$Rh-Pt/Al_{2}O_{3}$ catalysts were used for the first time to study its reaction characteristics in the asymmetric hydrogenation of ethyl pyruvate. The catalysts were prepared either by impregnation of Rh on a commercial $Pt/Al_{2}O_{3}$ or by sequential impregnation of Rh followed by impregnation of Pt on $Al_{2}O_{3}$. Reaction rate and enantiomeric excess (ee%) were compared according to the preparation method, Rh contents, and the reduction temperature of the catalyst. The physical characteristics of the catalysts were analyzed using XRD and TEM. Bimetallic $Rh-Pt/Al_{2}O_{3}$ catalysts showed an improved reaction rate and optical purity (63.6 ee%) with increasing the reduction temperature. The variation of the Rh contents as well as the preparation method elicited a big difference on the reaction rate, while enantiomeric excess (ee%) was lower (56~60%) with all bimetallic catalysts than with monometallic $Pt/Al_{2}O_{3}$ catalyst.
The ammonia decomposition reaction has been of increasing interest as a means of treating ammonia in flue gas in the presence of precious metal catalyst. Various catalysts, $Pt-Rh/Al_2O_3$, $Pt-Rh/TiO_2$, $Pt-Rh/ZrO_2$, $Pt-Pd/Al_2O_3$, $Pd-Rh/Al_2O_3$, $Pd-Rh/TiO_2$, $Pd-Rh/ZrO_2$, $Pt-Pd-Rh/Al_2O_3$, $Pd/Ga-Al_2O_3$, $Rh/Ga-Al_2O_3$, and Ru/Ga-$Al_2O_3$, were synthesized by using excess wet impregnation method. Using a homemade 1/4" reactor at $10,000{\sim}50,000hr^{-1}$ of space velocity in the presence of precious metal catalyst ammonia decomposition reactions were carried out to investigate the catalyst activity. The inlet ammonia concentration was maintained at 2,000 ppm, with an air balance. Both $T_{50}$ and $T_{90}$, defined as the temperatures where 50% and 90% of ammonia, respectively, are converted, decreased significantly when alumina-supported catalysts were applied. In terms of catalytic performance on the ammonia conversion in the presence of hydrogen sulfide, $Pt-Rh/Al_2O_3$ catalyst showed no effect on the poisoning caused by hydrogen sulfide. These results indicate that platinum-rhodium bimetallic catalyst is a useful catalyst for ammonia decomposition.
Background: The effect of ginsenoside Rh2 (G-Rh2) on mast cell-mediated anaphylaxis remains unclear. Herein, we investigated the effects of G-Rh2 on OVA-induced asthmatic mice and on mast cell-mediated anaphylaxis. Methods: Asthma model was established for evaluating airway changes and ear allergy. RPMCs and RBL-2H3 were used for in vitro experiments. Calcium uptake, histamine release and degranulation were detected. ELISA and Western blot measured cytokine and protein levels, respectively. Results: G-Rh2 inhibited OVA-induced airway remodeling, the production of TNF-α, IL-4, IL-8, IL-1β and the degranulation of mast cells of asthmatic mice. G-Rh2 inhibited the activation of Syk and Lyn in lung tissue of OVA-induced asthmatic mice. G-Rh2 inhibited serum IgE production in OVA induced asthmatic mice. Furthermore, G-Rh2 reduced the ear allergy in IgE-sensitized mice. G-Rh2 decreased the ear thickness. In vitro experiments G-Rh2 significantly reduced calcium uptake and inhibited histamine release and degranulation in RPMCs. In addition, G-Rh2 reduced the production of IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-8, and IL-4 in IgE-sensitized RBL-2H3 cells. Interestingly, G-Rh2 was involved in the FcεRI pathway activation of mast cells and the transduction of the Lyn/Syk signaling pathway. G-Rh2 inhibited PI3K activity in a dose-dependent manner. By blocking the antigen-induced phosphorylation of Lyn, Syk, LAT, PLCγ2, PI3K ERK1/2 and Raf-1 expression, G-Rh2 inhibited the NF-κB, AKT-Nrf2, and p38MAPK-Nrf2 pathways. However, G-Rh2 up-regulated Keap-1 expression. Meanwhile, G-Rh2 reduced the levels of p-AKT, p38MAPK and Nrf2 in RBL-2H3 sensitized IgE cells and inhibited NF-κB signaling pathway activation by activating the AKT-Nrf2 and p38MAPK-Nrf2 pathways. Conclusion: G-Rh2 inhibits mast cell-induced allergic inflammation, which might be mediated by the AKT-Nrf2/NF-kB and p38MAPK-Nrf2/NF-κB signaling pathways.
