Distributional Characteristics and Management Plan for the Floristic and Naturalized Plants of Yeongcheon River in Jinju City (진주시 영천강의 식물상 및 외래식물 분포와 관리방안)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data necessary for establishing a vegetation management plan for the Yeongcheon River area by presenting a better understanding of the distribution and characteristics of naturalized plants through an investigation of the flora present in the Yeongcheon riverside, in Jinju, South Korea. Vascular plants were investigated for a total of 470 taxa, including 90 families, 282 genera, 425 species, one sub-species, 38 varieties, and six forms. Together, these accounted for 9.62% of the vascular plants (4,881 species) in Korea. Gramineae was the most abundant at 77 taxa (16.38%), followed by Cyperaceae at 56 taxa (11.91%), Leguminosae at 33 taxa (7.02%), Cyperaceae at 25 taxa (5.32%), and Rosaceae at 22 taxa (4.86%). Thirty species of indicator plants were surveyed and, among them, annual plants and hemicryptophytes accounted for a significantpercentage. Among ground plants, trees, shrubs, and sub-shrubs were surveyed to include 23 (4.89%), 17 (3.61%), and 14 taxa (2.97%), respectively. Furthermore, 36 aquatic plant taxa were found. Six rare plant taxa were surveyed including Penthorum chinense, Melothria japonica, Aristolochia contorta, Acorus calamus, Millettia japonica, and Magnolia kobus. Floristic special plants comprised 35 taxa,including 26 families, 34 genera, 34 species, and one variety. Plants endemic to Korea included six species. Naturalized plant species comprised 71 taxa, including 18 families, 53 genera, 68 species, and three varieties. The naturalization rate and urbanization index were 15.1% and 22.1%, respectively. Ecological disturbance species in Korea comprised nine taxa, including four families, eight genera, eight species, and one variety. These groups accounted for 64% of the ecological disturbance species in Korea. Ecological disturbance species in Korea tended to increase toward the downstream of Yeongcheon River. In particular, Ambrosia artemisiifolia and Sicyos angulatus, which cause human allergies and disrupt the habitats of plants and animals, must be removed artificially.

The characteristics of capital city plan of the BianLieng palace, the Dongjing Walled Town (東京城), the Northern song Dynasty (북송 동경 변량성의 조영과 특징)

  • The Northern Song Dynasty Period (北宋時代) was a drastic transitional era in all aspect of Chinese society including the politico-economic system, ideology and cultural trait. These changes that began in the late Tang (唐) Dynasty Period accomplished in the Northern Song Dynasty. In this phase, the fundamental change influenced in all institutional area; and among them, the capital city planning and its associating building technology to pile stone walls shows one of the significant change of those time. Based on the geographical factor, confluences of many rivers, the Kaifeing (開封) area where the BianLieng palace had developed as a political and economical centre since the Tang Dynasty when the Grand Canal was constructed. According to archaeological researches, the central city structure of Dongjing Walled Town was begun to plan in the late Tang Dynasty and formed in Five Dynasties. The fundamental functional change of city completed in the Midnorthern Song Dynasty. In spite of the relatively late beginning of archaeological investigations to Kaifeng Walled Town and Dongjing Walled Town due to unfavourable natural environment, excavations inaugurated since 1981 have achieved the significant investigations including the actual measurement and excavation to the outer wall, the preliminary excavation to the inner city area, the investigation and excavation to the royal palace of Song and the survey to the royal palace of King Zho in the Ming (明) Dynasty. These surveys have provide important data to reconstruct the 변량 palace, and elucidate the characteristics of city plan in the Dongjing Walled Town and the institutional change of capital city plan of the Northern Song Dynasty. The basic layout of Dongjing Walled Town reflect the realisation of ideality of the late Chinese medieval capital city structure that establish the commercial and economic centre based on the intensification of emperor's power by means of the organisation of ethical institution and the development of commercial economy. Firstly, the central place of the Kaifeng area is encircled with triple walls. This emphasise the authority of emperor located on the summit in the hierarchical ethic system succeeding to the main capital city plan of the late phase of ancient China. Secondly, the location of Dongjing Walled Town was decided by the transport network and the commercial function and defence function. Thirdly, this site shows the change of city structure and landscape of the Northern Song Dynasty. The closed Fengri (坊里: block) system transferred the open Jiexiang (街巷: road) system. Fourthly, the capital city was characterised by the free market trade and the diversification of market place. Fifthly, a convenient transport network in the Bian River, a centre of the Grand Canals, enabled to construct the Kaifeng Walled Town. Therefore, the Northern Song Dynasty continuously accomplished the developed water system as concerning about the utilisation of waterways after the construction of city.

