Dynamic rheological properties of commercial 0.8, 1.0, and 1.2% gums [carboxylmethylcellulose (CMC), guar gum, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC), tara gum, and xanthan gum], which can be dissolved in cold water, were investigated by small-deformation oscillatory measurements. Magnitudes of storage (G') and loss (G") moduli increased with increasing concentration of gum solutions except for xanthan gum. Guar gum exhibited greatest G' and G" values among all gums except for G' value at 0.8% concentration. Slopes of G' and G" decreased with increasing concentration of gum solutions except for xanthan gum. Tan ${\delta}$ (G"/G') values decreased with increasing concentration of gum solutions except for xanthan gum. Tan ${\delta}$ values of xanthan gum solutions were much lower than those of other gum solutions, indicating that xanthan gum solutions were predominantly more elastic than viscous.

The phase diagram for the surfactant mixture system of N-dodecanocyl-N-methyl amido polyolcarboxyl alkyl ether(DGC)/N-dodecanocyl-N-alkyl glucamine(DG)/water was studied usingpolarized microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and rheological measurements respectively. Using polarized microscopy, the textures of liquid crystal phases obtained at various surfactantconcentrations were investigated as a function of surfactant concentration and temperature, and phasetransitions between anisotropic liquid crystal phases and isotropic liquid phase were examined usingDSC measurements. Viscoelastic properties of surfactant solutions determined between hexagonal andlamellar liquid crystal phase by rheological measurements were approximately consistent with the resultsobtained by polarized microscopy and DSC. In the study for the phase of DGC/DG(5:5 mol ratio)/water system. It could be found that the hexagonal liquid crystal phase appeared at 25${\sim}$60wt% ofsurfactant, the cubic liquid crystal phase at 50${\sim}$65wt% and the lamellar crystal phase at above 70wt%.

In this study, the rheological properties of nitromethane gel propellants on nano/micron sized gelling agent are investigated. Silicon dioxide is used as the gellant with 5 wt%, 6.5 wt% and 8 wt% concentration, respectively, where the measurements are conducted under steady-state shear flow conditions using a rotational rheometer. The nitromethane/silicon dioxide gel showed non-Newtonian flow behavior for the entire experimental shear rate ranges. The gel fuels with nano-sized gellant had a slightly higher viscosity than the gel fuels with micron-sized one for low shear rate range. Additionally, it was found that Herschel-Bulkley model can hardly describe the rheological behavior of nitromethane gel propellant, but the NM model(by Teipel and Forter-Barth) is better suited to explain the rheological behavior of nitromethane gel propellant.
The polycrystalline mullite fiber was synthesized from various combination of starting materials including metal alkoxides and colloidal sol by the sol-gel process. The best spinnability was observed in the sol which showed shear thinning and hysteresis (i.e., thixotropic flow), indicating that the network structure was broken down as the shear rate increased. The mullite fiber was polycrystalline after firing and characterized by thermal analysis, XRD, FT-IR spectroscopy, rheological measurements, and SEM.
For the total description of mechanical behaviors of elastomers, it is necessary to know the so-called rheological constitutive equation i.e. the strain-energy density function (W) in case of elastomers, which necessitates biaxial tensile results of elastic body. This paper first describes the experimental results of biaxial tensile measurements on poly(siloxane) model networks. W was estimated from its differential form i.e. the $1^{st}$ differential of W is stress. The W was found to reproduce the experimental stress-strain results, and the W estimated for silica filled poly(siloxane) networks suggest a different behavior between conventional precipitated silica and in situ formed silica. The difference suggests the different surface property of the two silicas.