The mutually reactive copolymers poly[(vinylbenzyl chloride)-co-(n-butyl acrylate)-co-(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)] and poly[(4-vinylpyridine)-co-(n-butyl acrylate)-co-(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)] were synthesized for the humidity sensitive material by forming simultaneous quaternization. The humidity sensor showed an average resistance of 8.6 M$\Omega$, 310 k$\Omega$ and 12 k$\Omega$ at 30%RH, 60%RH and 90%RH, respectively. The hysteresis and temperature coefficient were $\pm$3%RH and -0.37~-0.40%RH/$^{\circ}C$. The introduction of n-BA and HEMA increased the resistance of the humidity sensor however it enhanced the adherence to the alumina substrate. The response time was 54 seconds changing from 33%RH to 85%RH and the difference of resistance was +0.2%RH after soaking in water for 2 hr.
Background: Ginsenoside Rh2 (G-Rh2) is a ginseng saponin that is widely investigated because of its remarkable antitumor activity. However, the molecular mechanism by which (20S) G-Rh2 triggers its functions and how target animals avoid its cytotoxic action remains largely unknown. Methods: Phage display was used to screen the human targets of (20S) G-Rh2. Fluorescence spectroscopy and UV-visible absorption spectroscopy were used to confirm the interaction of candidate target proteins and (20S) G-Rh2. Molecular docking was utilized to calculate the estimated free energy of binding and to structurally visualize their interactions. MTT assay and immunoblotting were used to assess whether human serum albumin (HSA), bovine serum albumin (BSA), and bovine serum can reduce the cytotoxic activity of (20S) G-Rh2 in HepG2 cells. Results: In phage display, (20S) G-Rh2-beads and (20R) G-Rh2-beads were combined with numerous kinds of phages, and a total of 111 different human complementary DNAs (cDNA) were identified, including HSA which had the highest rate. The binding constant and number of binding site in the interaction between (20S)-Rh2 and HSA were $3.5{\times}10^5M^{-1}$ and 1, and those in the interaction between (20S) G-Rh2 and BSA were $1.4{\times}10^5M^{-1}$ and 1. The quenching mechanism is static quenching. HSA, BSA and bovine serum significantly reduced the proapoptotic effect of (20S) G-Rh2. Conclusion: HSA and BSA interact with (20S) G-Rh2. Serum inhibited the activity of (20S) G-Rh2 mainly due to the interaction between (20S) G-Rh2 and serum albumin (SA). This study proposes that HSA may enhance (20S) G-Rh2 water solubility, and thus might be used as nanoparticles in the (20S) G-Rh2 delivery process.
The humidity sensor containing ammonium salt was prepared from the copolymer of 2-methacryloxyethyl dimethyl 2-hydroxyethyl ammonium bromide (MDHAB)/MMA/DAEMA = 6/3/1. The humid membrane was fabricated on the gold/alumina electrode by dipping. The impedances were $298k{\Omega},\;11k{\Omega}$, and $2.3k{\Omega}$ at 40%RH, 70%RH and 90%RH, respectively, at $5^{\circ}C$ and the humidity-sensitive characteristics were suitable for low temperature humidity sensor. The temperature-dependent coefficient between $5^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ was found to be $-0.80%RH/^{\circ}C$ and the hysteresis falled in the ${\pm}2%RH$ range. The response time was found to be 38 sec for the relative humidity ranging from 34%RH to 88%RH at $20^{\circ}C$. The reliabilities such as temperature cycle, humidity cycle, high temperature and humidity resistance, electrical load stability, stability of long-term storage and water durability were measured and evaluated for the application as a humidity sensor.
The study examined the relationship between the compressed breast thickness and Average Glandular Dose (AGD) among 1,969 outpatients who went through breast X-ray in a university hospital for 10 months from July 1st, 2007 to April 30th, 2008. Then it analyzed the result acquired from 3,900 cases of Cranio-Caudal (CC) view, especially, when the breasts were compressed (13-15daN). The following is the conclusion driven from the relationship analysis. 1. The subjects aged in 40s and 50s were 2,679 out of 3,900 cases and this figure was 68.69% in all. 2. In terms of distribution depending on focus/filter, 41.0% was Mo/Mo, 34.8% was Mo/Rh, and 24.2% was Rh/Rh. 3. In terms of compressed breast thickness depending on focus/filter, the average thickness was 26.91 mm at Mo/Mo, 38.84 mm at Mo/Rh, and 48.80 mm at Rh/Rh. The average thickness of the entire cases was shown to be 36.27 mm. 4. AGD depending on focus/filter was 1.27 mGy at Mo/Mo, 1.55 mGy at Mo/Rh, and 1.42 mGy at Rh/Rh. The average glandular dose of the entire cases was shown to be 1.43 mGy. 5. The relationship of AGD depending on compressed breast thickness at Mo/Mo was y=0.0318x + 0.470 while it was y=0.0206x + 0.709 at Mo/Rh and y=0.0248x + 0.335 at Mo/Rh. It was highly influenced by the compressed breast thickness, however, more variation was detected at Mo/Mo depending on breast thickness.