The Study on the Distribution and Inhabiting Status of Nutria (Myocastor coypus) in Korea (뉴트리아 (Myocastor coypus)의 국내 분포 및 서식 현황에 관한 연구)

  • This study has researched the national expansion, dispersion of nutria and investigated its inhabitation status for the past 3 years. The report has shown that the number of nutria habitat, reported to be distributed in 9 cities or districts in 2010, has been increased to 13 in 2012. In the research of 629 nutria habitats, 95.9% of habitat traces were found in Busan-Kyungnam area. From the research of relative density by location type for the 6 survey areas in these 5 areas above, it was shown 3.98(${\pm}2.56$)ind./100m in 2010, 2.90(${\pm}2.69$)ind./100m in 2011 and 1.39(${\pm}0.66$)ind./100m in 2012. From the research of relative density by habitat types, it was shown 3.48(${\pm}2.15$)ind./100m in palustrine wetland area, $1.01{\pm}(0.25)ind.$/100m in river area and $3.69{\pm}(2.83)ind.$/100m in riverine wetland area. It was shown that the annual average density in the areas has slightly been decreased for the past 3 years between 2010 and 2012. It also reported that the habitat density in the river area is a bit lower than that in the wetland area. Currently it can be determined that the nutria has fully adapted themselves to the various local environments of wetland, river, stream, and so on in Korea and the Relative density could be remarkably increased especially in the favorable condition like a wetland. As the ones living in the area with over-density could be spread out to other areas, the efficient management plan to control should be prepared considering ecological conditions.

Effect of pH Control, Ozonation and Coagulation on THMs Formation in Dringking Water Treatment Process of the Downstream of Nakdong River (낙동강 하류의 정수처리 공정에서 pH, 오존 및 응집이 트리할로메탄 생성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of pH control and ozonation, coagulation on trihalomethanes (THMs) formation during prechlorination of the Nakdong river water. The results showed that lower pH was reduced THMs formation during prechlorination. THMs formation of water lowered pH 9.5 to 9.0, was reduced 18.3% and lowered pH 9.0 to 8.0 was reduced 14%, lowered pH 8.0 to 7.0 was reduced 7%, lowered pH 9.5 to 8.0 was reduced 29%. A low ozone dose ($0.11{\sim}0.48mg{\cdot}O_3/DOC$) before chlorination reduced the yields of THMs (reduced 6~24% in chlorination) compared with no preozonation. Thus the low ozone dose pretreatment is relatively effective plan to reduce THMs formation during chlorination. When ozone 1.0 mg/L, Alum 40 mg/L and sulfuric acid 6 mg/L dosed, The yields of THMs formation was reduced 42% compared with only chlorination. Input of chlorine after preozonation (followed coagulation, pH control) is more effective than only decline pH at a intake station to control THMs formation in a water treatment process. When chlorine 2.5 mg/L was added before coagulation (alum 40 mg/L), THMs formation was reduced 19% by lower pH and decreased 18% by a natural organic matter (NOM) removal compared with only chlorine 2.5 mg/L addition. Because coagulation could induce simultaneously lower pH and NOM removal, THM formation concentration is more effectively lowed than decreasing pH in the Nakdong river water.

