{\Delta}{\Omega}$). The system Reynolds number, which is a reciprocal of conventional Ekman number in rotating flows, is very high so that a boundary layer flow near disks is pronounced. From a strict theoretical analysis, it is clearly found the fact that inertial oscillation in a rotating flow is caused by excessive input of torque during start-up phase. Above finding comes from the following physics of theoretical result: in the case of abrupt start-up within very shorter time-duration than spin-up time scale, the inertial oscillation is magnified but it could be completely depressed in the case of mildly accelerated start-up, i.e., start-up process being established over diffusion time scale.

Contra-rotating fan is comprised of two rotors which are rotating in the opposite direction. The fan stages are named rotor-1 and rotor-2. Benefits from the use of contra rotation are in terms of better efficiency and improved thrust to weight ratio. Failure of contra-rotating fan stage blade in-service results in safety risks, repair costs, and revenue losses. This paper focuses on the vibration analysis and one way fluid-structure interaction of high aspect ratio, low speed contrarotating fan rotors. Modal analysis and modal pre-stress analysis of contra-rotating fan rotors were carried out to calculate the natural frequencies, One way fluid-structure interaction (FSI) was carried out where the computational analysis of the blades was performed using ANSYS CFX. The boundary conditions for CFD analysis were considered from the actual experimental velocity flow field at the inlet and pressure outlet. Based on the results obtained from the CFD analysis, the structural analysis such as deformation and Von-Misses stresses was carried out by using the finite element method (FEM) with ANSYS. The results provide necessary guidelines for the safe running of the contra-rotating fan. The analysis also will be helpful to understand the change of flow behavior due to a rotor deformation.

A modelling method for the vibration analysis of rotating cantilever plates with a concentrated mass is presented. The equations of motion for the rotating plates with a concentrated mass located in an arbitrary position are derived. For the modelling of the concentrated mass, a mass density Dirac delta function is used. The effects of concentrated mass and its location, angular speed, and hub radius of the rotating plate on the natural frequencies are studied. Particularly, mode shape variations due to some parameter variations are investigated.
Almost all rotating machinery has bearings. Bearing is one of the most important part of rotating machinery. Vibration of rotating machinery depend on its bearing conditions. Bearing conditions are followings ; oil gap, bearing type, bearing temperature, bearing oil condition. Especially, bearing oil condition influences on rotating machinery vibration directly. In this paper we have discussed the abnormal vibration of turbine due to oil condition. oil whip problem was occured in the certain power plant. and we had sloved this problem through the control of operating values and alignment.
