The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of canal irrigants and smear layer on the property of apical seal. Fourty-five canals from human teeth were randomly selected and divided into 5 groups according to the irrigants used in conjunction with instrumentation. The irrigants were RC-prep in combination with Naocl, Citric acid, Naocl, Naocl in combination with $H_2O_2$, and normal saline solution. After instrumention and dry the canal with paper point, the canals were obturated by lateral condensation of Zinc-oxide eugenol sealer and gutta percha cone. All the specimens were immersed in 2% methylene blue dye solution for 7 days and the depth of dye penetration into the canals was evaluated by macros cope. The following results were obtained. 1. All the canals experimented showed varying degree of dye penetration. 2. There was no significant difference in depth of dye penetration between the groups known to be effective and ineffective in the removal of the smear layer. 3. The canals irrigated with NaOCl alone showed the highest dye penetration and mean leakage was 7.7 mm. 4. In the canals irrigated with RC-prep in combination with Naocl and citric acid, the mean dye penetration was 5.5 mm and 4.8 mm respectively, and the canals irrigated with NaOCl in combination with $H_2O_2$ and normal saline solution revealed mean dye penetration of 3.9 mm.
Endodontically treated teeth are usually restored for crown protection, aesthetics, and prevention of root canal recontamination. Restoration of these teeth, however, often requires intracanal posts. Various depths and techniques have been recommended for the preparation of post space. Therefore the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect that pst preparation has on the coronal seal by linear dye penetration of root canals obturated by lateral condensation, vertical condensation, and thermafil techniques. Forty canals of roots of incisors and canines were cleaned and shaped with the use of a step-back technique. Thirty canals were obturated, 10 each with lateral, vertical, and thermafil techhniques. Five root canals were obturated without a root canal sealer and served as positive controls. Another five root canals were obturated, and their coronal half was sealed with sticky wax and served as negative controls. The apical 5 to 6mm of the filling materials were exposed to india ink for 48 hours. The depth of dye penetration was measured in all groups and statistically analyzed (ANOVA). The results were as follows. 1. The apical plugs in the thermafil groups had the highest degree of coronal dye leakage. 2. The group filled by vertical condensation technique had the lowest degree of coronal dye leakage. 3. No significant statistical difference was found in the amount of coronal dye leakage in canals filled by lateral condensation versus those filled by the veritcal condensation technique. 4. Significant statistical differences in coronal dye penetration were found between the canals filled by thermafil and those filled by the lateral or vertical condensation techniques (p<0.05).

Biomechanical preparation of root canals with accentuated curvature is challenging. New rotatory systems, such as Reciproc, require a shorter period of time to prepare curved canals, and became a viable alternative for endodontic treatment of teeth with root dilaceration. Thus, this study aimed to report a clinical case of endodontic therapy of root with accentuated dilaceration using Reciproc single-file system. Mandibular right second molar was diagnosed as asymptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Pulp chamber access was performed, and glide path was created with #10 K-file (Dentsply Maillefer) and PathFile #13, #16 and #19 (Dentsply Maillefer) up to the temporary working length. The working length measured corresponded to 20 mm in the mesio-buccal and mesio-lingual canals, and 22 mm in the distal canal. The R25 file (VDW GmbH) was used in all the canals for instrumentation and final preparation, followed by filling with Reciproc gutta-percha cones (VDW GmbH) and AH Plus sealer (Dentsply Maillefer), using thermal compaction technique. The case has been receiving follow-up for 6 mon and no painful symptomatology or periapical lesions have been found. Despite the difficulties, the treatment could be performed in a shorter period of time than the conventional methods.
The purpose of this study was to observe the effect of canal filling on the bacteria left in the dentinal tubules and to compare the sealing ability between Gutta-percha and Resilon. The bovine dentin block models were prepared E. faecalis was inoculated to dentin blocks and incubated. The dentin blocks were divided into 5 groups. Group 1 was the negative control. Group 2 was the positive control. Group 3 was filled with ZOE based sealer and Gutta-percha, Group 4 with resin based sealer and Gutta-percha, and Group 5 with resin based sealer and Resilon. After 24 hour, the blocks were incubated at $37^{\circ}C$ for 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks on BHI agar plates. The internal dentin portion of the blocks was removed using ISO 027, 029, 031, 035 round burs and the dentin chips were incubated at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hour Following incubation, the optical density of the medium was measured. The data were statistically analysed using repeated measures ANOVA and one-way ANOVA. The results were as follows, 1. There. was statistically significant reduction in the number of E. faecalis of the group where dentinal tubules were completely sealed with nail varnish in comparison with the groups obturated with gutta-percha or resilon (p < 0.05). 2. In group 5, the number of E. faecalis in the dentinal tubules decreased significantly with time (p < 0.05). whereas in Group 3 and 4, there was no reduction in its number (p > 0.05). 3. Under the conditions of this experiment, E. faecalis survived up to 4 weeks after obturation with gutta-percha or resilon (p > 0.05).
I. Objectives The aim of this was to evaluate the use possibility of light curing flowable composite resins as a luting agent for translucent fiber posts. II. Materials and Methods 20 single-rooted maxillary central incisors were selected and crown was sectioned below the cemento-enamel junction to obtain a 13 mm ling root. Root canals were filed, cleaned, and shaped to #40 with K-file. Prepared canals were filled with gutta percha and AH26 root canal sealer by lateral condensation method. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between linear and volumetric measurements of apical dye penetration in canals obturated by various kinds of methods. The canals of 108 roots without crown were conventionally prepared and randomly assigned to four group. The canals of group I a2 were obturated by lateral condensation with sealer, group II a2 by thermoplasticized low-temperature ($70^{\circ}C$) gutta-percha with sealer, group III by Thermafil endodntic obturation with sealer and group IV by injection-molded thermop-lasticized guttapercha One mm of root apex was exposed to a 2 % methylene blue solution at $7^{\circ}C$or 10 days, and the quality of apical seals was assessed by measuring the leakage linearly and volumetrically. The obtained results were as follows: In linear measurements, group II showed significanty less leakage than group III, I and group III also showed less than group N, but no statistically significant difference was demonstrated between the others. In volumetric measurements, group II showed significantly less leakage than group I and II, and no significant differnce from group III. There was a weak significant correlation between the linear measurement and the volumetric measurement(r=0.3391, P<0.001).