The effect of GnRH alone and concomitant with PMSG on the prevention of implantation. termination of pregnancy, and concentration of plasma progesterone were studied in pregnant rats. GnRH 50, 100 or 200 ug alone and concomitant with PMSG 25 or 50 IU were administered once on day 2 or 9 of gestation, respectively. Rats were autopsied on days 7 or 20. Administration of GnRH on day 2 did not result in the prevention of implantation and termination of pregnancy but resulted in termination of pregnancy administering on day 9. Administration of GnRM concomitant with PMSG on day 2 or 9 resulted in prevention of implantation and termination of pregnancy, but injection of GnRH 50 ug concomitant with PMSG 25 IU on day 9 had only one live fetus. Administration of GnRH alone and concomitant with PMSG on day 2 had no effect on the concentration of plasma progesterone determining on day 7. Administration of GnRH concomitant with PMSG on day 2 resulted in decrease of progesterone level determining on day 20 but GnRH alone was normal level. Administration of GnRH alone and concomitant with PMSG on day 9 resulted in decrease of the concentration of progesterone but was normal concentration administering GnRH 50 ug concomitant with PMSG 25 IU.

Background: Ginsenosides, the major ingredients of Panax ginseng, have been studied for many decades in Asian countries as a result of their wide range of pharmacological properties. The less polar ginsenosides, with one or two sugar residues, are not present in nature and are produced during manufacturing processes by methods such as heating, steaming, acid hydrolysis, and enzyme reactions. $^1H$-NMR and $^{13}C$-NMR spectroscopic data for the identification of the less polar ginsenosides are often unavailable or incomplete. Methods: We isolated 21 compounds, including 10 pairs of 20(S) and 20(R) less polar ginsenosides (1-20), and an oleanane-type triterpene (21) from a processed ginseng preparation and obtained complete $^1H$-NMR and $^{13}C$-NMR spectroscopic data for the following compounds, referred to as compounds 1-21 for rapid identification: 20(S)-ginsenosides Rh2 (1), 20(R)-Rh2 (2), 20(S)-Rg3 (3), 20(R)-Rg3 (4), 6'-O-acetyl-20(S)-Rh2 [20(S)-AcetylRh2] (5), 20(R)-AcetylRh2 (6), 25-hydroxy-20(S)-Rh2 (7), 25-hydroxy-20(S)-Rh2 (8), 20(S)-Rh1 (9), 20(R)-Rh1 (10), 20(S)-Rg2 (11), 20(R)-Rg2 (12), 25-hydroxy-20(S)-Rh1 (13), 25-hydroxy-20(R)-Rh1 (14), 20(S)-AcetylRg2 (15), 20(R)-AcetylRg2 (16), Rh4 (17), Rg5 (18), Rk1 (19), 25-hydroxy-Rh4 (20), and oleanolic acid 28-O-b-D-glucopyranoside (21).
Reaction between the $N_2O_2-type$ tetradentate ligand, ethylenediamine-N,N'-di-S-${\alpha}$-isobutylacetic acid (SS-emiba) and $RhCl_3{\cdot}3H_2O$ has yielded ${\Delta}-s-cis-\;and\;{\wedge}-uns-cis-[Rh(SS-eniba)Cl_2]-$. ${\Delta}-s-cis-[Rh(SS-eniba)Cl_2]^-$ has been utilized to react with S-methyl-L-cystcine(Smc) to give ${\Delta}-s-cis-[Rh(SS-eniba(Smc)]^+$. The oxidation of ${\Delta}-s-cis-[Rh(SS-eniba(Smc)]^+$ using $H_2O_2$ has produced ${\Delta}-s-cis-[Rh(SS-eniba)(Smc-o)]^+$, in which the coordinated sulfur has been converted into the sulfoxide group. In a separate series of experiments the S-methyl-L-cysteine is oxidized by $H_2O_2$ to give S-methyl-L-cysteine sulfoxide, which is then coordinated to ${\Delta}-s-cis-[Rh(SS-eniba)Cl2]^-$ to make the standard complet of ${\Delta}-s-cis-[Rh(SS-eniba)(Sme-o)]+$ for comparison with the complex obtained from the oxidation of ${\Delta}-s-cis-[Rh(SS-eniba)(Smc)]^+\;by\;H_2O_2.$
