  • In this paper, stacker crane is modeled as rigid elements and discrete flexible beam connections by kinematics & dynamics solver package program instead of deriving the equations of motion which describes the total dynamics of the system. For the simulation of structural dynamics, ADAMS, a software for the simulation of multiple rigid body dynamics, is used. Some kinds of works are fulfilled to examine the dynamic characteristics of system. In order to verify the analysis method, the results of simulation and experiment are compared.

  • In this paper, a method for calculating the contact force and the frictional force caused by contacts between the wire rope and the rigid body is introduced based on multibody dynamics. And the method is applied to a simulation of contacts between the wire rope and the shell plate of a block that can occur during shipbuilding. The wire rope is composed of a number of lumped masses and the wire rope segments that connect the masses. After calculating the position of interference, we inserted a contact node into the wire rope. We then derived the equations of motion of the wire rope and the rigid body using augmented formulation based on multibody dynamics taking into account the constraints between the contact node and the rigid body. Using the equations, we were able to obtain the constraint force between the contact node and the rigid body, and calculate the contact force and the frictional force, based on which the position of the contact node was corrected. Finally, we applied our results to perform simulation of contacts between the wire rope and the shell plate of a block in order to verify the efficacy of the method proposed in this paper.

  • This paper presents the analysis results of dynamics in the billiards game within the framework of rigid-body mechanics and a numerical simulation program. The friction exists between the ball and the table bed as well as between the ball and the rail. There are three parts in the dynamic behavior of the ball on the table bed; motion of the ball on the table bed, collision between balls, and collision between the ball and the cushion. During the development of the simulation program, the dynamics problems such as rolling motion and three-dimensional frictional impact motion have been analyzed in detail. The theoretical issues are implemented into a viable graphic simulation program and its efficacy is demonstrated through the experimental validation of the billiards game. The resulting analysis results are verified quantitatively and qualitatively using high-speed video camera. Through the experimental tests, it was found that the physical parameters such as coefficients of restitution and friction vary according to the motion variables and corresponding empirical formulations were developed. The simulation and experimental results agree well.

  • A great deal of time and effort are required to evaluate the safety and durability of a vehicle structure in the vehicle development stage. It is difficult to find the reasons for cracks which occur in the body and frame of a vehicle during tests. Recently computer aided engineering techniques have been utilized to solve the problems of safety and durability of vehicles. In this study, a dynamic stress analysis is performed on the frame of the vehicle by rigid and flexible multibody dynamics techniques. The result of the analysis is compared to that of the actual test. The full vehicle dynamic models for the rigid and flexible bodies are developed by DADS package. The modal coordinate system is used to save time for the dynamic stress analysis. The flexible multibody dynamic models have 12 normal modes considering the flexibility of the frame. Dynamic stresses arc calculated by relating the stress influence coefficients and the applied forces.

  • An autofilter is a device that removes impurities contained in heavy fuel oil used in diesel engines of ships or power plants, and also automatically removes impurities accumulated in the filter through a reverse washing function. The reducer-integrated motor serves to rotate the filter at low speed to enable reverse automatic cleaning in the autofilter device. To achieve a low speed of 0.65 to 0.75 rpm in a reducer-integrated motor, a small motor that can operate at 97rpm at a rated voltage of 110 V and 112.5 rpm at 220 V is required. Additionally, a large gear ratio of 1/150 is required. To ensure the durability and reliability of these reducers, the strength of the gear must be evaluated at the design stage. In general, there is a limit to evaluating the stress and strain state according to the vibration characteristics acting on each gear in the driving state of the reducer through quasi-static analysis. Therefore, in this study, the operation characteristics of the auto filter's reducer-integrated motor were first analyzed using the rigid body dynamics analysis method. Then, this rigid body dynamics analysis model was extended to a flexible multibody dynamics analysis model to analyze the stress and strain states acting on each gear and evaluate the design feasibility of the gear.

