Mathematical morphology based on set theory has been applied to various areas in image processing. Pitas proposed a object recognition algorithm using Morphological Shape Decomposition(MSD), and a new representation scheme called Morphological Shape Representation(MSR). The Pitas's algorithm is a simple and adequate approach to recognize objects that are rotated 45 degree-units with respect to the model object. However, this recognition scheme fails in case of random rotation. This disadvantage may be compensated by defining small angle increments. However, this solution may greatly increase computational complexity because the smaller the step makes more number of rotations to be necessary. In this paper, we propose a new method for object recognition based on MSD. The first step of our method decomposes a binary shape into a union of simple binary shapes, and then a new tree structure is constructed which ran represent the relations of binary shapes in an object. finally, we obtain the feature informations invariant to the rotation, translation, and scaling from the tree and calculate matching scores using efficient matching measure. Because our method does not need to rotate the object to be tested, it could be more efficient than Pitas's one. MSR has an intricate structure so that it might be difficult to calculate matching scores even for a little complex object. But our tree has simpler structure than MSR, and easier to calculated the matchng score. We experimented 20 test images scaled, rotated, and translated versions of five kinds of automobile images. The simulation result using octagonal structure elements shows 95% correct recognition rate. The experimental results using approximated circular structure elements are examined. Also, the effect of noise on MSR scheme is considered.

A difficulty of the visual inspection for translated, magnified and rotated objects exists owing to the limitation of recognition rate. In this paper, we perform to define Integral Logarithm Transform(ILT), to consider its characteristic for implementation of Translation-, Magnification- and Rotation-invariant inspection system, and to compare with other methods in inspection error rate. By using magnification and rotation invariance properties of ILT, it makes easier than other methods to extract the rotation degree. The new method employs the ILT for the good/bad inspection of translated, magnified and rotated objects and experiment is performed to achieve translation, magnification and rotation invariance. In other methods both magnification and rotation invariance can't be available. As the result of he experiment, it is not better than the self-organizing map in the improvement of recognition rate, but it shows us the possibility to be used as a tool for the good/bad inspection system.
We studied the initial reaction mechanism of Zn precursors, namely, di-methylzinc ($Zn(CH_3)_2$, DMZ) and diethylzinc ($Zn(C_2H_5)_2$, DEZ), for zinc oxide thin-film growth on a Si (001) surface using density functional theory. We calculated the migration and reaction energy barriers for DMZ and DEZ on a fully hydroxylized Si (001) surface. The Zn atom of DMZ or DEZ was adsorbed on an O atom of a hydroxyl (-OH) due to the lone pair electrons of the O atom on the Si (001) surface. The adsorbed DMZ or DEZ migrated to all available surface sites, and rotated on the O atom with low energy barriers in the range of 0.00-0.13 eV. We considered the DMZ or DEZ reaction at all available surface sites. The rotated and migrated DMZs reacted with the nearest -OH to produce a uni-methylzinc ($-ZnCH_3$, UMZ) group and methane ($CH_4$) with energy barriers in the range of 0.53-0.78 eV. In the case of the DEZs, smaller energy barriers in the range of 0.21-0.35 eV were needed for its reaction to produce a uni-ethylzinc ($-ZnC_2H_5$, UEZ) group and ethane ($C_2H_6$). Therefore, DEZ is preferred to DMZ due to its lower energy barrier for the surface reaction.
Fiber optic current sensors based on polarization-rotated reflection interferometry are demonstrated by incorporating them into polymeric optical waveguide components, including polarization-maintaining 3-dB couplers, TE-pass waveguide polarizers, and thermooptic phase modulators. To remove the bending induced birefringence, optical fiber coil is annealed at $850^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. The reflection interferometry comprising polymer waveguide devices exhibit a highly stable output signal corresponding to the flowing current.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to predict the optimal bending angles of a running loop for bodily protraction of the mandibular first molars and to clarify the mechanics of molar tipping and rotation. Methods: A three-dimensional finite element model was developed for predicting tooth movement, and a mechanical model based on the beam theory was constructed for clarifying force systems. Results: When a running loop without bends was used, the molar tipped mesially by $9.6^{\circ}$ and rotated counterclockwise by $5.4^{\circ}$. These angles were almost similar to those predicted by the beam theory. When the amount of tip-back and toe-in angles were $11.5^{\circ}$ and $9.9^{\circ}$, respectively, bodily movement of the molar was achieved. When the bend angles were increased to $14.2^{\circ}$ and $18.7^{\circ}$, the molar tipped distally by $4.9^{\circ}$ and rotated clockwise by $1.5^{\circ}$. Conclusions: Bodily movement of a mandibular first molar was achieved during protraction by controlling the tip-back and toe-in angles with the use of a running loop. The beam theory was effective for understanding the mechanics of molar tipping and rotation, as well as for predicting the optimal bending angles.

