울산 하대고분 출토 민고리자루칼의 재질 특성과 환두부 제작 방법 (Metallurgical Characteristics and Manufacturing Techniques of Ring-Pommel Swords Excavated from Ancient Tombs in Hadae, Ulsan)

  • 울산 하대유적에서 출토된 민고리자루칼을 방사선 비파괴조사와 미세조직 분석으로 환두부의 제작 방법과 재질 특성을 살펴보았다. 방사선 비파괴 조사법으로(X-ray, CT) 내부 구조를 확인한 결과, 제작 방법의 기본형식은 철 단일 소재로 칼 끝부터 환두부까지 일체형으로 제작한 단조품임을 확인하였다. 또한 미세조직 분석을 통해 살펴 본 제작기술은 '순철-형태가공, 순철-형태가공-침탄, 강-형태가공-담금질'의 세 가지 유형으로 분류할 수 있었다. 민고리자루칼 5점 중 4점의 환두부는 약 0.7% 내외인 공석강 정도의 탄소 함량을 가진다. 특히 환두부에서는 손잡이보다 증가된 탄소함량을 보이는데, 이는 손잡이 끝 부분을 세장한 형태로 만들고 둥글게 구부리는 과정에서 인성을 부여하기 위한 침탄 처리의 결과로 추정된다. 길이 60 cm 이하의 민고리자루칼 1점은 날 부위에 집중시킨 담금질을 통해 강한 인성을 부여하여 무기로서의 용도를 극대화시켰다. 반면 75 cm를 넘는 4점의 날 부위에서는 담금질 조직인 마르텐사이트가 관찰되지 않았다. 하지만 칼등 대비 날 부위의 탄소함량 증가나 결정립의 미세화는 실용기로서 사용이 가능했음을 보여준다. 2C말에서 4C초로 편년되는 울산 하대고분군 출토 민고리자루칼은 단조기술을 통해 일체형으로 제작하였으며, 사용 목적에 따라 제강, 열처리 기술을 적용하여 칼이 가지는 용도의 효과를 극대화시켜 제작하였다.

  • 족자 고리는 끈이나 유소를 고정시켜 걸 수 있도록 하는 장황 부속품으로 형태가 다양하며 여러 금속재를 사용하여 제작되었다. 현재 전통 형식의 고리는 대부분 개장으로 인해 유실되었으며, 일본식 고리를 사용하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 국립중앙박물관에 소장된 전통 족자 19점을 대상으로 고리의 형태와 제작기법, 성분을 조사하여 옛 형태를 복원해 보고자 하였다. 의궤 내용에서 고리는 원환(圓環), 국화동(菊花童), 배목(排目) 등 고유의 명칭으로 기록되어 있다. 휴대용 엑스선 형광분석기(portable X-ray fluorescence, Artax, Rontec)로 성분을 분석한 결과, 전통 형식의 고리는 황동, 철, 은-구리합금 등 다양한 금속재로 확인되었다. 구리와 아연이 주성분인 황동은 17점 족자 고리에 사용되었다. 전 윤시달 초상(신2339)의 배목에서는 철을 사용하였으며, 주석-납 합금으로 도금하였다. 이서구 초상(신1065)에서는 고리 전체가 은-구리합금으로 제작되었음을 확인하였다. 광학현미경(Leica, M205A)으로 제작 방법을 조사한 결과 원환은 금속봉을 절단한 뒤 둥글게 휘어 만든 유형과 주조로 제작된 유형으로 확인되었다. 배목은 주조한 합금으로 봉재나 판재를 만들고 다시 단조과정을 거쳐 제작하였고, 배목장식은 금속판재를 잘라 형태를 만든 후 축조와 타출기법 등으로 무늬를 새겨 장식하였다.

  • Heat treatment is one of the critical manufacturing processes that determine the quality of a product. This paper presents experimental and analytical results for the quench of a ring gear in stagnant oil. The goal of this study is to develop heat transfer predicting model in an overall analysis of the quenching process. Thermal conductivities which are dependant on temperatures and convection coefficients which are obtained by inverse method are used to develop the accurate heat transfer model. The results of heat transfer model have a good agreement with experimental results.

