In 2015, symptoms of die-back on Rosa hybrida were observed in Taean, Korea. The aims of this study were to determine the cause of die-back on Rosa hybrida and characterize the pathogen. The fungal isolates were obtained and used for pathogenicity test, morphological and molecular analyses. The pathogenicity test on healthy branches of Rosa hybrida produced die-back, as the original symptoms. For the morphological study, the isolates were inoculated onto potato dextrose agar and incubated for 7 days at $25^{\circ}C$. The colonies grew up quickly and turned white to gray in color. Conidia were observed under an optical microscope. The features of conidia were ellipsoidal, grayish brown in color, $20-31{\times}11-17{\mu}m$ in size and had one septum. Molecular analyses of the ITS region, TEF and TUB genes were conducted to confirm the identity of the pathogen. The phylogenetic tree of the multi-gene sequences indicated that the causal agent was Lasiodiplodia pseudotheobromae. This study is the first report of die-back caused by Lasiodiplodia pseudotheobromae on Rose (Rosa hybrida).
This study was conducted to investigate an optimal condition for shoot proliferation and regenerate shoots from in vitro leaflet and embryogenic calli from in vitro roots in rose. The effect of BAP on shoot proliferation was somewhat different depending upon genotypes or gelling agents. Leaflets with petiole cut from donor shoots which had been cultured in MS medium supplemented with 0.1 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ NAA for six weeks was effective for regeneration of adventitious buds(ABs) as well as shoot elongation of Rosa hybrida cv. Sweet Pink. Culturing seven leaflet explants per petri plate($100mm{\times}15mm$) was effective for regeneration of ABs. Embryogenesis was shown in the calli induced from roots of Rosa hybrida cv. Sweet Pink cultured in the SH medium supplemented with 11 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 2, 4-D for four weeks. Color of calli induced from roots was yellow although their color was a little different as type of basal medium.

This study identifies the basic personality types of subjects who use the healing garden and investigates their plants-preference. The purpose of the study is to provide a basic information about planting plan, considered as a main parts of healing garden. Survey results are stated as follows: First, the order of preference of instinct type tree is Prunus yedoensis, zelkova serrata, Phyllostachys Bambusoides. On the other hands, the order of preference of feeling and thinking type is Prunus yedoensis, zelkova serrata, Metasequoia glyptostroboides. Second, the order of preference of instinct type of flowers is Rosa hybrida, Hibiscus syriacus, Forsythia koreana. However, the preference of emotional type is the order of Rosa hybrida, cosmos bipinnatus, Helianthus annuus and the preference of accident type is the order of Rosa hybrida, Hibiscus syriacus, Helianthus annuus. Third, for the color preferences, instinct type prefer yellow color, feeling type and thinking type prefer red color. Lastly, when people view plants, most personality types are interested in flower firstly, and secondly type of tree and scent. In other words, we can assume that people are interested in the flowers, most noticeable in plants. This study will enhance the effectiveness of the healing garden by providing relevant information regarding healing garden planting plan. Future research should consider to widen the range of target of investigation in order to perform additional comparison analysis.
This study was performed to develop a natural preservative which had the most successful effect on prolonging the vase life of cut flowers Rosa hybrida 'Enjoy'. To determine the effect of sucrose on vase life of cut roses, R. hybrida 'Enjoy', 0, 1, 3 or 5% of sucrose was mixed with Hypnum jutlandicum extract. The result showed that in the case of adding sucrose to extracts from H. jutlandicum, vase life of cut flowers was shortened, along with the cut flowers losing chlorophyll, becoming decolorized and finally showing wilting phenomenon. However, using hydroxy quinoline sulfate (HQS) and extracts from H. jutlandicum together exhibited an improved effect of prolonging vase life, especially when adding 100 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ HQS, which had the effect of prolonging the vase life of R. hybrida 'Enjoy' the most. Regarding pH of extracts, 2 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ of extracts from H. jutlandicum show originally pH 3.8. This was compared with adjusted extract solutions as pH 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0. The results showed that the solution of pH 3.8 had the most successful effect on prolonging the vase life of R. hybrida 'Enjoy'. Given all the results, H. jutlandicum extract (2 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$) and HQS (100 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$) was the most effective in prolonging the vase life of cut R. hybrida 'Enjoy'. Moss is expected to be worth developing as a natural preservative since it is easy to get and causes no damage to the environment.
This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of functional packing materials on vase life and quality of Lilium Oriental hybrid 'Le Reve' and Rosa hybrida 'Fire King'. Lily and rose were stored at $5^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ for two days after packing of 25% calcium or 36% wax coated package. When Lilium Oriental hybrid 'Le Reve' was stored in $5^{\circ}C$ after packing of 36% wax coated package, vase life and maintenance of freshness were improved by two days. But when Rosa hybrida 'Fire King' was stored in $5^{\circ}C$ or $20^{\circ}C$after packing of 25% calcium or 36% wax coated package, vase life and maintenance of freshness were not as effective as Lily. In our opinion, functional package seems useful in the storage of cut lily.
