A study on the vibration analysis of automobile steering system and improvement of ride comfort (승용차 스티어링 칼럼 시스템의 진동해석과 승차감 개선에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, in order to analyze dynamic characteristics of automobile steering system consisting of many components, natural frequencies and transfer functions of each component and total system are found on FFT by experiments. Then, the data are transmitted to commercial package program, CADA-PC. By analyzing the data, the mode shape of each natural frequency and damping values are obtained. Also, the function of rubber coupling in column and telescoping effects on system are considered. C.A.E commercial program are used to compare with the results of experiments. For finite element modeling, I-DEAS is used. Data processing and post processing are operated on NASTRAN and XL, respectively. The ball-bearing and the linkage of shaft with column are modeled by spring elements. Stiffness is modified from the results of experiments. The results of those show close agreement. In the mode shape of total system, wheel mode is dominant at lower frequency while the column mode is main mode at higher . The role of rubber coupling in vibration isolation is clear on mode shape. Telescoping function makes natural frequency of column changed.

Fuzzy-sliding mode control of a full car semi-active suspension systems with MR dampers

  • A fuzzy-sliding mode controller is presented to control the dynamics of semi-active suspension systems of vehicles using magneto-rheological (MR) fluid dampers. A full car model is used to design and evaluate the performance of the proposed semi-active controlled suspension system. Four mixed mode MR dampers are designed, manufactured, and integrated with four independent sliding mode controllers. The siding mode controller is designed to decrease the energy consumption and maintain robustness. In order to overcome the chattering of the sliding mode controllers, a fuzzy logic control strategy is merged into the sliding mode controller. The proposed fuzzy-sliding mode controller is designed and fabricated. The performance of the semi-active suspensions is evaluated in both the time and frequency domains. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed fuzzy-sliding mode controller can effectively suppress the vibration of vehicles and improve their ride comfort and handling stability. Furthermore, it is shown that the "chattering" of the sliding mode controller is smoothed when it is integrated with a fuzzy logic control strategy. Although the cost function of the fuzzy-sliding mode control is a slightly higher than that of a classical LQR controller, the control effectiveness and robustness are enhanced considerably.

Rail Grinding Criteria of Kyeong-Bu High-Speed Line for Effective Rail Maintenance (레일유지관리 효율화를 위한 경부 고속선 레일 연마 기준(안))

  • The importance of maintenance of rail surface defects is increasing more according to the KTX operation. That is because during high speed operation of rolling stock, rail surface defects may cause shortened fatigue life of rail, acceleration of track degradation and reduced ride comfort. The paper was intended to study the establishment of rail grinding criteria of high-speed railway lines considering the KTX operation circumstances. For this, the specimens of UIC 60 rail on Kyeong-Bu high-speed operation lines were collected and they were tested for metallographic structure and measured for the hardness. As the factors affecting RCF causing the defects of rail surface, passing tonnage, running speed and track condition are considered.

  • In the track geometry such as rails, sleepers, ballasts and fastener, track deterioration occurs by repetitive train weight and the high-speed railway takes a trend faster than normal. Track deterioration of over threshold value harms ride comfort and furthermore affect in trains safety seriously. An organic and systematic track maintenance system is very important because a trend of the track deterioration effects on track life-cycle and running safety. Also costs of the railway track permanent way and its maintenance are extremely large, forming a significant part of the total infrastructure expenditure. Therefor reasonable and efficient track maintenance has to be planed on a budget. It is required to carry out not only corrective maintenance but preventive maintenance for the track maintenance. In order to perform maintenance jobs in the boundary of the machines and resources given regarding the type and amount jobs, it is necessary to determine feasible or optimal scheduling considering the priority. In this study, the system organization and required functions for the development of track maintenance system supported track deterioration prediction and optimal scheduling are proposed.

  • Maglev is a system that a train runs levitated above a rail. Therefore it is very important to maintain a constant levitation gap for achieving serviceability and ride comfort. This study is a cooperation research subject of the 3-1 subject, performance improvement of maglev track structures, of the Center for Urban Maglev Program in Korea, started in 2006. The aim of this study is development of rapid constructions of bridge superstructure for maglev. At present, precast deck is widely used because of its superiority to cast-in-place concrete on quality and the term of works. The research group suggested basic systems of maglev guideway with PSC-U type and trapezoidal open steel box type girder, and precast deck, cooperating with Korea Railroad Research Institute, the managing institute of the 3-1 subject. In this study, longitudinally full-scale guideway girder system was fabricated and static/dynamic test of the girder was performed for the purpose of the performance evaluation.

