In this paper we propose an input/output model based fault diagnosis method to detect and isolate single faults in the robot arm control system. The proposed algorithm is functionally composed of three main parts-parameter estimation, fault detection, and isolation, When a change in the system occurs, the errors between the system output and the estimated output cross a predetermined threshold, and once a fault in the system is detected, and in this zone the estimated parameters are transferred to the fault classifier by ART2(adaptive resonance theory 2) neural network for fault isolation. Since ART2 neural network is an unsupervised neural network fault classifier does not require the knowledge of all possible faults to isolate the faults occurred in the system. Simulations are carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed ...

Numerous applications of position controlling devices using servoing technique and transmission of energy through belt drives are practiced in the industry. Belt drive is a simple, lightweight, low cost power transmission system. Belt drives provide freedom to position the motor relative to the load and this phenomenon enables reduction of the robot arm inertia. It also facilitates quick response when employed in robotics. In this paper, precision positioning of a belt driven mechanism using a feed-forward compensator under maximum acceleration and velocity constraints is proposed. The proposed method plans the desired trajectory and modifies it to compensate delay dynamics and vibration. Being an offline method, the proposed method could be easily and effectively adopted to the existing systems without any modification of the hardware setup. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through computer simulation and experimental results.

Linear controllers, such as LQG/LTR controller, have been investigated to control flexible link manipulators. The performance and complexity of these depend largely on the linearized model upon which the controller is designed. In this study, singular perturbation model is tested in designing a LQG/LTR controller for a flexible link manipulator. The order of the resulting controller is much lower than the one based on a full model. Through numerical study, it is shown that the performance of the proposed controller reaches reasonably to the one based on the full model.

These days, ICT-related products are pouring out due to development of mobile technology and increase of smart phones. Among the ICT-related products, wearable devices are being spotlighted with the advent of hyper-connected society. In this paper, a body-attached type wearable device using EMG(electromyography) sensors is studied. The research field of EMG sensors is divided into two parts. One is medical area and another is control device area. This study corresponds to the latter that is a method of transmitting user's manipulation intention to robots, games or computers through the measurement of EMG. We used commercial device MYO developed by Thalmic Labs in Canada and matched up EMG of arm muscles with gesture controller. In the experiment part, first of all, various arm motions for controlling devices are defined. Finally, we drew several distinguishing kinds of motions through analysis of the EMG signals and substituted a joystick with the motions.
The paper presents dual arm ROV manipulation using deep reinforcement learning. The purpose of this underwater manipulator is to investigate and excavate natural resources in ocean, finding lost aircraft blackboxes and for performing other extremely dangerous tasks without endangering humans. This research work emphasizes on a self-learning approach using Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL). DRL technique allows ROV to learn the policy of performing manipulation task directly, from raw image data. Our proposed architecture maps the visual inputs (images) to control actions (output) and get reward after each action, which allows an agent to learn manipulation skill through trial and error method. We have trained our network in simulation. The raw images and rewards are directly provided by our simple Lua simulator. Our simulator achieve accuracy by considering underwater dynamic environmental conditions. Major goal of this research is to provide a smart self-learning way to achieve manipulation in highly dynamic underwater environment. The results showed that a dual robotic arm trained for a 3DOF movement successfully achieved target reaching task in a 2D space by considering real environmental factor.

Belt drives provide freedom to position the motor relative to the load and this phenomenon enables reduction of the robot arm inertia. It also facilitates quick response when employed in robotics. Unfortunately, the flexible dynamics deteriorates the positioning accuracy. Therefore, there exists a trade-off between the simplicity of the control strategy to reject time varying disturbance caused by flexibility of the belt and precision in performance. Resonance of the system further leads to vibrations and poor accuracy in positioning. In this paper, accurate positioning of a belt driven mechanism using a feed-forward compensator under maximum acceleration and velocity constraints is proposed. The proposed method plans the desired trajectory and modifies it to compensate delay dynamics and vibration. Being an offline method, the proposed method could be easily and effectively adopted to the existing systems without any modification of the hardware setup. The effectiveness of the proposed method was proven by experiments carried out with an actual belt driven system. The accuracy of the simulation study based on numerical methods was also verified with the analytical solutions derived.

Recently, complicated and dexterous tasks with two or more arms are needed in ninny robot manipulator applications which can not be accomplished with one manipulator. In general, when two arms manipulate an object, tile dynamics of the arms and the object should be considered simultaneously. In order to control the force of tile arms, we can use various control schemes based upon dynamic modeling. But, there are difficulties in solving inverse dynamics equations, and the environment where a manipulator performs various tasks is usually unknown, and we can not describe a model precisely, for instances, the effect of the joint flexibility, and the friction between the arm and the object. Therefore, in this paper, we suggest a new force control method employing fuzzy inference without solving dynamic equations. Fuzzy inference rules and parameters are designed and adjusted with the automatic fuzzy modeling method using the Hough transform and gradient descent method.

In this paper, a cable-driven endoscopic manipulator (CEM) is designed for the Chinese latest compact fusion reactor. The whole CEM arm is more than 3000 mm long and includes end vision tools, an endoscopic manipulator/control system, a feeding system, a drag chain system, support systems, a neutron shield door, etc. It can cover a range of ±45° of the vacuum chamber by working in a wrap-around mode, etc., to meet the need for observation at any position and angle. By placing all drive motors in the end drive box via a cable drive, cooling, and radiation protection of the entire robot can be facilitated. To address the CEM motion control problem, a discrete trajectory tracking method is proposed. By restricting each joint of the CEM to the target curve through segmental fitting, the trajectory tracking control is completed. To avoid the joint rotation angle overrun, a joint limit rotation angle optimization method is proposed based on the equivalent rod length principle. Finally, the CEM simulation system is established. The rationality of the structure design and the effectiveness of the motion control algorithm are verified by the simulation.

This paper presents a new dynamic model which is represented by the second order differenatial equation and itcludes the robot arm dynamics as well as the actuator dynamics. The model exhibits excellent performance in the steady state and transient response. In addition the time varing nonlinear and coupled dynamic system has been linearized and decoupled by using nonlinear feedback and linearization method. In this case a pole assignment law is used to improve stability, and the optimal control altorithm is applied to the error equation to minimize the path error. In applying the proposed algorithm to the three joint manipulator with actuators, we obtained very encouraging results.

A systematic output tracking control design technique for robust control of Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with norm bounded uncertainties is developed. The uncertain T-S fuzzy system is first represented as a set of uncertain local linear systems. The tracking problem is then converted into the stabilization problem for a set of uncertain local linear systems thereby leading to a more feasible controller design procedure. A sufficient condition for robust asymptotic output tracking is derived in terms of a set of linear matrix inequalities. A stability condition on the traversing time instances is also established. The output tracking control simulation for a flexible-joint robot-arm model is demonstrated, to convincingly show the effectiveness of the proposed system modeling and controller design.
