Up to now, a lot of houses, roads and other urban facilities have been damaged by natural disasters such as flash floods and landslides. It is reported that the size and frequency of disasters are growing greatly due to global warming. In order to mitigate such disaster, flood forecasting and alerting systems have been developed for the Han river, Geum river, Nak-dong river and Young-san river. These systems, however, do not help small municipal departments cope with the threat of flood. In this study, a real-time urban flood forecasting service (U-FFS) is developed for ubiquitous computing city which includes small river basins. A test bed is deployed at Tan-cheon in Gyeonggido to verify U-FFS. Wireless sensors such as rainfall gauge and water lever gauge are installed to develop hydrologic forecasting model and CCTV camera systems are also incorporated to capture high definition images of river basins. U-FFS is based on the ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System) that is data-driven model and is characterized by its accuracy and adaptability. It is found that U-FFS can forecast the water level of outlet of river basin and provide real-time data through internet during heavy rain. It is revealed that U-FFS can predict the water level of 30 minutes and 1 hour later very accurately. Unlike other hydrologic forecasting model, this newly developed U-FFS has advantages such as its applicability and feasibility. Furthermore, it is expected that U-FFS presented in this study can be applied to ubiquitous computing city (U-City) and/or other cities which have suffered from flood damage for a long time.

Under natural conditions, rivers do not in general take straight courses but instead take winding courses. This is known as meandering of rivers. Meandering of rivers are so complicated because of the mutual interactions between flow and movable boundaries. In quantitative information, it is important to predict the future location of a river channel(channel migration) because in selecting a bridge site or a location of a road. It may be valuable to know the future impact of a nearby river on those structures. When the prediction model of the migration of channel is used in domestic rivers with high coefficient of river regime, it is rational to use the periodical dominant discharge (PDD), which is named firstly by the author, instead of the average discharge. According to the analysis of the erosion coefficient, the mean deviation on the channel migration, and the bed scour factor, it can bring shedding light on the fact that the discharge is one of the dominant components in channel migration. In project area, the discharge that can shift the channel is slightly greater than 6,000CMS. The prediction model of the migration of channel estimated the erosion coefficient, $E_0$ by the data from the South Han River. This estimated value from the South Han River was also used to predict the migration of the South Han River in year 2000.
The Hoelyongpo in the Naeseong River as tributary basin of the Nakdong River is broadly well-known a tourist attraction, which is made of sandy beach, and is called "Island of Inland". But Construction of the Dam was planned at upstream of river. In other words, an influx of sediment is blocked from upstream of river. In this situation, through sediment discharge coming from tributary of the Naeseong river, the whether to go ahead of sand beach of the Hoelyongpo is analyzed by using 1-D and 2-D model. The sediment discharge is estimated through ratio raw with basin area, and the instream flow requirement of river coming from dam and the flow rate and sediment coming from tributary are inputted for model. The 1-D model uses HEC-6 and the 2-D model uses SMS(RMA2 and SED2D). The analysis using the HEC-6 is performed from cross section data 10 year ago to the present cross section. Consequently, Yang equation presenting similar result to the present cross section data is determined, using this, the prediction is conducted for the cross section after 20 years. The 2-D analysis is conducted for the present cross section data. The value of distinction between a deposition and erosion with the results presented in the 1, 2-D models is occur, however, the appearance between the deposition and the erosion is similar.
Recently, Water quiality of urban river largely have gotten better by virtue of sewer pipe laying and sewage treatment plants construction. or the various contaminants which is flowed in into river have generated underwater ecosystem disturbance and red tide by lack of sewage and waste water disposal facilities. With tidal river, taehwa river of ulsan metropolitan city has large river width and gradual stream bed gradient at the dry and storage period. Moreover, the flow is paralyzed due to the bridge pier protection work, consist of the mat foundation which is about 1.2km from two bridge and the contaminant is accumulated. it is caused by of the red tide generated from the several years or it activates. In this study, When flow area is largest by changing independent footing of bridge pier of two bridges and using RMA2 model, we hydraulically analyzed a variable breadth of velocity and discharge. Consequently, flow rate increased the maximum 103%, discharge was exposed to increase the maximum 61%. Directly this cannot extinguish the red tide but suppresses the red tide occurrence or can reduce. And it is determined to prevent the depositioning of the contaminant and can control fundamentally the red tide occurrence cause.

