This study is aimed to develop a remote control robot-ship system using wireless communication and DGPS, which it is an automatic system for measuring exact depth and bed topography of reservoir or dam. Robot-ship is equipped with GPS and echosounder, and it is controled remotely using wireless internet. Robot-ship is consist of frame, each module and control board. Control segment is consisted of a processing system for positioning data and remote control system. A wireless communication system is developed which can communicate interactively between robot-ship and control segment, and it is developed in two channel system of RF modem and wireless internet. The robot-ship could be used acquire economically and exactly the water depth and bed topography of reservoirs, dams, rivers and so on.

Recently taping robot with smart recognition function have been studied in the coil manufacturing field. Due to the difficulty of 3D surface processing from the complicated working environment, it is not easy to accomplish smart tape attachment motion with non-contact sensor. To solve these problems the applicable surface recognition algorithm and a flexible sensing device has been recommended. In this research, the fusion method between 1D displacement and 3D laser scanner is applied for robust tape attachment about cold rolled coil. With these sensors we develop a two-step exploration and the smart algorithm for the awareness of non-aligned coil's information. In the proposed robot system for tape attachment, the problem is reduced to coil's radius searching with laser displacement sensor at first, and then position and orientation detection with 3D laser scanner. To get the movement at the robot's base frame, the hand-eye compensation between robot's end effector and sensing device should be also carried out respectively. In this paper, we examine the auto-coordinate transformation method in the calibration step for the real environment usage. From the experimental results, it was shown that the taping motion of robot had a robust under the non-aligned cold rolled coil.

This paper presents the depth evaluation for object detection by automated assembling robots. Pattern distortion analysis from a structured light system identifies an object with the greatest depth from its background. An automated assembling robot should prior select and pick an object with the greatest depth to reduce the physical harm during the picking action of the robot arm. Object detection is then combined with a depth evaluation to provide contour, showing the edges of an object with the greatest depth. The contour provides shape information to an automated assembling robot, which equips the laser based proxy sensor, for picking up and placing an object in the intended place. The depth evaluation process using structured light for an automated electronics assembling robot is accelerated for an image frame to be used for computation using the simplest experimental set, which consists of a single camera and projector. The experiments for the depth evaluation process required 31 ms to 32 ms, which were optimized for the robot vision system that equips a 30-frames-per-second camera.

In this paper, a landmark based localization system using a Kinect sensor is proposed and evaluated with the implemented system for precise and autonomous navigation of low cost robots. The proposed localization method finds the positions of landmark on the image plane and the depth value using color and depth images. The coordinates transforms are defined using the depth value. Using coordinate transformation, the position in the image plane is transformed to the position in the body frame. The ranges between the landmarks and the Kinect sensor are the norm of the landmark positions in body frame. The Kinect sensor position is computed using the tri-lateral whose inputs are the ranges and the known landmark positions. In addition, a new matching method using the pin hole model is proposed to reduce the mismatch between depth and color images. Furthermore, a height error compensation method using the relationship between the body frame and real world coordinates is proposed to reduce the effect of wrong leveling. The error analysis are also given to find out the effect of focal length, principal point and depth value to the range. The experiments using 2D bar code with the implemented system show that the position with less than 3cm error is obtained in enclosed space($3,500mm{\times}3,000mm{\times}2,500mm$).
Water covers two-thirds of the earth and has a great influence on the future existence of all human being. Thailand has extensive coastline and near shore water that contain vast biological and mineralogical resources. The rivers and canals can be found around the country especially in the Bangkok, which once called the Venice of the East. Autonomous underwater robot (AUR) will be soon a tool to help us better understand water resources and other environmental issues. This paper presents the design and basic control of a six-degree of freedom AUR "Chalawan", which was constructed to be used as a testbed for shallow. It is a simple low cost open-frame design, which can be modified easily to supports various research areas in the underwater environment. It was tested with a conventional proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller. After fine-tuning of the controller gains, the results showed the controller's good performances. In the future, the dynamic model of the robot will be analyzed and identified. The advanced control algorithm will be implemented based on the obtained model.
This paper introduces a new type of driving mechanism for rescue robot that has a variable geometry single-track which satisfies the pre-conditions of rescue robot. This mechanism is a symmetric configuration that has dual directions and prepares against overturn. By using transformation, it can reduce the energy consumption in steering and rotating. And also it maximizes the ability to overcome obstacles, like steps. It is designed to make the size of robot compact and to have the low center of gravity in driving on steps. Finally, we optimized the design variables of components determining the shape of reverse-trapezoid frame to enhance the adaptability to 4 phases of climbing steps.

An automatic design method of behaviors in behavior-based robotics is proposed. With this method, a robot can design its behaviors by itself without aids of human designer. Automating design procedure of behaviors can make the human designer free from somewhat tedious endeavor that requires to predict all possible situations in which the robot will work and to design a suitable behavior for each situation. A simple reinforcement learning strategy is the main frame of this method and the key parameter of the learning process is significant change of reward value. A successful application to mobile robot navigation is reported too.
This paper describes a control scheme for a robot manipulator system which uses visual information to position and orientate the end-effector. In this scheme, the position and orientation of the target workpiece with respect to the base frame of the robot are assumed to be unknown, but the desired relative position and orientation of the end-effector to the target workpiece are given in advance. The control scheme directly integrates visual data into the servoing process without subdividing the process into determination of the position and orientation of the workpiece and inverse kinematics calculation. A neural network system is used for determining the change in joint angles required in order to achieve the desired position and orientation. The proposed system can be control the robot so that it approach the desired position and orientation from arbitrary initial ones. Simulation for the robot manipulator with six degrees of freedom will be done. The validity and the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme will be verified by computer simulations.
This paper presents a new concept for controlling of under actuated robot manipulators with avoiding obstacles using switching computed torque method (SCTM). One fundamental approach of this algorithm is to use the partly stable controllers (PSCs) in order to fulfill the ultimate control objective. Here, we use genetic algorithms (GA)in order to employ the optimum control action for a given time frame with the available set of elemental controllers, depending on which links/variables are controlled, i.e. the selection of optimum switching sequence of the control actions. The proposed approach models links of the robot using evolving ellipses and then introduces a penalty scheme for the objective function of GA when it detects collisions. An under actuated robot manipulator, which has three detrees-of-freedom is taken into consideration so as to illustrate the design procedure. Simulation results show the e.ectiveness of the proposed method.
"Motion Stereo" is quite useful for visual guidance of the robot, but most range finding algorithms of motion stereo have suffered from poor accuracy due to the quantization noise and measurement error. In this paper, 3-D position estimation and refinement scheme is proposed, and its performance is discussed. The main concept of the approach is to consider the entire frame sequence at the same time rather than to consider the sequence as a pair of images. The experiments using real images have been performed under following conditions : hand-held camera, static object. The result demonstrate that the proposed nonlinear least-square estimation scheme provides reliable and fairly accurate 3-D position information for vision-based position control of robot. of robot.
