Matching for the rhesus (Rh) blood group is currently not taken into account in the organ allocation system. However, in Rh-mismatched transplantation, the primary concern is the potential for RhD-negative recipients to develop sensitization and produce anti-D antibodies if they receive a transfusion of RhD-positive blood. It is estimated that over 80% of RhD-negative recipients may experience Rh allosensitization when exposed to RhD-positive blood, although this occurrence is less common in recipients of solid organs. In theory, RhD-negative recipients who receive organs from RhD-positive donors are at risk of alloimmunization and the production of anti-D antibodies, which could complicate future blood product transfusions. However, our understanding of the impact of donor-recipient Rh mismatch on transplant outcomes, particularly in heart transplantation, is limited. We report a case of successful Rh-mismatched heart transplantation, which was effectively managed through the use of preoperative RhD immunoglobulin and plasmapheresis.

Chitin was extracted from crab shell of Portuns triberculatus and deacethylated to yield chitosan with various molecular weights. The absorption and the fluorescence spectra of Rhodamine 6G(Rh 6G)-sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) and Rh 6G-chitosan systems were obtained. From the spectra, we observed that the absorption and the fluorescence intensity of Rh 6G-SDS system decreased when S/D(the concentration of SDS to that of Rh 6G ratio) was below or at 32, while they increased when S/D was above 32. From the suspended solid(SS) removal rate and the transmittance of Rh 6G-SDS-chitosan system, we found that when S/D ratio was 32 its flocculating behaviour was much stronger than Rh 6G-SDS system. As the concentration and the molecular weight of chitosan increased, we also found that S/D range was extended from 32 to 100. With increasing the molecular weight of chitosan, the SS removal rate increased around pH 2~9 but decreased remarkably at pH>12.
Purpose: Conventional methods for the prenatal detection of fetal RhD status involve invasive procedures such as fetal blood sampling and amniocentesis. The identification of cell-free fetal DNA (cffDNA) in maternal plasma creates the possibility of determining fetal RhD status by analyzing maternal plasma DNA. However, some technical problems still exist, especially the lack of a positive control marker for the presence of fetal DNA. Therefore, we assessed the feasibility and accuracy of fetal RHD genotyping incorporating the RASSF1A epigenetic fetal DNA marker from cffDNA in the maternal plasma of RhD-negative pregnant women in Korea. Materials and Methods: We analyzed maternal plasma from 41 pregnant women identified as RhD-negative by serological testing. Multiplex real-time PCR was performed by amplifying RHD exons 5 and 7 and the SRY gene, with RASSF1A being used as a gender-independent fetal epigenetic marker. The results were compared with those obtained by postnatal serological analysis of cord blood and gender identification. Results: Among the 41 fetuses, 37 were RhD-positive and 4 were RhD-negative according to the serological analysis of cord blood. There was 100% concordance between fetal RHD genotyping and serological cord blood results. Detection of the RASSF1A gene verified the presence of cffDNA, and the fetal SRY status was correctly detected in all 41 cases. Conclusion: Noninvasive fetal RHD genotyping with cffDNA incorporating RASSF1A is a feasible, reliable, and accurate method of determining fetal RhD status. It is an alternative to amniocentesis for the management of RhD-negative women and reduces the need for unnecessary RhIG prophylaxis.
We investigated the electronic structure and magnetism of the (3d, 4d)-Pd alloyed c($2{\times}2$) monolayer systems, by use of the FLAPW band method. For comparison, pure 3d- and 4d-transition metal monolayers are also considered. We found that the antiferromagnetic configuration of pure V monolayers is sustained in the V-Pd alloy system, while the Ti-Pd alloy system is changed to antiferromagnetic configuration from the ferromagnetic state in pure Ti monolayer. The 4d TM (Mo, Ru, Rh)-Pd monolayers are found to be stable in ferromagnetic configurations. The magnetic moments of Ru and Rh atoms in Ru-Pd and Rh-Pd systems are almost same with those of pure Ru and Rh monolayers, while the magnetic moment of Mo atom is increased to $2.98\;{\mu}_B$ in Mo-Pd alloyed system from the value of Mo monolayer, $0.02\;{\mu}_B$.