A Management Plan According to the Estimation of Nutria (Myocastorcoypus) Distribution Density and Potential Suitable Habitat (뉴트리아(Myocastor coypus) 분포밀도 및 잠재적 서식가능지역 예측에 따른 관리방향)

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the concentrated distribution area of nutria (Myocastor coypus) and potential suitable habitat and to provide useful data for the effective management direction setting. Based on the nationwide distribution data of nutria, the cross-validation value was applied to analyze the distribution density. As a result, the concentrated distribution areas thatrequired preferential elimination is found in 14 administrative areas including Busan Metropolitan City, Daegu Metropolitan City, 11 cities and counties in Gyeongsangnam-do and 1 county in Gyeongsangbuk-do. In the potential suitable habitat estimation using a MaxEnt (Maximum Entropy) model, the possibility of emergency was found in the Nakdong River middle and lower stream area and the Seomjin riverlower stream area and Gahwacheon River area. As for the contribution by variables of a model, it showed DEM, precipitation of driest month, min temperature of coldest month and distance from river had contribution from the highest order. In terms of the relation with the probability of appearance, the probability of emergence was higher than the threshold value in areas with less than 34m of altitude, with $-5.7^{\circ}C{\sim}-0.6^{\circ}C$ of min temperature of the coldest month, with 15-30mm of precipitation of the driest month and with less than 1,373m away from the river. Variables that Altitude, existence of water and wintertemperature affected settlement and expansion of nutria, considering the research results and the physiological and ecological characteristics of nutria. Therefore, it is necessary to reflect them as important variables in the future habitable area detection and expansion estimation modeling. It must be essential to distinguish the concentrated distribution area and the management area of invasive alien species such as nutria and to establish and apply a suitable management strategy to the management site for the permanent control. The results in this study can be used as useful data for a strategic management such as rapid management on the preferential management area and preemptive and preventive management on the possible spreading area.

Characteristics of Nutrients Release by Submerged Plants in Flood Control Reservoirs within Juam Lake (주암호 홍수조절용지내 침수 식물체의 영양염류 용출 특성)

  • To improve the quality of water from water supply source and to establish the management plan of dead plants in flood control reservoir around Juam Lake, the effect of water quality by dead plant in column with passing time was investigated. In column test, the amounts of release by Carex dimorpholepis were $7,893-7,917mg\;m^{-2}\;month^{-1}$ COD, $2,711-2,816mg\;m^{-2}\;month^{-1}$ T-N and $342-547mg\;m^{-2}\;month^{-1}$ T-P. The amounts of release by Miscanthus sacchariflorus were $6,487-6,507mg\;m^{-2}$ COD, $1,813-1,868mg\;m^{-2}$ T-N and $226-405mg\;m^{-2}\;month^{-1}$ T-P in column. Therefore, the release of COD, T-N and T-P by Carex dimorpholepis were more than those by Miscanthus sacchariflorus Benth in column.

Fish Community Characteristics and Habitat Aspects of Endangered Species, Rhodeus pseudosericeus in Heuk Stream, a Tributary of the Han River Drainage System (한강지류 흑천의 어류군집 특성 및 멸종위기종 한강납줄개의 서식양상)

  • We investigated the characteristics of fish communities and habitat status of endangered species Rhodeus pseudosericeus in Heuk Stream, a tributary of the Han River, from April to October 2018. During this period, we collected 47 species of 14 families from 10 survey stations using kick nets, cast nets, and long bag set nets. The dominant and subdominant species were Zacco platypus (37.6%) and Z. koreanus (13.8%), respectively. The next most abundant species were Squalidus gracilis majimae (11.1%), Pungtungia herzi (7.7%), Rhodeus pseudosericeus (5.0%), Microphysogobio yaluensis (4.3%), and Hemibarbus longirostris (3.0%). Among the fish collected, 19 species (40.4%) were Korean endemic species. Endangered species were R. pseudosericeus and Acheilognathus signifer while exotic species were Micropterus salmoides and Oncorhynchus mykiss, and land-locked species were Plecoglossus altivelis and Rhinogobius brunneus. The community analysis showed that the dominance and evenness indexes were mostly low and that the diversity and richness indexes were high. Moreover, the river health (index of biological integrity) was mostly excllent (1 site is good, 9 sites are very good). R. pseudosericeus inhabited widely from St. 3 to St. 9 in Heuk Stream, and its population size was large. Age groups for R. pseudosericeus estimated by the frequency distribution of total length in spawning season (April) indicated the 32~45 mm group as 1-year old, the 46~59 mm group as 2-years old, 60~69 mm group as 3-years old, and the 70~89 mm group as 4-years or older. Total length range of male and female was similar, and the sex ratio of female (426) to male (394) was 1 : 0.95. A. signifer, which had been released in Heuk Stream, inhabited from St. 4 to St. 5, but its population size was small. Lastly, this paper discusses a conservation plan for fish in Heuk Stream.

