Settlement and Bearing Capacity of Roadbed Subjected to Tilting-train Loading in Various Ground Conditions

  • Tilting-train is very attractive to the railroad users in the world due to the advantage of high speed in curved track using pre-existing infrastructure of railway. Tilting-train has a unique allowable speed and mechanism especially in curved track. In this work, when tilting-train is operated with the allowable speed, the behavior of roadbed is evaluated by examining its settlement and bearing capacity. Additionally, the stability of roadbed is estimated as the roadbed is in the condition of soft soil influenced by the weather effects and cyclic train loading. Numerical results show that the roadbed settlement satisfies the allowable settlement when the elastic modulus of upper roadbed should be greater than $5000t/m^2$.

  • The general concept of reinforced roadbed in the high-speed railway is to cope with the soft ground for the bearing capacity and settlement of foundation soil. The cyclic plate load tests were performed to determine the behavior of reinforced ground with multiple layers of geogrid underlying by soft soil. With the test results, the bearing capacity ratio, elastic rebound ratio, subgrade modulus and the strain of geogrids under loading were investigated. Based on these plate load tests, laboratory model tests under cyclic loading were conducted to estimate the effect of geogrid reinforcement in particular for the high-speed rail roadbed. The permanent settlement and the behavior of earth pressure in reinforced roadbed subjected to a combination of static and dynamic loading are presented.

  • The field plate load test a good potential for determining modulus since it measures both plate pressure and settlement. However, because The field plate load test is expensive and takes plenty of time for operation, it is very difficult to figure out the test characteristics of railroad roadbed in detail. For faster and economical operation, the Dynamic Cone Penetrometer(DCP) and the Light Falling Weight Deflectometer(LFWD) have been utilized for estimating the bearing capacity of railroad roadbed. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between the test(PLT, DCP, LFWD) of the railroad roadbed in Korea. The DCP test and LFWD test for evauluating the strength of railroad roadbed materials produced in Korea are presented in this paper.

  • Dynamic fatigue test is carried out using soil model box for the evaluation of performance of three different roadbed materials. Bearing capacity, settlement and mud pumping phenomenon of each roadbed materials as well as penetration of model ballast into the roadbeds are investigated. It was found that settlement of slag and crushed stone roadbed is smaller than the soil roadbed during dynamic fatigue test with same initial conditions.

  • 틸팅차량의 안정성 확보를 위해 궤도부담력과 주행안정성 검토가 이루어졌으며, 틸팅차량이 궤도부담력과 주행안정성 검토에 의해 산정된 허용속도로 운행될 경우 레일이음매 하부 노반침하에 대한 연구가 수행되었다. 열차 주행시 레일이음매와 장대레일에 작용하는 충격량이 다르기 때문에 장대레일 하부 노반에 대한 안정성 검토가 추가적으로 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 장대레일에 대하여 노반의 침하량 및 지지력을 수치해석을 통해 검토하고 허용침하량 및 허용지지력과 비교하여 노반의 안정성을 검토하였으며 레일이음매와 장대레일 하부 노반의 침하량 및 지지력을 비교 분석하였다. 그 결과, 장대레일 및 레일이음부 하부 노반의 침하량은 허용침하량의 71.2% 및 88.8%, 응력은 허용지지력의 10.4% 및 12.1%로 나타났다.

  • It is investigated character of the dynamic behavior at over excavation zone of roadbed using crushed stone instead of lean concrete. It is considered that behavior of roadbed using PENTAGON-3D and Baber's equation. Typical load of sine wave type using impact factor is compared to moving load system to examine relationship in using PENTAGON-3D case. Variations of this paper are material properties of roadbed, train velocity, subgrade bearing capacity. Using variations, safety of roadbed is estimated by dynamic behavior character.

  • Since 1980's in U.S.A and Japan, the studies on increasing the bearing capacity of railway roadbed using geocell have been conducted for repair and reinforcement of railways constructed on soft soils. In this study, the railway roadbed system reinforced with geocells has been analyzed and investigated results of the previous studies were conducted in Korea and other nations, And the method for estimating the railway roadbed thickness was developed based on the equivalent method using the multi-layer theory and the deformation modulus Ev.

  • The design method of Geosynthetics reinforced Railway Roadbed that was developed in Germany in 1997 is presently putting into practice. This method insists that Railway Roadbed Thickness has to be measured by Frost and Bearing Capacity The Maximum Value from the above two measurements is the necessary Railway Roadbed Thickness. This design method has many kinds of advantage in economic, constructive aspect, and environmentalism. Recently a few Korean experts actively have researched on this area, but their results are not enough for proper design method. Ⅰ hope more complete study on this area will be progressed.

틸팅차량의 곡선부 운행시 수치해석을 이용한 노반거동 평가 (Evaluation of the Roadbed Behavior During Tilting-train Operation in Curved Track Using Numerical Analysis)

  • 틸팅차량은 기존의 하부구조를 최대한 활용하여 효과적으로 고속서비스를 제공할 수 있다는 점에서 세계 여러 철도 운영자들의 높은 호응을 받고 있지만 기존에 운행 중인 차량과는 차량의 성능뿐 아니라 곡선부의 주행속도와 통과 메커니즘 등이 다르기 때문에 운행 및 노반의 안정성 평가가 이루어져야 한다. 본 연구에서는 틸팅차량이 궤도부 담력과 주행안정성 검토에서 산정된 허용속도로 운행할 경우 수치해석을 통하여 침하량과 지지력 측면에서 노반의 거동을 분석하였고 기후변화 및 열차의 반복하중으로 인해 연약해진 노반의 안정성 검토를 수행하였다. 수치해석 결과, 상부노반 및 원지반의 탄성계수가 장대레일의 경우 $2,300t/m^2$$3,300t/m^2$ 이상, 레일이음매의 경우 $3,800t/m^2$$4,600t/m^2$ 이상일 때 노반의 침하량은 허용침하량 값을 만족한다.