Recently, remarkable agreement has been reported between nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulation and high-pressure Couette rheometry on squalane. We utilized the parameters obtained from this unique collaboration along with high-pressure viscometer measurements to calculate the elastohydrodynamic traction curve. A comparison with measured traction at 1.29 GPa shows excellent agreement, confirming the validity of the measurements and simulations. It should no longer be necessary to invoke a different rheological response to explain film thickness and traction.
This study uses turbidity and rheological measurements to examine the effects of the molecular weight (MW), substitution type and substitution degree of cellulose ether and water content on the cooking characteristics of rice noodles, the turbidity of the cooking solution, and the compression strength of the cooked noodles. When increasing the MW of cellulose ether and water content, the turbidity decreased, thereby improving the morphological stability of the rice noodles during cooking. Thus, when controlling the above factors effectively, the rice noodle cooking solution had a lower turbidity than with wheat noodles. Measuring the compression strength of the rice noodles using a rheometer was also effective for examining the pasting characteristics of the rice noodles and texture changes during cooking. As a result, the water content and MW of cellulose ether were found to affect the pasting characteristics and texture of the rice noodles more than the other factors examined.
Clay suspensions in liquid polymers exhibit a time-dependent behaviour that includes viscoelastic as well as thixotropic features. Because of the presence of interacting clay platelets, particulate networks can develop, which are broken down during flow and rebuild upon cessation of the flow. Here, the use of thixotropic techniques in probing flow-induced structures in nanocomposites is explored with data on a hectorite-poly(isobutylene) model system. By means of fast stress jump measurements the hydrodynamic contributions to the steady state stresses are determined as well as those caused by the stretching of the clay floes. Flow reversal measurements do not provide a clear indication of flow-induced anisotropy in the present case. The recovery of the clay microstructure upon cessation of flow is followed by means of overshoot and dynamic measurements. The development of a particulate network is detected by the appearance and growth of a low frequency plateau of the storage moduli. The modulus-frequency curves after various rest times collapse onto universal master curves, regardless of the pre-shear history or temperature. The scaling factors for this master curve are the crossover parameters. The crossover moduli are nearly a linear function of the crossover frequency, the relation being identical for recovery after shearing at different shear rates. This function depends, however, on temperature.
The shape of the polymers in the mixed alkoxide solutions of Si(OC2H5)4 and Zr(n-OC3H7)4 with various water contents (1, 2, 4, and 8 in molar ratio to alkoxide, r) and catalysts was examined by rheological measurements, and its relation with fiber drawing behavior of the solutions was described. It was found that fibers could be drawn in the viscosity range 1~100 P from the acid-catalyzed solutions with lower water contents of the molar ratio H2O/alkoxide, $r{\leq}2$. On the other hand, no fiber could be drawn from the acid-catalyzed solutions including a large amount of water($r{\geq}4$) and the base-catalyzed solutions. The relation between the intrinsic viscosity [${\eta}$] and number average molecular weight ${\bar{M}}n$, namely $[{\eta}]=K{\bar{M}}n{\alpha}$, has shown that the acid-catalyzed spinnable solution (r = 1 and 2) had linear polymers where the exponent a's were about 0.56 and 0.81, whereas non-spinnable solutions (r = 4 and 8) had three dimensional network polymers or spherical particles where the exponent a's were 0.41-0.51 and 0.35.
The rheological behaviour of anatase $TiO_2$ with organic coating has been investigated extensively in this study. The yield stress was measured over a wide range of solids concentration and pH using stress-controlled and speed-controlled rheometers. The organic treatment leads to a shift of the isoelectric point (IEP) from around pH 5.5 to pH 2.4. A maximum yield stress occurs in the vicinity of the isoelectric point determined by electrokinetic measurements. The transition of rheological behaviour between elastic solid and viscous liquid is represented by a stress plateau in a plot of stress against strain. It is hypothesised that the slope of the stress plateau reflects the uniformity of the structure, and hence the distribution of bond strength. Altering the concentration and the surface chemistry can vary the bond strength and its distribution. therefore, resulting in different type of failure: "ductile-type" or "brittle-type". pH and volume fraction dependence of yield stress could be described quantitatively using existing models with reasonable agreement.easonable agreement.