The control mechanism of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) on gonadotropin (GTH) release was studied using cultured pituitary cell or cultured whole pituitary obtained from Testosterone (T) treated and control immature rainbow trout. The release of FSH was not changed by salmon type GnRH (sGnRH), chiken-II type (cGnRH-II), GnRH analogue ([des-$Gly^{10}D-Ala^6$] GnRH ethylamide) and GnRH antagonist ([Ac-3, 4-dehydro-$Pro^1$, D-p-F-$Phe^2$, D-$Trp^{3,6}$] GnRH) in cultured pituitary cells of T-treated and control fish. Indeed, FSH release was not also altered by sGnRH in cultured whole pituitary. All tested drugs had no effect on the release of LH in both culture systems of control fish. The levels of LH, in contrast, such as the pituitary content, basal release and responsiveness to GnRH were increased by T administration in both culture systems. In addition, the release of LH in response to sGnRH or cGnRH-II induced in a dose-dependent manner from cultured pituitary cells of T-treated fish, but which is not significantly different between in both GnRH at the concentration examined. Indeed, LH release was also increased by sGnRH in cultured whole pituitary of T-treated fish. GnRH antagonist suppressed the release of LH by sGnRH ($10^{-8}\;M$) and GnRH analogue ($10^{-8}\;M$) stimulation in a dose-dependent manner from cultured pituitary cells of T-treated fish, and which were totally inhibited by $10^{-7}\;M$ GnRH antagonist. These results indicate that the sensitivity of pituitary cells to GnRH is elevated probably through the T treatment, and that GnRH is involved in the regulation of LH release. GnRH-stimulated LH release is inhibited by GnRH antagonist in a dose-dependent manner. The effects of gonadal steroids on FSH levels are less clear.
We used a mammalian GnRH antagonist, $[Ac-3,4-dehydro-Pro^1,\;D-p-F-Phe^2,\;D-Trp^{3.6}]$-GnRH, to examine the details of the salmon type gonadotropin-releasing hormone (sGnRH) and GnRH agonist analog $(Des-Gly^{10}$[d-Ala^6]-ethylamide GnRH; GnRHa) functions in the control of maturational gonadotropin (GTH II) secretion, in precocious male rainbow trout, in both in vivo and in vitro experiments. In the in vivo study, plasma GTH II levels increased by sGnRH or GnRHa treatment, but the response was more rapid and stronger in the GnRHa treatment group. The increase in GTH II was significantly suppressed by the GnRH antagonist, while the antagonist had no effect on basal GTH II levels in both groups. The GnRH antagonist showed stronger suppression of GTH II levels in the sGnRH treatment fish than in the GnRHa treatment fish. In addition, plasma androgenic steroid hormones (testosterone and 11-ketotestosterone) increased by the sGnRH or GnRHa treatment. The GnRH antagonist significantly inhibited the increases in plasma androgenic steroid hormone levels stimulated by the sGnRH or GnRHa, while the antagonist had no effect on basal androgenic steroid hormone levels in both groups. In the in vitro study, treatment with sGnRH or GnRHa increased GTH II release from the cultured dispersed pituitary cells, but the response was stronger in the GnRHa treatment group. The increase in GTH II release by GnRH was suppressed by adding the GnRH antagonist, dosedependently. On the other hand, basal release of GTH II did not decrease by the GnRH antagonist treatment in both groups. These results suggest that the GnRH antagonist, $[Ac-3,4-dehydro-Pro^1,\;D-p-F-Phe^2,\;D-Trp^{3.6}]-GnRH$, used in this study is effective in blocking the action of GnRH-induced GTH II release from the pituitary gland both in vivo and in vitro.
