체적변수를 이용한 로크웰 경도 모델링 (Rockwell Hardness Modeling Using Volumetric Variable)

  • A new Rockwell hardness (HRC) model using a volumetric parameter by a least square and fractal interpolation method is suggested. The results are also investigated in comparison to real measured hardness data. For this purpose, the measurement of an indented volume is performed using a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM), and the captured height encoded image (HEI) is used as an original surface for the calculation of the indented volume. After configuring the surface, the constructed volume is calculated and used as an independent variable for HRC hardness modeling. The hardness model is established using an experimental modeling technique involving a least square algorithm and fractal interpolating model, and this suggested model can be used to reliably predict the Rockwell hardness. These techniques can also be applied to the modeling of the Brinnell and Vickers hardnesses using a volumetric variable.

압입 표면형상의 구현과 체적계산법 (Indented Surface Configuration and its Volume Calculation)

  • The indented geometry for rockwell hardness indenter has been configured by using Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM). For this purpose, the CLSM can be well suited to construct the three-dimensional indented volume from the indented surface by rockwell hardness tester. Furthermore, the height data of HEI(height encoded image) by CLSM must be acquired at first and converted to indented surface later. And the indented surface patterns enable us to predict the indenter shape and volume. This volume can be used to study the rockwell hardness model as a volume parameter. As a result, the technique performed in this study by combining the CLSM with compensation technique is an excellent one to obtain the geometries of indented surfaces over a wide range of surface resolution in a micro scale. And it can be used for micro volume calculation.

로크웰 경도도 순회 비교측정 결과에 대한 분석 (Analysis on the Results of the Rockwell Hardness Round Robin Test)

  • To improve the reliability of hardness test results, Rockwell hardness round robin test was carried out for 10 laboratories. The test condition was the same with the ISO(International Standards Organization) standards. Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science(KRISS) supplied the hardness standard blocks and an indenter to laboratories for the measurement. The participating laboratories measured hardness of the specified areas on the blocks for 6 times with their own indenter as well as common indenter, respectively, and reported the results to KRISS. The result showed that quite large amount of the differences came from the indenter and it is necessary to change indenter with better quality for improved reliability in hardness measurement.

  • Recently, uncertainty of hardeness became a major concem for the people working on the laboratory evaluation and accreditation. It is required to indicate uncertainty of hardness tester on the report after calibration. In addition to this, uncertainty of certified hardness reference block is also required to indicate on the certification sheet. Method on the evaluation of uncertainty in hardness measurement is agreed only recently for Rockwell hardness C scale. In this paper, a preliminary calculation of uncertainty based on type B evaluation has been made for hardness testers which satisfies the requirements of Korean Standards. It was found that the tolerance limit of mean value specified in KS should be increased to be compatible with the calculated uncertainty.

로크웰 경도 국제비교교정 결과 분석 (Analysis on the Results of the World Wide Rockwell Hardness Round Robin Test with Conical Indenters)

  • For the establishment of the world wide unified scales of the Rockwell hardness test with conical indenters, round robin test was carried from 1998 to 2000. The pilot laboratory was MPA-NRW and 12 laboratories from 11 countries participated In this RRT. Rockwell hardness of 74 specially prepared blocks was measured for the scales of C, A, D, 45N, 30N, and 15N and the results were compared. It was found that the geometric form of indenter affects on the results very significantly and standardization in the measurement and evaluation of indenter should be established in short time for the reliable hardness measurement. KRISS showed good results in general for all of the ranges except 15N scale which showed relatively large difference compare to the mean value. It was concluded that poor control in loading velocity of the dash pot was the major reason.

치과용 Co-Cr 합금의 제성질에 미치는 Boron과 Silicon의 영향 (Effect Boron and Silicon on Various Properties of Dental Cobalt-Chromium Alloys)

  • This paper aims to investigate the effect of B and Si upon the mechanical properties, microstructure and corrosion resistance of Co-Cr base alloy. Ten groups of alloy ingot ingot with various contents of B and Si were remelted by high frequency electrical induction furnace and cast into tensile specimen of ADA Specification No. 14 Tensile and hardness test were carried out by Amsler and Rockwell hardness tester(R-30N), respectively. The microstructures of specimen were observed by SEM. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. As B content is increased, tensile strength, yield strength and Rockwell hardness number(R-30N) are also increased significantly, while the elongation is decreased significantly. 2. As Si contect os increased, no significant chang in tensile strength is noticed, yield strength is slightly decreased, but Rockwell hardness number(R-30N) is moderately in creased, Elongation marks maxium value with 1% Si content while with more than 1% Si it is decreased. 3. As B content is increased corrosion resistance is decreased and is at best with 1.5% B content. Corrosion resistance is increased with the increase of Si content and the alloys with Si over 3.0% showed corrosion resistance. 4. As B content increased, precipitates are increased in number at grain boundaries. The grain size tends to become coarse with the increase of Si content. 5. Co rich-Cr alloy is present through matrix whereas at the grain boundaries Cr base precipitates are primarily formed.