  • Reduction of a ship's rolling is the most important performance requirement for improving the safety of the crew on board and preventing damage to cargos as well as improving the comfort of the ride. A mass driving anti-rolling system (MO-ARS) might be one candidate of several systems against the ship's rolling. As the movable range of the mass on the ship is finite, the control system must include restriction on the mass position to protect the device and the ship. This restriction usually causes windup phenomenon and control performance is deteriorated seriously. Two control algorithms, anti-windup control and saturated sliding mode control, are studied in this paper. Control performance and robustness problem are checked out by numerical simulations.

A mass driving anti-rolling system (MO-ARS) might be one candidate of several systems against the ship's rolling. In this paper, three types of MD-ARS, two passive and one active devices, are developed for small ships. After they are installed on the cabin of the small leisure boat, respectively, a series of performance test is conducted before and after operating them. Through the test, it is confirmed that the roll responses of the ship are pretty well reduced by the MO-ARS.

Evaluation of Rail Fatigue Life by Grinding of Kyeong-Bu High-Speed Line (경부고속선의 레일 연마에 따른 레일 피로수명 평가)

  • The importance of maintenance of rail surface defects is increasing according to the KTX operation. That is because during high speed operation of rolling stocks, rail surface defects shorten fatigue life of rail, accelerate track degradation and deteriorate ride comfort. Rail grinding has been applied for effective rail maintenance in Kyeong-Bu HS line. This paper evaluates the effectiveness of rail grinding in term of rail fatigue life. To this end, the stresses of the rail are measured under KTX running and the equivalent stress range is calculated by RMC after the frequency analysis done with rainflow counting method. Also, The Modified Miner's rule is applied to predict the fatigue life of ground rail. The result of the analysis shows that the fatigue life of ground rail is increased by 15%.

A Comparative Study for Anthropometric Measurements of Highschool Boys and Highschool Boys Cyclist (남자 고등학생과 남자 고등학교 사이클 선수의 신체 계측치 비교 연구)

  • This study provides abasis for the development of high functional cycle wear with clothing comfort and fitness for highschool boy cyclists by a comparison of the somatotype of highschool boys cyclists and general highschool boys. This study directly measured 44 anthropometric targeted cyclists across Korea. "The sixth national standard physical survey" data targeted 16 to 18-year-old male adolescents; subsequently, anthropometric measurement data was provided by 766 people for research. Highschool boy cyclists used t-test to compare the differences in body type. The results in this study are follows. Highschool boys cyclists(compared to regular highschool boys) indicated a great somatotype stature and weight. The differences in the cervical height and the acromion height results of, cyclist appeared smaller. Cyclists angle of shoulder was smaller. The upper body of highschool boys cyclist was greater than the difference between chest breadth and bust breadth with along biacromion length. The waist front length of the cyclist was a short cycle ride upon the attitude of the streamlined. Highschool boy cyclists indicated that the muscles of the arm portion was more developed compared to general highschool boys. The lower body had less abdominal fat with a significantly developed thigh and calf.

The Study for Design of Tilting Mechanism and Guide Track of Pantograph for Tilting Train (틸팅열차용 판도그라프의 틸팅 기구장치 및 가이드 트랙 형상 설계 연구)

  • The development of tilting train has been required for speed-up on the conventional electric railroad due to the characteristic of Korean railroad with a lot of curve track. The study and development of a tilting system and a tilting bogie which have a different mechanism with high speed train will play a important role for enhancement of technology for Korean railway. The study for tilting pantograph mechanism to decrease the displacement between a catenary and a center of pantograph happened when the carbody is tilted in order to maintain the ride comfort and stability m a curving track is proceeding with the development of tilting train. In this paper, we introduce the design concept for the tilting mechanism of pantograph and the role and characteristics for several devices adopted in the tilting mechanism of pantograph. Through the kinematic analysis of tilting mechanism, we will obtain and calculate the optimal tilting angular velocity and acceleration in order to keep the contact behavior of a pantograph and a catenary according to tilting of a carbody.
