Perception of Patient Safety Risk Factors and Performance Level of Safety Care Activities among Hospital Nurses (환자안전 위험요인에 대한 병원간호사의 인식수준과 안전간호활동 수행정도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the level of perception of safety risk factors and the degree of performance of safety nursing activities in order to develop an education program to improve the safety of patients. Methods: The subjects were 217 nurses from 3 university hospitals in Incheon. Data were collected with structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, and ANOVA using SPSS 22.0. Results: The level of perception of patient's safety risk factors and safety care activities was 2.93 and 4.68, respectively. Perception of patient safety risk factors which belonging to the risk type of therapeutic devices, equipment, service and infrastructure all scored below average; also in addition, behavior, performance, and violence risk type and work system, information and communication risk type showed relatively low perception levels. Safety nursing activities showed a low level of performance in accurate communication among medical teams, management of fire and disaster, security management, use of restraints, identification of patients, and correct performance of operations and procedures. Conclusion: Based on these results, it is necessary to improve the safety of patients by taking proper management measures along with education.

  • Recently, apartment-remodeling project is booming since various reconstruction controls are tightened. However, the project has difficulties because management systems used for apartment-remodeling projects are not available. Identifying and analyzing risk factors that are required for risk management, this paper suggests the risk level through paired comparison performed by AHP method and probability assessment for risk level analysis. It is expected that this research will be utilized to minimize the risk of apartment remodeling project and for basic materials to perform the project and helpful to change newly build-oriented construction into sustainable industries. Hereafter using the risk factor analysis data of this paper for this research project, risk management model is considered to be constructed.

  • Turn-key and CMF(CM for Fee) have been selected as procurement paths of large public projects in Korea. However, recently, researches and discussions on CMR(CM at Risk) have been popular as the Korean government seeks for alternative procurement paths to enhance the performance. In the CMR projects, the part who is responsible for construction management should predict and control the potential risks for guaranteeing benefits. In this research, CMR projects in which a general contractor plays the role as CMr is mainly analyzed. We give attentions to risk management during construction process given that subcontractors, main parts in this phase, work in various ways and thus more chances for faults exist. In this case, CMr manages risks to control the procedure of project. So, potential risk factors can constitute the database, and that database can be matched to following activity. And construction manager can forecast measures of risk using the result of matching. This chain of activities increase efficiency in roles of CMr on CMR(CM at Risk). Furthermore this study will propose one of the solution of Construction Management Module.

  • Since 'The Act on Private Investment of The Infrastructure' was established in 1994, private investment as well as government's investment in transport infrastructure has been active. However investment in transport infrastructure has more risks than others' due to uncertainty both in traffic volume and in construction cost. In the current appraisal procedure of deciding transportation infrastructure investment, instead of risk management, the sensitivity analysis considering only the changes of benefit, cost and social discount rate which are main factor affecting economic feasibility is carried out. Therefore the uncertainty of various factors affecting demand, cost and benefit are not considered in feasibility study. In this study the problems in current investment appraisal system were reviewed. Using Delphi technique the major factors which have high uncertainty in feasibility study were surveyed and then improvement plan was suggested in the respective of classic 4 step demand forecasting method. The range estimation technique was also mentioned to deal with the uncertainty of the future.

A Stochastic Simulation Model for Estimating Activity Duration of Super-tall Building Project

  • In super-tall building construction projects, schedule risk factors which vertically change and are not found in the low and middle-rise building construction influence duration of a project by vertical attribute; and it makes hard to estimate activity or overall duration of a construction project. However, the existing duration estimating methods, that are based on quantity and productivity assuming activities of the same work item have the same risk and duration regardless of operation space, are not able to consider the schedule risk factors which change by the altitude of operation space. Therefore, in order to advance accuracy of duration estimation of super-tall building projects, the degree of changes of these risk factors according to altitude should be analyzed and incorporated into a duration estimating method. This research proposes a simulation model using Monte Carlo method for estimating activity duration incorporating schedule risk factors by weather conditions in a super-tall building. The research process is as follows. Firstly, the schedule risk factors in super-tall building are identified through literature and expert reviews, and occurrence of non-working days at high altitude by weather condition is identified as one of the critical schedule risk factors. Secondly, a calculating method of the vertical distributions of the weather factors such as temperature and wind speed is analyzed through literature reviews. Then, a probability distribution of the weather factors is developed using the weather database of the past decade. Thirdly, a simulation model and algorithms for estimating non-working days and duration of each activity is developed using Monte-Carlo method. Finally, sensitivity analysis and a case study are carried out for the validation of the proposed model.