  • Effects of frictional laws on finite element solutions in metal forming were investigated in this paper. A rigid-viscoplastic finite element formulation was given with emphasis on the frictional laws. The Coulomb friction and the constant shear friction laws were compared through finite element analyses of compression of rings and cylinders with different aspect ratios, ring-gear forging, multi-stage cold extrusion and hot strip rolling under the isothermal condition. It has been shown that two laws may yield quite different results when the aspect ratio of a process and the fractional contact region are large.

  • A line search algorithm to increase a convergence in Newton's method is developed and applied to nonlinear finite element analysis. The algorithm is based on the slack line search theory which is an efficient algorithm to determine initial acceleration coefficient, variable backtracking algorithm proposed by some researchers, and convergence criterion based on residual norm. Also, it is capable of avoiding exceptional diverging conditions. Developed program is tested in metal forming simulation such as forging and ring rolling. Numerical result shows the validity of the algorithm for a highly nonlinear system .

  • This paper describes a research work on the die design for the deep drawing & ironing(D. D. I) of high pressure gas cylinder. D. D. I die set is large-sized die used in horizontal press, which is usually composed of a drawing, and an ironing die. Design method of D. D. I die set is very different from that of conventional cold forging die set. Outer diameter of the die set is fixed because of press specification and that of the insert should be as small as possible for saving material cost. In this study, D. D. I die set has been designed to consider those characteristics, and the feasibility of the designed die has been verified by FE-analysis. In addition, the automated system of die design has been developed in AutoCAD R14 by formulating the applied methods to the regular rules.

  • An upper-bound elemental technique (UBET) analysis is carried out to improve the material flow and to reduce the load of bearing-race forming process. The UBET analysis, which adapts the advantages of stream function and finite element method, is useful for predicting the profile of complex geometric bound- ary. From the UBET analysis, the forming load, the velocity distribution and the stream line of the deformed billet are determined by minimizing the total power consumption with respect to chosen parameters. The results of present UBET analysis are better than those of previous UBET analysis. Experiments have been carried out with model material plasticine billets at room temperature. The theoretical predictions for forming load and flow pattern(stream line) are in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • In automotive industries, various processes for the cost reduction have been investigated lively. As one of them, powder metallurgy becomes influential. Compared to other methods used for he manufacture of steel components the Powder metallurgy process is competitive primarily due to the small number of production steps to reach the final geometry and thereby also the energy-efficiency. In this paper, to alter present forging process into powder metallurgy process by which the automotive clutch disc spline hub is manufactured machining process, the mechanical properties of sintered materials is investigated by specimen test. Selecting the 3 kinds of materials-SMF 4040, SMF 9060 and DHP-1, their properties according to heat treatment such as carburizing -tempering and plasma-nitrodizing are compared. By result of specimen test - tensile test, compression ring test, Impacting test, measurment of hardness, and microstructure analysis - we concluded that SMF 9060 and carburizing-tempering heat treatment is an optimal material and heat treatment method for the spline hub. It will be able to reduce manufacturing cost and weight.

  • Industrialization and modernization of the beginning of the IT industry is growing very fast. Since telecommunications industry was developed rapidly, technologies about miniaturization and high-precision of parts have been actively developed to lead information revolution. generally, the entire shear surface of the product applying fine blanking technology must be very precise. Fine blanking is used to save cost by avoiding post-processing of the product. When using press blanking, it spends a lot of money on the production by using many post-processing. Fine blanking typically used in 0.5~18 mm thick steel plate. Because a lot of post-processing cost can be used to process, except for fine blanking. In order to develop components "CHANCE CONTENTS" in the fine blanking process, the purpose of this study is to minimize the edge of the bridge, secured 95% of the material thickness of the shear surface using the 1.6 mm thickness of the material SPCC. Blanking process by introducing after changing thickness through forging process, due to change in vee-rring force and counter force, the experimental amount of depressions and flatness and the shear surface were analyzed.