The mechanism by which gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and dopamine (DA) control gonadotropin (GTH) release was studied in male and female rainbow trout using cultured pituitary cells obtained at different reproductive stages. The mechanisms of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) release by GnRH and DA could not be determined yet. However, basal and salmon-type GnRH (sGnRH)- or chicken-II-type GnRH (cGnRH-II)- induced luteinizing hormone (LH) release increased with gonadal maturation in both sexes. LH release activity was higher after sGnRH stimulation than cGnRH-II stimulation at maturing stages in both sexes. The GnRH antagonist ([Ac-3, 4-dehydro-$Pro^1$, D-p-F-$Phe^2$, D-$Trp^{3,6}$] GnRH) suppressed LH release by sGnRH stimulation in a dose-dependent manner, although the effect was weak in maturing fish. The role of DA as a GTH-release inhibitory factor differs during the reproductive cycle: the inhibition of sGnRH-stimulated LH release by DA was stronger in immature fish than in maturing, ovulating, or spermiated fish. DA did not completely inhibit sGnRH-stimulated LH release, and DA alone did not alter basal LH release. Relatively high doses ($10^{-6}$ or $10^{-5}M$) of domperidone (DOM, a DA D2 antagonist) increased LH release, which did not change with reproductive stage in either sex. The potency of DOM to enhance sGnRH-stimulated LH release was higher in maturing and ovulated fish than in immature fish. These data suggest that LH release from the pituitary gland is controlled by dual neuroendocrine mechanisms by GnRH and DA in rainbow trout, as has been reported in other teleosts. The mechanism of control of FSH release, however, remains unknown.

In this paper, we compared the performance of the Right Handed Nonlinear Transmission Line (RH-NLTL) and Left Handed Nonlinear Transmission Line (LH-NLTL) as a harmonic generator. For a performance comparison, we fabricated both a RH-NLTL and a LH-NLTL harmonic generator whose operational bandwidth is from 0.5 GHz to 1.5 GHz. Under the each condition for the RH-NLTL and the LH-NLTL to maximize second harmonic, the output power of the second harmonic was 9.33 dB lower than the input power for the RH-NLTL and 12.67 dB lower than the input power for the LH-NLTL. Under the each condition for the RH-NLTL and the LH-NLTL to maximize third harmonic, the output power of the third harmonic was 13.33 dB lower than the input power for the RH-NLTL and 14.83dB lower than the input power for the LH-NLTL. Also, we have observed that, generatlly, a RH-NLTL is useful in generating various multiple harmonics and a LH-NLTL is useful in generating a specific order of harmonic by adjusting a proper DC vias, input frequency and input power. These tendencies could be a good guideline to use NLTLs as a frequency multiplier.
Human eyes and skin are frequently exposed to chemicals accidentally or on purpose due to their external location. Therefore, chemicals are required to undergo the evaluation of the ocular and dermal irritancy for their safe handling and use before release into the market. Draize rabbit eye and skin irritation test developed in 1944, has been a gold standard test which was enlisted as OECD TG 404 and OECD TG 405 but it has been criticized with respect to animal welfare due to invasive and cruel procedure. To replace it, diverse alternatives have been developed: (i) For Draize eye irritation test, organotypic assay, in vitro cytotoxicity-based method, in chemico tests, in silico prediction model, and 3D reconstructed human cornealike epithelium (RhCE); (ii) For Draize skin irritation test, in vitro cytotoxicity-based cell model, and 3D reconstructed human epidermis models (RhE). Of these, RhCE and RhE models are getting spotlight as a promising alternative with a wide applicability domain covering cosmetics and personal care products. In this review, we overviewed the current alternatives to Draize test with a focus on 3D human epithelium models to provide an insight into advancing and widening their utility.
Rhodium(III)-$Cp^*$ complexes containing labile ligands, $[Cp^*RhCl_2]_2$, [$Cp^*Rh({\eta}^2-NO_3)$(OTf)], and $[Cp^*Rh(OH_2)_3](OTf)_2$, reacted with potential linking ligands [$L^1$ = (2-thiophene)-CH=N-N=CH-(2-thiophene); $L^2$ = (2-furan)-CH=N-N=CH-(2-furan)] to give two molecular compounds, [$Cp^*Rh(L^1)Cl_2$] (1) and [$Cp^*Rh({\eta}^2-NO_3)(L^1)$]$(OTf){\cdot}CH_2Cl_2$ ($2{\cdot}CH_2Cl_2$), and one 1-dimensioanl coordination polymer, $\{[Rh(L^2)]{\cdot}(OTf)}_{\infty}$ (3). Whereas one imine nitrogen atom within the ligand is coordinated to the Rh metal in compounds 1 and 2, both nitrogen atoms are bound to two neighboring Rh metals in compound 3 to lead to a 1-D chain polymer.