Risk Factor Analysis in the Implementation Phase of the Housing Redevelopment Project (주택재개발사업 시행단계의 위험요인 분석)

  • As many stakeholders are taking part in the Housing Redevelopment Project, their opinion mediation is considering very important issues. Thus disputes on projects are inevitable due to complexity of interest. To effectively progress the project, this paper analyze the risk factors by phase in implementation phase that the association participates in person. We identify 50 of risk factors in implementation phase by reviewing and analyzing related studies and actual cases of disputes, then we present 26 of risk factors through experts interview. Also, we calculate weights of risk factors by using AHP for quantitatively analyzing them and present final weights and priorities of risk factors by summing weights of risk factors by phase. In results, it is found that 'the inappropriateness of the Management Disposal Plan' in management disposal plan phase and 'the inappropriateness of the Project Implementation Plan' are the most significant risk factors. To maximize the utilization of risk factors analyzed, we present the checklists that can be aware of these risks in advance and prevent these risks. Based on these findings, if risk factors in implementation phase are managed actively, the housing redevelopment project will be performed more effectively.

Work-related Stress and Risk Factors among Korean Employees (한국 근로자의 업무관련성 스트레스와 위험요인)

  • Purpose: Work-related stress and risk factors among Korean employees were identified in this study. Methods: Data were obtained from employees aged 20 to 64 using the Korean Working Conditions Survey 2006 (KWCS). Multiple logistic regression analysis using SAS version 9.1 was performed to examine risk factors of work-related stress by gender. Results: The age-adjusted prevalence of work-related stress among male and female employees was 18.4% and 15.1% respectively. After adjustments for multiple variables among both male and female employees, there was a significant relationship between work-related stress and risk factors including education, company size, work time, ergonomic risks, biological chemical risks, and job demands. The significant variables for male employees were housework load, occupational class, and shift work, and for female employees, type of employment. Conclusion: There is a need to develop and support intensive stress management programs nationally giving consideration to work-related stress associated with working time, physical working environment, and job demands. Based on gender specific approaches, for male employes, stress management programs should be developed with consideration being given to occupational class and shift work. For stress management programs for female employees, consideration needs to be given to permanent employment status, specifically those in small companies.

  • The proportion of students dropping out of universities is increasing year by year, and they are trying to identify risk factors and eliminate them in advance to prevent dropouts. However, there is a problem in the management of students at risk of dropping out and the forecast is inaccurate because crisis students are managed through the univariable analysis of specific risk factors. In this paper, we identify risk factors for university dropout and analyze multivariables through machine learning method to predict university dropout. In addition, we derive the optimization method by evaluation performance for various prediction methods and evaluate the correlation and contribution between risk factors that cause university dropout.

Suggestion of Risk Assessment Models for Cardiovascular Disease in the Workplace

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to identify the incidence risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the workplace, and to suggest the prediction models for level of CVD incidence risk. Background: CVD can be caused by various factors related to personal habits such as diet and exercise, or genetics. However it can also be caused and aggravated by work, making the elimination of such risk factors at work crucial disease (KOSHA, 2013). Method: The distribution of CVD risk assessment levels of 162 workers was compared with the acquired medical examination data to discuss the necessity of assigning additional risk factors. Two alternative risk assessment models were given to enhance the accuracy of the evaluation; adjusting risk scores given in the KOSHA GUIDE H-1-2013 (alternative 1) and building a matrix of KOSHA GUIDE H-1-2013 and risk assessment results based on work condition levels (alternative 2). To verify the suggested models, medical examination results of 12 workers approved of convalescence were referred to. Results: The second alternative showed more relevance between the results and workers approved of convalescence in predicting the risk group when applied to actual heath examination data from the approved workers. The power of description of the new method for determining the risk of CVD incidence, 83.3%, is higher than that of KOSHA GUIDE H-1-2013, 25%. Conclusion: Results of this study imply that more approved workers had been from unmanaged normal groups than managed risk groups, raising the importance of CVD management. Application: The new prediction model considering working time and shift work developed in this study is expected to be a fundamental data for risk analysis and management of CVD in the workplace.

  • Recently, the urban regeneration project has been performed actively at home and abroad. The stake-holders in urban regeneration project are various and complicated, and has large scale during a long life period. Also they show the characteristics of a mega-project and most mixed-use form. Therefore, the urban regeneration has a lot of potential risk factors from project beginning to completion. It means they need efficient and continuous risk management in terms of performance measurement. But the current domestic construction project does not reflect risk management in view of performance measurement. This study proposes the risk management methodology by mapping risk factors with major performance indexes of the urban regeneration project.
