  • A vibration isolation system fur a large reverberation chamber (1,228㎥, 1,000ton) has been installed. The reverberation chamber generates loud noise and induces high level of vibration to perform spacecraft acoustic environmental tests. The isolation system prevents vibration transfer from the chamber to enclosure buildings. This paper describes logical design process and commissioning experiments of the system. Design criteria have been induced from rigid body model of the chamber. Finite element model has been employed to select the characteristics of rubber pads. A total of 21 rubber pads have been installed between the chamber and supporting pedestals. A sand bag of 800kg was dropped on the chamber floor to measure the natural frequency of the isolation system. Absolute transmissibility has been measured while generating 145㏈ in the chamber. The natural frequency of the chamber is 10.5㎐, which is 80% of estimated value. Overall transmissibility at working frequency range (25㎐-10,000㎐) is less than -6㏈.

  • In a shallow water waveguide, reverberation signals and their Doppler effects form the primary limitation on sonar system performance. Therefore, in the reverberation-limited environment, it is necessary to estimate the reverberation level to be encountered under the conditions in which the sonar system is operated. In this paper, high-frequency reverberation model capable of simulating the reverberation signals received by a high-speed moving source in a range independent waveguide is suggested. In this model, eigenray information from the source to each boundary is calculated using the ray-based approach and the optimizing method for the launch angles. And the source receiving position changed by the moving source is found by a scattering path-finding algorithm, which considers the speed and direction of source and sound speed to find the path of source movement. The scattering effects from sea surface and bottom boundaries are considered by APL-UW scattering models. The model suggested in this paper is verified by a comparison to the measurements made in August 2010. Lastly, this model reflects well statistical properties of the reverberation signals.

  • In this paper, a normal mode reverberation model for a range-independent environment of shallow water is proposed to calculate the reverberation level in the low-frequency range. Normal mode is used to calculate the acoustic energy propagating from the source to the scattering area and from the scattering area to the receiver. Each mode is decomposed into up and down going waves to consider scattering strength at the scattering area. The scattering functional form combines Lambert's law with a Gaussian-like term near the specular direction based on Kirchhoff approximation considering bottom condition. For verification of the suggested model, the result is relatively compared to several solutions of the problem XI and XV in the Reverberation Modeling Workshop I sponsored by the US Office of Naval Research.

  • In this paper, the incoherent reverberation model based on coupled normal mode method is presented. In the range dependent environment, one way coupled normal mode method is used to calculate the pressure from a source to a scatterer patch and the pressure from a scatterer patch to a receiver. For the computational efficiency, the sound propagation from a source/receiver to the scatterer patch is assumed to occur only in the 2D plane where a source/receiver and scatterer patch are located. For the model verification, problems of the reverberation modeling workshop I and II sponsored by the US office of Naval Research are calculated and the results are compared with the incoherent reverberation model results based on the ray method.

  • Simulation of sonar reverberation time series is very useful because most acoustic models are power level models and have a difficulty when performance of hardware system is evaluated under the reverberant condition. Thus, in this paper, the simulation of reverberation time series is attempted, First, normalized spectrum, whose bandwidth is varying in the frequency domain and which has zero-mean Gaussian distribution, is calculated at pre-selected receiving time. Second, reverberation levels given by underwater acoustic model are combined with normalized spectrum in the frequency domain. Finally, nonstationary sonar reverberation time series are simulated by IFT(Inverse Fourier Transform).

  • To detect targets with active sonar system in the underwater environments, the targets are localized by receiving the echoes of the transmitted sounds reflected from the targets. In this case, reverberation from the scatterers is also generated, which prevents detection of the target echo. To detect the target effectively, reverberation suppression techniques such as pre-whitening based on autoregressive model and principal component inversion have been studied, and recently a Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF)-based technique has been also devised. The NMF-based reverberation suppression technique shows improved performance compared to the conventional methods, but the geometry of the transducer and receiver and attenuation by distance have not been considered. In this paper, the performance is improved through preprocessing such as the directionality of the receiver, Doppler related thereto, and attenuation for distance, in the case of using a continuous wave with a bistatic sonar. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed system, simulation with a reverberation model was performed. The results show that the detection probability performance improved by 10 % to 40 % at a low false alarm probability of 1 % relative to the conventional non-negative matrix factorization.

  • It is important to predict accurately reverberation level, which is a limiting factor in underwater target detection. Recently, the studies have been expanded from monostatic sonar to bistatic sonar in which source and receivers are separated. To simulate the bistatic reverberation level, the computation processes for propagation, scattering strength, and scattering cross section are different from those in monostatic case and more complex computation processes are required. Although there have been many researches for bistatic reverberation, few studies have assessed the bistatic scattering cross section which is a key factor in simulate reverberation level. In this paper, a new method to estimate the bistatic scattering cross section is suggested, which uses the area of intersection between two circles. Finally, the reverberation levels simulated with the scattering cross section estimated using the method suggested in this paper are compared with those estimated using the methods previously suggested and those measured from an acoustic measurements conducted in May 2013.

  • The purpose of this study is to figure out the relationship between the mini-laboratory and the reverberation room for the domestic floor structures which are practically constructed in apartment houses. For this purpose, seven specimen which were varied in structures and thicknesses were tested in Chonnam National University reverberation room and in the artificial mini-laboratory which is the $\farc{1}{3}$ scale model of the former. From the result of this study, it was proved that there is a good correlation between the mini-laboratory and the reverberation room for the apartment floor structures as well as floorcovering PVC. The result of this study could save the labor and the time, etc.

  • In this paper, we proposes an idea for improved sound characteristic which decreasing a problem in previous reverberation algorism structure. To later reflection sound, proposed new reverberation structure, using a lopped and nested all-pass delay line, and it is designed to improve an natural concert hall sound. In addition, In order to have best imaginary sound effect, we extracted the factors by controlling each delay line's delay time, and we realized a proposed new algorithm by using general-purpose DSP. Through several experimental cases, we observed better effect on improvement of linear flatten and reverberation density and decreasing about colorlessness and non-linear sound at previous proposed model about impulse input.

  • The Sabine's formula has been widlely used for calculating reverberation time and applied for actual systems. The result of Sabine's method is only same as the reverberation time of one axial wave according to the wave theory. Reverberation time is mainly dependent on the standing waves. In case of the rectangular room the frequencies of three mode covering 250Hz and several intensities at various positions of the room were measures by a spectrograph. It wart found that axial wavers and tangential waves decayed more slowly than oblique waves. The experimental results showed that the amount of axial and tangential wave in a frequency band varies depending on the position in the room. It is concluded that the results give to control reverberation times in a room.