The significant sedimentation at the estuary in the eastern coast of Korea frequently causes river mouth occlusion where disconnection between the river and sea is observed. River mouth occlusion causing watershed retention raises the environmental risk of the area as it impairs water quality and threatens the area's safety in the event of floods. This study proposes a plan to maintain stability of river channel and flow of flood discharge at the estuary with loss of its function for disaster prevention. To this end, the study tries to change the location and width of stream path, focusing on the center line of stream near the sand bar of river mouth. This allows to identify a shape of stream path that leads the most stable flow. To review the result, this study uses the SRH-2D, a model for two-dimensional hydraulic analysis, and conduct numeric simulation. The simulation result showed that the most effective plan for maintaining the stable flow of running water without having the area sensitive to changes in hydraulic characteristics is to lower the overall river bed height of the sand bar near the center line of stream to a equal level.
Background: In Korea, riparian zones and some floodplains have been converted into agricultural fields and urban areas. However, there are essential for maintaining biodiversity, as they are important ecological spaces. There are also very important spaces for humanity, as they perform various ecosystem services in a changing environment including climate change. Due to the importance of rivers, river restoration projects have been promoted for a long time, but their achievement has been insignificant. Development should be pursued by thoroughly evaluating the success of the restoration project. Ecological restoration is to accelerate succession, a process that a disturbed ecosystem recovers itself, with human assistance. Ecological restoration can be a test bed for testing ecological theories in the field. In this respect, ecological restoration should go beyond a 'simple landscaping exercise' and apply ecological models and theories in restoration practice. Results: The cross-section of the restored stream is far from natural rivers due to its steep slope and artificial material. The vegetation profiles of the restored streams did not reflect the flooding regime of the river. The species composition of the vegetation in the restored stream showed a significant difference from that of the reference stream, and was also different from that of an unrestored urban stream. Although species richness was high and the proportion of exotic species was low in the restored stream, the effect was offset by the high proportion of gardening and landscaping plants or obligate terrestrial plants. Conclusions: Based on both the morphological and ecological characteristics of the river, the restoration effect in the restored stream was evaluated to be very low. In order to solve the problems, a systematic adaptive management plan is urgently required. Furthermore, it is necessary to institutionalize the evaluation of restoration effects for the development of river restoration projects in the future.
River is able to change by various environmental factors. In order to conduct river restoration design, it is necessary to evaluate the stable channel through the analysis of past and present river channels. River evaluation requires various data, such as geometry, hydraulic and hydrology, but there is a lot of difficulty to understand topographical information of river change on time and space due to a lack of past data by domestic conditions. This study was analyzed abandoned channel formation, changes in the vertical-section and cross-section length of rivers, and micro-landform changes etc using an image analysis technique. Purpose of this research is to evaluates the stable channel through a river channel morphology change from past and present river channels image. Mangyoung river was conducted artificial river maintenance through straight channel consolidation form 1920 to 1930 year. In the result river maintenance, mangyoung river length was decreased by 15 km and abandoned channels of six points were made. Since then, weir was continuously increased to control bed slope and use water. Install of weir was to be the reason of changes on channel width, thalweg, vegetated bar, sand bar, water area. Present Mangyoung river show that water area was temporary increased in upper and middle reach because of weir installation. Total sand bar was only decreased in upper channel. The change of vegetated bar and sand bar was slight recently. In this result, Mangyoung river is inferred to reach stabilized channel although there is some difference to the lower reach.

Current re-arrangement of rivers and waterways have been made uniformly ignoring characteristics of individual rivers thereby aggravating artificial river restructuring. On the contrary, quantitative techniques to evaluate the aftermath of artificial river disturbance such as uprising of river bed, intrusion of foreign fisheries, and changes of ecological habitats are not available. To establish such quantitative techniques, analysis of the river changes to evaluate the major causes of the river disturbance and its impacts is essential. Therefore, research for proposing a method which can be applied for the development of techniques to investigate river disturbance according to the major factors for the domestic rivers using airphotos and GIS techniques was preceded. In this study, the study area on the downstream of the river was selected and analysis of river disturbance using preceding method was done to confirm the benefit of analyzing river disturbance using GIS techniques. Trend analysis of the waterway sinuosity and changes of the flow path leaded to detailed verification of the river disturbance for specific location or time period, and this enabled to generate relatively accurate numbers representing sinuosity of the waterway and relevant changes. Also, it is possible to predict the effect on the current re-arrangement of the river and waterway to river flow using the analysis of past river change. It is necessary to establish GIS based proper measures for environmental river restoration using the results from this study and future works.

The systematic management of river is difficult due to various environmental factors such as season and terrain deformation. Especially, river terrain are rapidly changing by natural and anthropogenic factors such as torrential rain during the summer and river development projects. Thus in this conditions, building the advanced river management system is an essential condition to support the ongoing management of survey data and to acquire data regularly through river terrain survey in order to maintain an active river. The need to build an efficient system have been increased through the enhancement and advancement of River Management Geographic Information Systems(RIMGIS). In this study, database design system and Riverbed Change Data Management Program was developed for systematic management of new river terrain survey data and the efficient use of river data dynamic changes. The key features are construction of river survey data, cross and longitudinal section monitoring and analysis of riverbed change data. Maintenance tasks which can be utilized in river-based architecture was constructed. The expected results are to be able to manage river systematically, and utilization of river topographic survey data efficiently for river maintenance work.
Prediction model was composed by optimal parameter estimation from best fitting on reactant temperature profile, inlet and outlet temperature of coolant and yield of dual fixed-bed catalytic reactor(FBCR) which was measured in the industrial field. In order to design the FBCR which could obtain maximum conversion and yield, we investigated the effect of catalyst bed length and reactor radius changes. An uniform activity FBCR showed the best performance at z = 2.8 m of total catalysst bed length in case of reactor radius r = 0.01241 m and z =2.80 m(upper layer: 1.88 m, lower layer: 0.92 m) under reactor radius r = 0.01254 m for a dual activities FCBR. In case of reactor radius changes, the axial temperature profile and maximum radial temperature was rapidly risen for radius increase. The reactor radius decrease showed the opposite result.