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the sealing ability of the Microseal$^{(R)}$, which was new obturation system made by Tycom company, U.S.A. Forty-five extracted single-rooted human teeth were resected at cemento-enamel junction and divided three groups. All canals were prepared using Profile system, and then each group was obturated by lateral condensation technique (group 1), vertical condensation technique (group 2) and Microseal$^{(R)}$ condensation technique (group 3) with root canal sealer. Teeth were immersed in resorcinol-formaldehyde resin for 5 days at $4^{\circ}C$ and the resin was allowed to polymerize completely for 4 days at room temperature. Teeth were resected horizontally at 1 mm (level I), 2 mm (level II), 3 mm (level III) from the anatomical root apex using low speed microtome and examined with Image analyzer (IBASR, Zeiss co., Germany.) at ${\times}25$ magnification. The gab between the canal wall and the filling material, which was filled with the resin, was measured at each of the three levels. Each ratio of leakage was expressed percentage by calculating the ratio of the area of the resin to the total area of the canal and was analyzed statistically (one-way ANOVA). The results were as follows; 1. The mean ratio of leakage (%) was 6.46% at group 1, 3.06% at group 2, 11.27% at group 3. 2. When evaluating the ratio of leakage at the three levels, there was level I> level II> level III in all groups. Especially, the difference between level I and level III was statistically significant (p<0.05). 3. When evaluating the ratio of leakage at the three groups, there was group 3> group 1> group 2 at all levels. Especially the difference between group 2 and group 3 was statistically significant (p<0.05).

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy of the S1 reciprocating system and the D-Race retreatment rotary system for filling material removal and the apical extrusion of debris. Materials and Methods: Sixty-four freshly extracted maxillary canines were shaped with size 10 and size 15 K-files, instrumented using ProTaper Gold under irrigation with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), obturated according to the principle of thermo-mechanical condensation with gutta-percha and zinc oxide eugenol sealer, and allowed to set for 3 weeks at 37℃. Subsequently, the teeth were divided into a control group (n = 4), the D-Race rotary instrument group (n = 30), and the S1 reciprocating instrument group (n = 30). After classical retreatment, the canals were subjected to a complementary approach with the XP-Endo Shaper. Desocclusol was used as a solvent, and irrigation with 2.5% NaOCl was performed. Each group was divided into subgroups according to the timing of radiographic readings. The images were imported into a software program to measure the remaining filling material, the apical extrusion, and the root canal space. The data were statistically analyzed using the Z-test and JASP graphics software. Results: No significant differences were found between the D-Race and S1 groups for primary retreatment; however, using a complementary cleaning method increased the removal of remnant filling (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Classical removal of canal filling material may not be sufficient for root canal disinfection, although a complementary finishing approach improved the results. Nevertheless, all systems left some debris and caused apical extrusion.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the sealing ability of ZOE, FR and AH-26. Seventy two upper and lower anterior and premolor teeth were randomly selected and instrumented in a conventional method with K-file. After instrumentation and dry the canal, the teeth were divided into 3 groups and twenty four teeth in each group were filled with ZOE, FR, and AH-26 respectively. All the specimens were immersed into Indian Ink and decalcified in nitric acid and cleared in methyl salicylate. The apical leakage was evaluated by measuring the degree of ink penetration with caliper at the intervals of 1 day, 7 days and 14 days. The results were as follows; 1. In AH-26 and FR groups, there was increase in penetration related to increased time of immersion in the ink. 2. FR group showed the least penetration in 3 groups. 3. Statistics showed that there was no significant difference among the each sealer groups.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate for the cytotoxicity of root canal sealers - Tubliseal, N2, AH26, and Sealapex - on fibroblasts cultivated from human periodontal ligament. Succinate dehydrogenase activity test and $^{51}Cr$ release test were performed to evaluate the shortterm cytotoxicity. According to l,3 and 6 days vital cell count and $^{14}C$-leucine incorporation rate to fibroblasts were evaluated. The results of this study were as follows: 1. In the test of SDH activity by millipore filter method, Sealapex showed mild cytotoxicity but Tubliseal, N2 and AH26 showed severe cytotoxicity. 2. In $^{51}Cr$ release test, Tubliseal was the most cytotoxic sealer tested, and rank ordered the relative cytotoxicity of the other sealers tested as follows: AH26, N2, Sealapex. 3. In the test of viable cell count, cytotoxicity in Tubliseal was continued because vital cell number reduced with time. Because vital cell was not showed in N2 and AH26 at 1 day, it was recognized that N2 and AH26 exhibited severe cytotoxicity. In Sealapex, vital cell number increased remarkably with time, so it showed that cytotoxicity decreased with time. 4. In $^{14}C$-leucine incorporation rate test, protein sythesis was not produced in Tubliseal, N2 and AH26 after 3 days, it showed that cytotoxicity in Tubliseal, N2 and AH26 was severe. Although protein synthesis in Sealapex decreased with time, it continued after 6 days. Therefore Sealapex has been exhibited mild cytotoxicity.
