Dynamic Load/unload (L/UL) mechanism is an alternative to the contact start stop (CSS) technology which eliminates striction and wear failure modes associated with CSS. Inertia latch mechanism becomes important for mobile disk drives because of non operating shock performance. Various types of latch designs have been introduced in hard disk drives to limit a rotary actuator from sudden uncontrolled motion. In this paper, a single spring inertia latch is introduced for a small form optical disk drive, which uses a rotary actuator for moving an optical pick-up. A new small inertia latch with sin91e spring is designed to ensure both feasible and small size. The shock performance of the new inertia latch is experimentally verified.
This study presents a so-called regenerative ER damper which does not require external power sources with aid of energy conversion from kinetic energy into electrical energy. The ER damper is manufactured by employing a rack and pinion mechanism which converts a linear piston motion to a rotary motion. This rotary motion is amplified by gears and subsequently activates a generator to produce an electrical energy. In order to demonstrate the efficiency of the mechanism, with respect to the frequency of the ER damper is investigated a generated electric voltage, which is amplified via a transformer prior to being applied to the ER damper. In addition, the damping force of the ER damper obtained by the regenerated voltage is evaluated.

Noise reduction has become a major issue of the manufacturing industry. This paper describes the reduction of noise and vibration of rotary compressors. Empirical design for the present strap of the accumulator has been considered to be sufficient for the constraint of the accumulator resonance modes without thorough study. Recently, however, some researchers found out that the accumulator contributes considerably to the sound propagation. In this paper, the contribution of accumulator to the noise propagation is investigated through sound measuring experiments by checking the directivity of the noise. And, experimental modal analysis results show that frequencies of some resonance modes of the accumulator coincide with the highest peaks on sound spectrum. To demonstrate the reason for those resonance modes, a finite element analysis is conducted. Normal mode analysis of the finite element model of the rotary compressor shows the mechanism of the accumulator resonance modes.

The wear of partially coated pinion cutters under several cutting conditions was studied. In the realm of this experiment, chipping was a dominant tool wear mechanism and flank wear was much larger than crater wear. Under the condition of relatively low rotary feed and low radial feed rate, the wear due to chipping was concentrated at the nose part of pinion cutter. Increasing of rotary feed and radial feed rate alleviated the concentration of chipping at nose and prolonged tool life.

A concrete floor trowel machine, developed in the U.S in 1990's, consists of only two rotary trowels, and doesn't need any other mechanism for motion such as wheels. When the machine flattens a concrete floor with its rotary trowels, the machine can move in any direction by utilizing the unbalanced friction forces occurring between the rotary wheels and the floor when the trowels are tilted in appropriate directions. In order to automate the trowels machine, this paper proposed the self-propulsive concrete finishing trowel robot which has twin trowels. For the control of the robot, this paper discussed the following. Firstly, the dynamics model of the driving frictional force applied on each trowel from the floor is derived. Secondly, the relationship between the driving force for the robot and the control variable of the robot is derived. Finally, the basic motion of the robot are realized by using the obtained relationship. This paper figures out how the concrete floor finishing robot with tow trowels moves and will contribute to realizing it.

Rotary compressor is one of the most useful mechanism that is widely applied in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. That is due to character of rotary compressor -compact, simple etc. While there is a lot of strong points, there is room for improvement because it is composed of many parts which have wear problem, friction losses and leakage. In this paper, theoretical investigation about vane and slot parts at which we observe severe wear is carried out. Through the study of lubrication, the behavior of vane during one cycle can be predicted and the cause of wear at slot will be discovered. To solve the equations, fletcher-powell method is applied. The result of analysis show that vane bevell to the slot part with discharge port before rotation of shaft is 180 degree and bevell to the slot part with suction port after 180 degree. The motion of vane is divided 3 mode that depends on behavior of vane. This paper define the first mode when vane tilt to the compression chamber, the second mode when vane tilt to the suction chamber, and the third mode when vane move straightway.
In this paper, a rolling piston rotary compressor having a combined vane and roller unit has been introduced. In a conventional rotary compressor, sliding motion takes place between the vane nose and roller. By combining the vane and the roller in one unit, gas leakage through a clearance between the vane nose and the roller can be eliminated, and the frictional loss between them can also be reduced to almost nought. Compressor model with the combined vane and roller has been fabricated and tested in a compressor calorimeter and computer simulation program has been developed to confirm merits of the new mechanism. In a test, cooling capacity has been found to be increased by 1.4%, and the compressor input decreased by 0.3%, resulting in 1.7% increased in EER. Simulation program confirmed the calorimeter test results and the merits of the new model as mentioned above.
Purpose: This study has been conducted to investigate the applicability of motion analysis of tillage blade for estimation of tillage characteristics of crank-type and rotary-type rotavators. Methods: The interrelation between tillage traces from motion analysis and field test results including rotavating depth, pulverizing ratio and inversion ratio at the same work conditions were analyzed for both crank-type and rotary-type rotavators. The work conditions include working speed of prime mover tractor and PTO speed of rotavators. For the motion analysis, joint conditions of main connecting component were specified considering the actual working mechanism of rotavator. Results: There were important correlations for the trend between motion analysis and field test results. Conclusions: Although further study is needed for applying motion analysis to estimate the accurate tillage related parameters such as rotavating depth, the soil pulverizing ratio and inversion ratio, it could be used to compare the tillage characteristics of various rotavators quickly and simply.

It is becoming more significant to develop a rotary VCM type actuator for small form factor ODD, as portables are getting more and more popularized nowadays. In this paper, the procedure of development of the actuator which is applicable to compact flash II card and is fit in the specification of BD 1X is explained. This is based on the rotary VCM type actuator, which is good for reducing thickness. Air core solenoid coil is used in order to do focusing mechanism. And the total weight is reduced by using the structure of steel-aluminium-steel triple layer, so, the stiffness is still adequate. Additionally, the tracking coil is moved next to the actuator, so the total length was reduced, then the actuator become applicable to compact flash II card. The force of Magnetic Circuit is improved by using Magnetic Circuit DOE. And flexible mode frequency improved through the DOE of structure part. Modeling was exactly done in consideration of air core solenoid coil and pivot bearing. It is confirmed that the designed model is satisfied with the specification of BD 1X and is applicable to Compact Flash II card.
Present combustion engines have reached almost at the limit of development due to the fundamental structural problems. This study was carried out to propose a new concept internal combustion engine which has great potential advantages to the conventional engines. Proposed new concept engine is a kind of rotary engine. A rotor is rotating concentrically in a cylinder which is divided into two partitioning valves. and it makes four compartments in the cylinder. The volumes of each of four compartments are changing continuously with the rotor movement, and performs the functions of intake, compression. expansion and exhaust simultaneously. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. 1. Expected theoretical thermal efficiency is 44.9 percent at the condition of 1000rpm and compression ratio of 8.0. which is almost the same as that of the conventional engines. i.e., piston and Wankel rotary engine. 2. The new concept engine has 2. working strokes in every revolution. Therefore. the new concept engine can reduce the specific weight and volume than four-stroke piston engine. 3. The torque variation is very small. therefore minimal noise and vibration are expectable. 4. The new concept engine can reduce mechanical energy loss than piston engine because neither crank mechanism nor eccentrical motion exists.
