This paper describes the design and evaluation of a noise suppressing hydrophone that is robust to external noise without sacrificing its performance as a receiver. To increase robustness of the receiver to the external noise, first, effects of location of external noise on its performance are analyzed with the finite element method (FEM). Based on the results, geometrical variations are implemented on the structure with additional air pockets and damping layers that work as acoustic shields or scatterers of the noise, and fourteen trial models are developed for the noise suppressing hydrophone structures. The results show that the effect of the external noise is most significant when it is applied to near the mid-side surface of the hydrophone housing. The external noise is isolated most efficiently when two thin damping layers combined with five air pockets are inserted to the circumference of the hydrophone housing. Overall, of the fourteen structural variations of the hydrophone, the best one shows about 87% reduction in the response of the original structure to external noise.
Conventional acoustic echo cancellers using ES algorithm have simple structure and fast convergence speed compared with those using NLMS algorithm, but they are very weak to external noise because ES algorithm updates the adaptive filter taps based on average energy reduction rate of room impulse response in specific acoustical condition. To solve this problem, in this paper, a new update algorithm for acoustic echo canceller with stepsize matrix generator is proposed. A set of stepsizes is determined based on residual error energy which is estimated by two moving average operators, and applied to the echo canceller in matrix from, resulting in improved convergence speed. Simulations in various noise condition show that the proposed algorithm improves the robustness of acoustic echo canceller to external noise.

The combined rotational and translational dynamic vibration absorbers (DVA) with no dampers for the beam vibration control can effectively isolate the vibration within the external excitation force region. This paper investigates the damping efficacy for the combined rotational and translational dynamic vibration absorbers to impose some robustness to the DVA system for the excitation force frequency variation. The beam is assumed to be subjected to a concentrated harmonic excitation force. The solution to the problem is found based on Galerkin method.
Although many methods about the control of irregular external noise have been introduced and implemented, it is still necessary to design a controller that will be more effective and efficient methods to exclude for various noises. Accumulation of errors due to model tracking, internal noises (thermal noise, shot noise and 1/f noise) that come from elements such as resistor, diode and transistor etc. in the circuit system and numerical errors due to digital process often destabilize the system and reduce the system performance. New stochastic controller is adopted to remove those noises using conventional controller simultaneously. Design method of a model tracking dual controller is proposed to improve the stability of system while removing external and internal noises. In the study, design process of the model tracking dual stochastic controller is introduced that improves system performance and guarantees robustness under irregular internal noises which can be created internally. The model tracking dual stochastic controller utilizing F-P-K stochastic control technique developed earlier is implemented to reveal its performance via simulation.

Conventional acoustic echo cancelers using ES(Exponentially weighted Stepsize) algorithm have simple operational configuration and fast convergence speed batter then NLMS algorithm, but they are very weak in external noise because ES algorithm updates filter taps using an average energy reduction rate of room impulse response in specific acoustical condition. So, a new configuration of acoustic echo canceler with stepsize generator and selector is proposed in this thesis. The proposed stepsize generator and selector improve conventional acoustic echo canceler's weakness in external noise and improve the system robustness. The stepsize generator generates additional stepsize value using moving averager, which is the residual noise energy of error signal multiplied by constant ${\gamma}$. The stepsize selector selects the stepsize value that has better performance in an acoustic echo canceler using a coefficient decision factor ${\Delta}_{differ}$ The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm reduces residual error by 5[dB] to 10[dB], improves misadjustment regardless of external noise's SNR.
Using disturbance observer (DOB) is effective in enhancing the performance of dynamic system in the presence of disturbances. Recently the definition of disturbance has been expanded to modeling uncertainty including parameter variation, internal disturbance. Various structures of DOB have been proposed to improve sensitivity of system for better disturbance rejection performance. However in the case of improvement of sensitivity function, it tends to bring poor transient response due to cross-coupling and phase lag. Furthermore it could be very sensitive to measurement noise due to increased peak of complementary sensitivity function. In this paper, a dual disturbance observer (Dual-DOB) is proposed to reduce the effect of such cross-coupling. It is possible for us to improve the sensitivity function with additional external DOB with hardly affecting complementary sensitivity function. Thus it is able to have robustness against measurement noise. Since we are able to design DOBs of internal and external loop independently, we could prevent transient response quality from degrading while improving the sensitivity function. The proposed Dual-DOB is applied to a commercial optical disk drive tracking servo system. The experimental result shows that the Dual-DOB is an effective method in rejecting the disturbance as well as improving the tracking performance.

This article describes a robust state estimation method which enables to produce reliable estimates in spite of heavy perturbation including plant uncertainty and external disturbances. The main idea is to combine the standard state estimator with the perturbation observer in the estimator frame. The perturbation observer reflects equivalent quantity of plant uncertainty and external disturbances during the estimation process so that the state estimator dynamics gets as close as possible to the real plant dynamics. The robust state estimator proposed in this paper is given in a recursive discrete-time form which is very useful fur implementation purpose. In terms of the error dynamics derived for the robust state estimator, we discuss the stability issue and noise sensitivity. The effectiveness and practicality of the robust state estimator are verified through numerical examples and experimental results.

In the present work, vibration control performance of active camera mount system for unmanned aero vehicle (UAV) is evaluated. An active mount featuring inertia type of piezostack actuator is designed and manufactured. Then, vibration control performances are experimentally evaluated. A camera mount system with four active mounts is constructed and mechanical model is established. The governing equation for the camera mount system is obtained and control model is constructed in state space model. Sliding mode controller which has inherent robustness to external disturbance is designed and implemented to the system. Vibration control performances are evaluated at each mount and center of gravity point. Effective vibration performances are obtained and presented in time and frequency domains.

The active structural control has emerged as structural safety of structures against natural loadings such as earthquake and wind loadings. Of many control algorithms, Sliding-Mode Control (SMC) can design both linear controller and nonlinear controller. The robustness against parameter variations as well as excitation uncertainties that is imparted to the SMC due to its nonlinear control action, could make SMC an attractive control algorithm when dealing with structures where the external excitation constitutes the main uncertainty in the system. This paper demonstrates experimentally the efficacy of the SMC algorithm based on the active mass driver system in reducing the response of seismically excited buildings. The SMC control strategy is verified with the experimental study on the one-story building model equipped with the active mass driver.
