Explosive bolts are one of pyrotechnic release devices, which are highly reliable and efficient for a built-in release. Among them, ridge-cut explosive bolts which utilize shock wave generated by detonation to separate bolt body produce minimal fragments, little swelling and clean breaks. In this study, separation phenomena of ridge-cut explosive bolts or ridge-cut mechanism are computationally analyzed using Hydrocodes. To analyze separation mechanism of ridge-cut explosive bolts, fluid-structure interactions with complex material modeling are essential. For modeling of high explosives (RDX and PETN), Euler elements with Jones-Wilkins-Lee E.O.S. are utilized. For Lagrange elements of bolt body structures, shock E.O.S., Johnson-Cook strength model, and principal stress failure criteria are used. From the computational analysis of the author's explosive bolt model, computational analysis framework is verified and perfected with tuned failure criteria. Practical design improvements are also suggested based on a parametric study. Some design parameters, such as explosive weights, ridge angle, and ridge position, are chosen that might affect the separation reliability; and analysis is carried out for several designs. The results of this study provide useful information to avoid unnecessary separation experiments related with design parameters.
The present work is described the design factors and separation mechanism of ridge-cut explosive bolt in order to optimize the stage separation characteristics. Characteristics of test samples would differ depend on the detonating devices, the shape and size of bolt body, the amount of loading explosives, and the confinment conditions of bolt. Based on the results from these experimental factors, it appears to optimal condition of ridge-cut explosive that the amount of loading explosive seems to be near 110mg of RDX, the height of loading explosive is 3.5mm, the thickness of bolt is 3.9mm, and the degree of ridge is approximately $120^{\circ}$
The purpose of this study is to clarify locational characteristics and the road systems of existing 22 old settlements in Cheongju downtown of Korea. These old settlements are classified largely into two types by geographical feature; Hill type located in ridge and Valley type in the valley from the ridge. The Hill type is further categorized into San-rock located on ridge and Gogae located on hillside, and the Valley type into closed large and small valley, that is, Daegok and Sogok by the shape and size of the valley. The road systems are classified into outer road, approaching road, inner road, and side road. In San-rock type villages, Inner road is changed side roads by new arterial road, and new ones become inner road. The outer road are almost cut off, but side roads maintain. In the case of the Gogae type, main road becomes inner road, maintain old hierarchical road, and in other cases, villages are formed around side roads derived from main road, and outer road and inner road are cut off. Among the Valley type, Daegok type maintains old hierarchical road, while for Sogok type, outer roads are cut off, and new roads are outer road.
Ball-end milling is one of the most common manufacturing processes for the parts with sculptured surface. However, the conventional roughness model is not suitable for the evaluation of surface texture and roughness under highly efficient machining conditions. Therefore, a different approach is needed for the accurate evaluation of machined surface. In this study, a new method, named ‘Ridge method’, is proposed for the effective prediction of the geometrical roughness and the surface topology in ball-end milling. Theoretical analysis of a machined surface texture was performed considering the actual trochoidal trajectories of cutting edge. The characteristic lines of cut remainder are defined as three-types of ‘Ridges’ and their mathematical equations are derived from the surface generation mechanism of ball-end milling process. The predicted results are compared with the results of conventional method. The agreement between the results predicted by the proposed method and the values calculated by the simulation method shows that the analytic equations presented in this paper are useful for evaluating a geometrical surface roughness of ball -end milling process.
A simple fabrication method of self-aligned ridge waveguides with dielectric side buffers is demonstrated on +Z- cut LiNbO$_3$. The ridge waveguide is fabricated by a combination of the annealed proton exchange process and the proton-exchanged wet etching technique. The self-aligned process is achieved by wet etching of aluminum.
