  • Metallic sandwich plates with Inner dimpled shell subjected to 3-point bending have been analyzed and then optimized for minimum weight. Inner dimpled shells can be easily fabricated by press or roll with high quality precision and bonded with same material skin sheets by resistance welding or adhesive bonding process. Optimized shape of inner dimple is a hemispherical shell to minimize weight without failure, including face yielding, face buckling and inner dimple buckling. It is demonstrated that bending stiffness of sandwich plate is 2 or 3 times than solid plates with same strength

  • In this study, 3 dimensional non-linear race car vehicle model including Chassis, steering and suspension systems were modeled by using Multi-Body Dynamics Simulation Program, DADS 9.5(Dynamic Analysis and Design System),which was used in kinematic and dynamic analysis. A full race car vehicle dynamics model using DADS program was presented and analysis was carried out to estimate the handling characteristics that may be very useful to design a race car in early design stage. The simulation of vehicle handling behavior for step steering input was simulated and compared with different design parameters: torsional stiffness of the front and rear anti roll bars, the motion ratio of the front and rear suspension system, the location of the tie rod joint, in multibody dynamic model. Therefore this simulation model before race car construction in early design step will be helpful for race car designer to save time and limited budget.

  • This article deals with the introduction of longitudinal instability of liquid rocket (pogo) and the analytical results on the frequency responses of KSR-III propulsion feeding system. Both the stiffness of bellows and the cavitation volume of venturi affect the frequency response of the feeding system. Especially, bellows has a great roll to reduce the natural frequency of the feeding system. Also, oxidizer and fuel feeding systems of the KSR-III have natural frequencies of ${\~}280Hz\;and\;{\~}90Hz$, respectively.

  • This study proposes a design methodology to determine the optimum configurations of the optical flying head (OFH) for near-field recording systems. Since the OFH requires stricter static and dynamic characteristics of slider air-bearings within an optical tilt tolerance over the entire recording band, an optimum design to keep the focusing and tracking ability stable is essential. The desired flying characteristics considered in this study are to minimize the variation in flying height between the SIL and the disk from a target value, satisfying the restriction of the minimum flying height, to keep the pitch and roll angles within an optical tilt tolerance, and to ensure a higher air-bearing stiffness. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design methodology by showing that the static and dynamic flying characteristics of the optimally designed OFH are enhanced in comparison with those of the initial. The gap between the SIL and the disk can be kept at less than 100 nm even if the optical tilt tolerance of the SIL is considered.

  • This paper presents an approach to optimally design the air-bearing surface (ABS) of the optical flying head for near-field recording technology (NFR). NFR is an optical recording technology using very small beam spot size by overcoming the limit of beam diffraction. One of the most Important problems in NFR is a head disk interface (HDI) issue over the recording band during the operation. A multi-criteria optimization problem is formulated to enhance the flying performances over the entire recording band during the steady state. The optimal solution of the slider, whose target flying height is 50 nm, is automatically obtained. The flying height during the steady state operation becomes closer to the target values than those fur the initial one. The pitch and roll angles are also kept within suitable ranges over the recording band. Especially, all of the air-bearing stiffness are drastically increased by the optimized geometry of the air bearing surface.

  • In this study was made the flutter analysis for the export model of Firefly(Bandi-ho), the small canard aircraft. Stiffness model based on internal load generation finite element model was generated. Mass model based on the weight DB for weight control was generated. Aerodynamic model based on Doublet Lattice Method was generated. Preliminary flutter analysis was made. Based on it, major vibration modes are identified and experimentally obtained via the ground vibration test. The obtained normal mode frequencies were used to correlate the finite element model. Flutter analysis was made again and major flutter mechanisms were summarized. The most important flutter root was identified as a coupled root between rigid body roll mode and anti-symmetric wing pitching mode.

  • This paper presents bisymmetric dual iron core lineal motor stage for heavy-duty high precision applications such as large area micro-grooving machines or high precision roll die machines. In this stage, two iron core linear motors are installed in laterally symmetric way to cancel out the attractive forces. Main focus was given to analyzing the effect of cogging force and moment for two different layouts, which are symmetric and half-pitch shifted ones. Experimental results showed that the symmetric layout is more adequate for high precision applications because of its clear moment cancellation effect. It was also verified that the effect of the residual cogging moment can be suppressed further by increasing the bearing stiffness. One problem of the symmetric layout is added cogging force which hinders smooth motion, but its effect was relatively small compared with that of moment cancellation.

  • This paper summarises theoretical and experimental work on the feedback control of sound radiation from honeycomb panels using piezoceramic actuators. It is motivated by the problem of sound transmission in aircraft, specifically the active control of trim panels. Trim panels are generally honeycomb structures designed to meet the design requirement of low weight and high stiffness. They are resiliently-mounted to the fuselage for the passive reduction of noise transmission. Local coupling of the closely-spaced sensor and actuator was observed experimentally and modelled using a single degree of freedom system. The effect of the local coupling was to roll-off the response between the actuator and sensor at high frequencies, so that a feedback control system can have high gain margins. Unfortunately, only relatively poor global performance is then achieved because of localisation of reduction around the actuator. This localisation prompts the investigation of a multichannel active control system. Globalised reduction was predicted using a model of 12 channel direct velocity feedback control. The multichannel system, however, does not appear to yield a significant improvement in the performance because of decreased gain margin.

  • This paper evaluates dynamic performance of a cab over type large-sized truck for estimating the effects of frame's torsional characteristics using a computer model. The computer model considers two mounting methods of frame, flange mounting and web mounting. Frame is modeled by finite elements using MSC/NASTRAN In order to consider the flexibility of frame. The torsional test of the frame is conducted In order to validate the modeled finite element model. A load cell is used to measure the load applied to the frame. An angle sensor is used to measure the torsional angle. An actuator is used to apply a load to the frame. To estimate the effects of frame's torsional characteristics on dynamic performance, simulations are performed with the flange mounting and web mounting frame. Simulation results show that the web mounting frame's variations of roll angle, lateral acceleration, and yaw rate are larger than the flange mounting frame's variations, especially in the high velocity and the second part of the double lane course.