Flood Damage Reduction Plan Using HEC-FDA Model (HEC-FDA 모형을 이용한 홍수피해 저감계획)

  • This study is estimated the flood damage probability of the flood discharge, the flood stage estimation and Economic Analysis for Flood Control about considering of uncertainty. Sum River Basin has chosen and the probability precipitation is estimated by using the concept of critical rainfall duration depending on the frequency of each flood stage estimation point. For calculating the expected annual damage, the functions of long term hazard, discharge-frequency, stage-discharge and depth-damage are established for 8 areas in Sum River Basin. The expected annual damaged is obtained which is based on the sampling informations through more than 500,000 simulation from the functions of considered uncertainty. The result about the optimum frequency and Investment Priorities are estimated by conducting the evaluation about planning the levee of various of Design Frequency. In analysis result, 12% of B/C value has increased if the uncertainty has concerned. Also the optimum frequency or Investment Priorities are possible to be changed. If the political and social analysis perform together it would be helpful to have a reasonable decision other than only the economical analysis as actual Flood damaged reduction planning.

Applicability Evaluation on the Analytical Formulas of the Scour Depth Estimation in the Bight River (교량세굴심 산정을 위한 만곡부하천에서의 산정식 적용성 평가)

  • This research calculated the scour depth of bridge according to inflow and outflow changes of stream's flood discharge and curves by applying scour depth formula for piers and abutments, and by comparing and examining them, evaluated the applicability of scour depth formulas. Overall, if the angles of flood discharge and inflow and outflow increase, the deviation rate of scour depth in bight increased. Especially the deviation rate was 58% at the inflow and outflow angle of $105^{\circ}$ that the bridge plan for this geography need careful examination. Next, as a result of calculating the deviation rate of scour depth at the bight by scour depth formulas, in case of pier, Andru formula showed 58% deviation rate, Laursen formula showed 26% deviation rate, and CSU. formula showed 17% deviation rate. In the case of abutment, Froehlich formula shows 44% deviation rate that when applying above scour depth formulas, scour depth calculation considering repairable characteristics of bight is necessary. Finally, about inflow and outflow angles of $45^{\circ}{\sim}135^{\circ}$ that showed big deviation rate of scour depth, this research performed regression analysis of deviation rates of scour depth due to flood discharge to suggest the regression formula.

  • The need for a systematic drought management has increased since last countrywide drought in 2001. Naturally various studies for establishing drought plan and preventing drought disaster have been conducted. MODIS image provided by Terra satellite has effective spatial and temporal resolutions to observe spatial and temporal characteristics of a region. MODIS data products are easy for preprocessing and correcting geometrically and provide various data set in regular which are applicable for drought monitoring. In this study, Ansung river and the upstream of South Han river basin was chosen for case study to identify and assess spring drought. The multi-period MODIS image and accumulated precipitation were used to detect not only the drought year but also the vegetation change of normal year and the result were compared with various spatial data. The result shows NDVI and LSWI with is more appropriate than LST for assesing spring drought in Korea and two month cumulative precipitation has moderate relationship with drought. It is necessary to use MODIS image which has same period and same space for effective drought analysis because drought is also affected by landover and altitude.