Effect of Isothermal Aging on the Magnetic Properties of 1Cr-0.5Mo Steel

  • Magnetic properties and Rockwell hardness of 1Cr-0.5Mo steel have been investigated as a function of isothermal aging time. Our results showed that coercivity, hysteresis loss and Rockwell hardness in the aged samples decreased as aging time increased. This phenomenon was analyzed using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. A significant diffusion of Cr and Mo atoms formed $M_2C$ and $M_7C$ carbides, lowering the matrix strength. $M_2C$ and $M_7C$ carbides partially segregated inside grains, diffused into grain boundaries, and finally resulted in a soft ferrite matrix and a hard grain boundary. The magnetic and mechanical softening of the matrix is likely to govern the properties of the sample more than the hardening of the grain boundary by carbide precipitations.

  • The purpose of this studies is to determine the surface hardness of dental stone and to investigate the methods which increase the surface hardness of dental stone using the dissolved solution of various synthetic resin, the obtained results of hardness value calculated Rockwell Hardness Number by means of Rockwell Hardness Tester. 1) In this experiment, 10% polystyrene dissolved in 100cc amylacetate is excellent solution which provides the surface hardness of dental stone after setting of specimen, and there is no effective way that stone specimen is immersed into polystyrene in amylacetate, polystyrene in benzene and polystyrene in butylacetate above 1 hour. 2) When the stone specimen is immersed into acrylic resin in benzene and melamin resin in amylacetate at least 1 hour to 3 hours, the hardening effect of stone surface is valuable. 3) The stone specimen immersing into urea resin in butylacetate, the surface hardness of the stone specimen decreased within 1 hour, but increased after 3 houre. 4) For the separating medium, the easyfoil is superior to the olive oil in the aspect of improving the hardening effect of the immersed specimen.

시험시간 관련인자가 로크웰 경도측정에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Time-Related Parameters on Rockwell Hardness Measurement)

  • 로크웰 경도시험 조건 중에서 시간과 관련이 있는 인자들이 경도측정 결과에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 대상 소재는 PE, PP PVC, PMMA이었으며 압입속도, 시험하중 유지시간, 그리고 계기판독 시점 등을 중심으로 시험한 결과 탄성이 큰 소재일수록 이들 인자들의 영향을 크게 받는 것으로 나타났다. 시험에 소요되는 시간 등을 고려하였을 때 최적 시험 조건은 각기 4, 15, 15초 이었으며 이 기준에 따라 순회 비교시험을 실시하였다. 순회 비교시험 결과 고분자소재의 경도를 제대로 측정하려면 부가하중을 제하하고 나서 계기판독 시점인 15초의 시간을 유지할 수 있는 기능이 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 황동 기준편으로 경도시험기를 간접 검증하는 것만으로는 탄성 회복력이 좋은 고분자 소재의 특성 때문에 경도 측정값의 신뢰도를 보증할 수 없는 것으로 나타났다.

토기의 경도측정법 연구: 백제시대 배(杯)류를 중심으로 (Study on the Hardness Measurement of Earthenware : Focusing on the Cup of the Baekje)

  • 풍납토성에서 출토된 한성백제시대 토기를 중심으로 다양한 경도측정 방법을 적용하여 토기의 굳기에 따른 적절한 측정방법 및 조건을 연구하였다. 연구를 위한 토기시료는 육안관찰과 모스경도계를 이용하여 굳기의 서열별로 선정하였으며, 표면 경도측정에는 초음파 및 에코팁 경도측정법을 적용하였고, 단면에는 로크웰 표충경도(로크웰 슈퍼피셜)와 마이크로비커스 경도측정법을 적용하였다. 그 결과, 표면 경도에서는 두 방법 모두 정밀한 측정에 많은 어려움이 있었으며 육안 및 모스경도에 따른 분류와 일치하는 경향성을 관찰할 수 없었다. 단면 경도측정 결과에서는, 로크웰 표충경도 측정법의 경우, 연질 토기의 측정에 보다 유리한 것으로 나타났으며, 1/16" 강구 압입자를 사용하여 15kgf의 시험하중으로 측정할 경우 가장 재현성이 좋은 측정값을 얻을 수 있음을 확인하였다. 반면, 마이크로비커스 측정법의 경우, 경질 토기의 측정에 보다 유리한 특성을 보였으며, 시험하중 100gf에서 가장 재현성과 정밀도가 높은 측정값을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한, 로크웰 표충경도법과 마이크로비커스 측정법은 모두 그 측정값이 고고학적 견해에 따른 육안분류와 거의 일치하는 경향성을 나타내었다. 이러한 결과는 향후 토기에 대한 고고학적 견해의 객관성을 뒷받침할 수 있는 매우 유용한 도구로써 기계적 경도측정값이 이용될 수 있음을 보여주는 것으로, 향후 이를 이용한 활발한 연구가 가능해 질 것으로 판단된다.