This research was conducted to investigate the possibilities of usage of rose (Rosa hybrida L. cv. Mary Devor) by examining th antioxidative and antimicrobial activities of extracts with various levels of ethanol concentrates. Proximate composition, dietary fiber, and flavonoids contents were analyzed, and total antioxidant status and yield ratios of extraction of rose were measured. The rose extracts were extracted in different level of ethanol concentrates (0, 75, 85, 95%), and peroxide value, acid value, and TBA value were investigated in different level of concentrates of extracts added and time duration of storage. The results were as follows; derivation period from measuring peroxide value showed that the rose (Petal & Calyces) extract-added group showed longer derivation period than the control group, tocopherol-added, or BHT-added groups, and it proved to be a highly effective antioxidant as a result. It showed the longest derivation period especially when 85% ethanol extract was added with concentration of 0.05%. For the acid values and TBA values of the extract added oil, the rose extract-added group and BHT-added group showed lower values than the control group and tocopherol-added group as th length of time for storage becomes longer. In fact, the rose extracts suggested the possibility to be used as a natural antioxidants as it showed high antioxidative effect similar to BHT. Overall, the rose extracts from each solvent showed high antimicrobial effects against Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus than control group. Especially, 85% ethanol extract showed significantly high antimicrobial effect against Escherichia coli.

When it comes to single node leafy stem cuttings of rose (Rosa hybrida), environmental management such as air temperature, relative humidity, and light affect productivity. In order to investigate the effect of air temperature and relative humidity on the cutting success rate and rooted cuttings quality, a transparent airtight box was used to implement a closed system. We have also tried to find out the most effective photoperiod and the number of leaflets in closed system using artificial light (white LED, 104.0 µmol·m-2·s-1 photosynthetic photon flux density). The first experiment was conducted for a total of 6 weeks under 4 airtight period conditions. The number of roots and longest root length decreased as the airtight period increased. But there were no significant differences in the survival rate, shooting rate, and rooting rate according to airtight periods. In the second experiment the results indicated that survival and shooting rate were significantly affected by the photoperiod (0/24, 2/22, 4/20, 8/16, and 16/8 h), the number of leaflets (0, 2, and 4 leaflets) of the cuttings and their interaction. The survival rate was the highest in the 16-h day length and 4 leaflets. By considering survival rate and shooting rate with energy efficiency, the 8-h day length and 2 or 4 leaflets were judged to be the most effective.
This study was conducted to find out the cause of discoloration after pressing yellow-colored flowers. Plant materials used were Lilium Asiatic Hybrids, Oncidium spp., Rosa hybrida, $Tulipa{\times}gesneriana$, Antirrhinum majus, Dianthus caryophyllus, Freesia hybrida, Zantedeschia elliottiana, Gerbera jamesonii, Helianthus annuus, and Ranunculus asiaticus. Thickness, ratio of length to width, and water content of petals did not considerably affect discoloration of pressed flowers. Expression of yellow color in petals was caused by carotenoids in Lilium Asiatic Hybrids, Oncidium spp., Rosa hybrida and $Tulipa{\times}gesneriana$, by flavonoids in Antirrhinum majus, Dianthus caryophyllus, Freesia hybrida and Zantedeschia elliottiana, and by coexistence of carotenoids and flavonoids in Gerbera jamesonii, Helianthus annuus and Ranunculus asiaticus. Carotenoids that expressed yellow color in petals affected significantly on discoloration in pressed flowers containing carotenoids alone or both carotenoids and flavonoids. However, discoloration was hardly ever found in yellow-colored species as affected by flavonoids. Dark treatment was effective for almost perfect preservation in color of pressed flowers, while light treatment resulted in severe discoloration.
The study was conducted to investigate the effect of rootstock on growth and early yield of stenting-propagated cut roses (Rosa hybrida Hort.) 'Pink Aurora' and 'Yellow King'. The scions, prepared as single-node cuttings, each with a five-leaflet leaf, were grafted onto cuttings of Rosa indica 'Major', Rosa multiflora 'Chille Wonye No. 1', Rosa multiflora 'K-1', or Rosa multiflora 'Burr' as the rootstock. The rootstock cuttings were removed of all leaves and buds before grafting. The base of scion and the top of rootstock were held together and simultaneously cut at a $45^{\circ}$ angle for ease of grafting. Scion-rootstock unions were stuck in rockwool cubes and placed on a misted glasshouse bench for rooting before being transplanted into a rockwool slabs for cultivation. Rooting was the greatest in the 'Pink Aurora' and 'Yellow King' grafted on the rootstock Rosa indica 'Major'. In 'Pink Aurora', stem length, stem diameter, five-leaflet leaves per stem, and stem fresh weight of the harvested cut flowers were not affected by the rootstock. The greatest total yield of 'Pink Aurora' was obtained in plants grafted onto the Rosa indica 'Major' rootstock. Overall growth of 'Yellow King' was the greatest in plants grafted onto Rosa multiflora 'Burr' rootstock, although total yield was not affected by the rootstock. These results suggest that Rosa indica 'Major' is the most effective rootstock not only for rooting, but also for early yield and growth for stenting propagation of these cut roses.