Existing character recognition algorithm recognize characters in simple conditional. It has the disadvantage that recognition rates often drop drastically when input document image has low quality, rotated text, various font or size text because of external noise or data loss. In this paper, proposes the optical character recognition algorithm which using bicubic interpolation method for the catalog retrieval when the input image has rotated text, blurred, various font and size. In this paper, applied optical character recognition algorithm consist of detection and recognition part. Detection part applied roberts and hausdorff distance algorithm for correct detection the catalog of book. Recognition part applied bicubic interpolation to interpolate data loss due to low quality, various font and size text. By the next time, applied rotation for the bicubic interpolation result image to slant proofreading. Experimental results show that proposal method can effectively improve recognition rate 6% and search-time 1.077s process result.
Objective: To investigate rotation movement of segment for performing each position and its effect on knee/hip angulation, COM inclination, and edging angle changes. Method: Twelve Alpine skiers (age: $25.8{\pm}4.8years$, height: $173.8{\pm}5.9cm$, weight: $71.4{\pm}7.4kg$, length of career: $9.9{\pm}4.6years$) participated in this study. Each skier was asked to perform counter-rotation, neutral, and rotation positions. Results: Shank and thigh were less rotated in the counter-rotation position than in other positions, whereas the trunk and pelvis were more counter-rotated (p<.05). Hip angulation, COM inclination, and edging angle were significantly greater in the counter-rotation position than in other positions (p<.05). Conclusion: Our finding proved that the counter-rotation position increases hip angulation, COM inclination, and edging angle. Consequently, we suggest that skiers should perform counter-rotation of the trunk and pelvis relative to the ski direction in the vertical axis for the counter-rotation position. Further analysis will continue to investigate the effects of the counter-rotation position in real ski slope with kinetic analysis.

In this study, forces and moments were measured on a projectile which consisted of a missile configuration body(shell) and a head installed control fins. The shell and the head were separated each other and the shell was rotated by an electric motor. The head rotated reversely against the rotational direction of the shell. The rotational force on the head was obtained from a couple of fixed fins of which angular displacement were set to the rotational direction equally. The air velocity was 40m/s on the experiment and the Reynolds number based on the diameter of head was $1.3{\times}10^5$. The other couple of fins were used to control the position and direction of the projectile by changing the angular displacement. From this experiment, the variation of force and moment were measured on the rotating projectile, and the effective amplitude and frequency were obtained through the FFT analysis.

In this paper, a modified PTS(Partial Transmit Sequences) technique that uses erasure decoding of RS (Reed-Solomon) codes is presented. At the transmitter, some check symbols in a RS codeword partitioned into subblocks are phase-rotated by phase factors. The receiver decodes received codewords by regarding the phase-rotated check symbols as erasures. Hence, this technique does not need to transmit the side information about the phase factors chosen at the transmitter. The complexity of the receiver is also reduced since the estimation process for the phase factors is not required in the receiver. There is no performance degradation due to the transmission error of the side information or the estimation error of the phase factors. To evaluate the performance of the proposed PTS technique, the CCDF(Complementary Cumulative Distribution Function) of PAPR and the BER(Bit Error Rate) are compared with those of the conventional PTS techniques.

The major weeds observed in soybean(Glycine max(L.) Merr.) culture at the paddy field where transplanted rice was cultivated in previous year were Digitaria spp., Echinochloa spp., Chenopodium ficifolium, Rorippa islandica and Stellaria alsine. C. ficifolium and R. islandica increased as soybean was cultivated for two years in the same field. Weed biomass decreased by 84.8% as the seeding date was delayed from April 26 to May 20. Most of weeds started to emerge from 20 days after seeding(DAS) until 40 DAS, and higher seed yield was obtained by eliminating the weeds emerged until 40 DAS. The development of soybean branches, pods stem diameter was severely injured by weed interference, and thus soybean seed yield was reduced by 70% in comparison with a full season weed free plot. Herbicides such as pendimethalin, metolachlor, metolachlor+prometryn and alachlor controlled very effectively weeds present in soybean culture in rice-soybean rotated paddy field.