  • Collision analysis problems between ship to ship can be generally classified into the external mechanics(outer dynamics) and internal mechanics(inner dynamics). The former can be also dealt with the concept of fluid-structure interaction and the use of rigid body dynamic program, depending on the ways handling the hydrodynamic pressure due to surrounding water. In this study, full scale ship collision simulation was carried out, such as a DWT 75,000 ton striking ship collided at right angle to the middle of a DWT 150,000 struck ship with 10 knots velocity, coupling MCOL, a rigid body mechanics program for modeling the dynamics of ships, to hydrocode LS-DYNA. It could be confirmed that more suitable damage estimation would be performed in the case of the collision simulations with consideration of surrounding water through the comparison with the collision simulation results of fixed struck ships without it. Through this study, the opportunity could be obtained to establish a more effective ship collision simulation technique between ship to ship.

  • It is known that displacements, velocities and accelerations of the tractor- trailer type vehicle system in shock & vibration analysis by the flexible-multi-body dynamics including the flexibility of structure are bigger and more repetitive than them by the rigid-multi-body dynamics, and it is necessary to prove above results by the experimental field test. Therefore, in this paper, theoretical analysis by the flexible-multi-body dynamics and experimental field test for a tractor-trailer type vehicle system are conducted and their results are compared with each other. Because of unexpected metal contact and impact in the air coupler part in the field test, some accelerations measured from the experimental field test are bigger than them analyzed from the theoretical analysis, but most accelerations are well coincide with each other in the amplitudes and trends. Thus more refined dynamic analytical models for some special type vehicle systems will be possible in the future.

  • To identify the driving dynamic characteristics of the Tractor-Trailer Type Transporter for mounting a large scale precision equipment, real vehicle driving tests on the 3 inch-bump-space-road were performed. And using general Dynamics Analysis Program - RecurDyn(V8R5), Dynamics M&S were carried out assuming the similar condition with real tests. Then the acceleration data obtained from real tests and M&S were analyzed and compared with each other in the part of root-mean-square-acceleration($g_{rms}$), peak-acceleration($g_{peak}$) and frequencies. In simple view of the $g_{rms}$ & $g_{peak}$, although the results of MRBD are more similar to ones of the real vehicle driving tests, but the results of RFlex have more information to get various useful dynamic characteristics.

  • In the present paper, we report a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation of non-rigid zeolite-A framework only as the base case for a consistent study of the role of intraframework interaction on several zeolite-A systems using the same technique in our previous studies of rigid zeolite-A frameworks. Usual bond stretching, bond angle bending, torsional rotational, and non-bonded Lennard-Jones and electrostatic interactions are considered as intraframework interaction potentials. The comparison of experimental and calculated structural parameters confirms the validity of our MD simulation for zeolite-A framework. The radial distribution functions of non-rigid zeolite-A framework atoms characterize the vibrational motion of the framework atoms. Mean square displacements are all periodic with a short period of 0.08 ps and a slow change in the amplitude of the vibration with a long period of 0.53 ps. The displacement auto-correlation (DAC) and neighbor-correlation (DNC) functions describe the up-and-down motion of the framework atoms from the center of α-cage and the back-and-forth motion on each ring window from the center of each window. The DAC and DNC functions of the framework atoms from the center of α-cage at the 8-ring windows have the same period of the up-and-down motion, but those functions from the center of 8-ring window at the 8-ring windows are of different periods of the back-and-forth motion.

  • In this study, a recursive algorithm for generating the equations of motion of a chain of rigid rods is presented. The methods rests upon the idea of replacing the rigid body by a dynamically equivalent constrained system of particles. The concepts of linear and angular momentums are used to generate the rigid body equations of motion without either introducing any rotational coordinates or the corresponding transformation matrices. For open-chain, the equations of motion are generated recursively along the serial chains. For closed-chain, the system is transformed to open-chain by cutting suitable kinematic joints with the addition of cut-joints kinematic constraints. An example of a closed-chain of rigid rods is chosen to demonstrate the generality and simplicity of the proposed method.
